The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases
Chapter 96 - 93: Jealousy

Chapter 96: Chapter 93: Jealousy

Just as Hiatt had predicted and feared, they had barely charged out of the street-turned-inferno with all their might when the wind began to blow throughout the entire Drow district anchored by the tavern. This was an extremely rare occurrence in the relatively enclosed underground Gloomy Region. And once the wind started, it rapidly escalated from a breeze, skipping the stages of strong wind and gale.

The twelve Shadow Dancers, saved from severe burns or even death by the activation of their [Elemental Defense Shields], were barely back on their feet from the ruins when they were met with a terrible vortex akin to a category nineteen super hurricane. The dreadful hurricane, with speeds over a hundred meters per second, carried flames and swept everything along with it.

The incredulous Shadow Dancer Captain raised her head. She saw a dome dyed red by flames and the Crimson Dragon, its Abyssal Maw gaping open, drawing in the sea of fire and everything else. At first, the wind brushed past cheeks as usual, but in an instant, it grew fervent, like a monster with countless invisible tentacles, continuously tearing at clothes and hair. She wanted to warn her subordinates, but the rapidly increasing wind speed made it impossible for her to open her mouth, let alone make any sound. Just as she was losing control and about to be whisked into the air by the raging wind, all she could do was forcefully stab her twin daggers into the ground, trying her best to maintain balance and resist the ravaging gale.

However, the wind’s power instantly escalated to an insane level without warning. All objects around seemed to become weightless. All she could see was everything heading towards the origin of the whirlwind: the Red Dragon. With its wings, arms, and a gaping maw spread wide, it scorned all as they flew towards it. Tempting flames, collapsing rubble, and Drow with expressions of despair danced in the air.

Is this really the ability and destructive power a young Red Dragon can control? Just the might of that previous Dragon Breath might have exceeded that of an adolescent dragon. She even began to doubt whether it was actually an adolescent Red Dragon in disguise, one that specifically came to fish in their Spider Nest City. But wasn’t that something Gold Dragons loved to do?

Yet, the ability displayed now, as if drawing all things and devouring everything, was completely beyond her understanding. Even more incomprehensible was the situation. A task that was supposed to be as easy as securing a young Red Dragon had turned into a hellish battlefield in the blink of an eye, a place where they danced on Death’s knife-edge!

Still baffled, she was suddenly yanked upward and diagonally by a further surge of force. Her twin blades carved two fiery furrows in the continually peeling street. Despite this, she was still forcibly dragged by that incomprehensible power, as if being torn from reality and pulled into another world. Her head spun, and the wind screaming around was unbearably shrill, roaring like a wild beast. The Drow felt as if she were a piece of unattached paper, tumbling through the air. The sky was filled with dust and debris that abrasively grazed her skin. Breathing was a struggle, and with each moment, it felt as though her body were being ripped apart. It was as if the ground had disappeared from under her feet, leaving her alone with the mad hurricane, dancing alone in this boundless void. All she could do was to struggle futilely like all the other ordinary Drow, unable to resist, unable to fight back.

Just as she was about to give in to despair, thinking she would be devoured by the raging Red Dragon along with the flames and dust dancing in the wind...

"BURP~~~~~~" David, the Red Dragon at the eye of the storm, seemed to have finally eaten his fill and let out a loud belch.

Then the Shadow Dancer Captain and all the other survivors, as if reminded by gravity itself, plummeted towards the ravaged ground in unison. But before this group of unlucky souls could touch down, the survivors, including her, were horrified to see the Red Dragon open its massive maw once more, preparing for another breath.

"Again?!!" The majority of the Shadow Dancers and a few Drow that hadn’t been devoured felt like they were losing their minds.

But it was unclear whether it was a stroke of luck or misfortune. This time, David’s vocalization wasn’t the ’roar’ that had scorched the city, but rather a deep:

"YUEEEEE!!!"

Instantly, aside from the terrible flames, the rubble, debris, and even the Drow’s crushed and distorted bodies previously devoured by David’s [Gluttony] were regurgitated like a deluge. About to be drowned face-first by this ’residue stream,’ the Shadow Dancers, led by their Captain, could only use [Shadow Instant Step] to dive into the shadows and shift away to evade the catastrophe.

To their collective relief, the Red Dragon, now stuffed to the brim, thankfully did not perform another terrible suction like before. Otherwise, at this distance, even if they had drained all their magic power using [Shadow Instant Step], they couldn’t have escaped their fate of being devoured.

But they failed to notice that as they all shrank into the shadows to avoid that lethal ’ruminating breath,’ David, who had witnessed the entire scene, narrowed his eyes into vertical slits, exuding a faint glow.

That look was called: [Jealousy].

Such a handy ability! Why can’t I have it too?

The Shadow Dancers were preparing to widen the gap for long-range containment. They were waiting for support from Spider Nest City, which was already stunned by the sudden change of events. Just then, they heard David’s irritated and [Wrath]-filled murmur, as if chanting:

"Stupid Bones!

"All a bunch of stupid bones!

"I’m going to smash you all,"

"into,"

"glass, shards!!!"

As the Red Dragon gathered its wings and thunderously landed on the devastated, twisted streets, under the astonished gaze of all Drow present: David’s claws, wings, and even tail—as they pulled free from the shattered ground—simultaneously extracted five greatswords, each over three meters long, from the earth.

[Authority—Arrogance]

Although past events, and even the Authority of [Wrath], had already proven its characteristics through [Arrogance] as part of the Draconic Heritage: the angrier he became, the stronger he grew! Through the previous release and accumulation of rage, in just a short time, he was now capable of pinning a regular juvenile Red Dragon to the ground and grinding it with mere brute strength. As long as he didn’t vent this power of [Wrath] again through his Authority and continued to accumulate it, it was only a matter of time. He would eventually relive the scene where he chased Nifadora, the young Green Dragon, brandishing a greatsword.

If the Drow failed to realize this immediately, and if no one capable of instantly killing him emerged, then his potential combat and destructive power upon ascending to an adult Red Dragon... remained unknown.

But the problem was, he, furious as he was at this moment, didn’t want to wait even for a moment. Right here and now, all he wanted was...

blaze, fire, scorch, city!

To slaughter all these disgusting, dark-skinned, long-eared freaks!!!

Therefore, amidst the vigilant attention of the surrounding Drow, this Red Dragon, armed with five greatswords extending from its claws, wings, and tail, was poised like a great cat fixated on its prey—

It frantically twisted its enormous, plump rear end!

Then, it pushed off the ground.

And lunged.

"Damn it! He’s targeting me!"

The Shadow Dancer Captain, after witnessing the two horrific draconic calamities, suddenly saw this Red Dragon. It had forsaken flying and was now, armed with five greatswords like a terrestrial spider, charging at her with a series of rapid steps. She almost wet herself with fear on the spot and didn’t dare confront the Red Dragon head-on. Driven by a Drow’s instincts, she started to flee in panic.

But just like a human could never outrun a leopard on the plains, a Drow, even one who was a Shadow Dancer, was soon caught up to by David, who now, as a Red Dragon, almost seemed to have seven legs.

As she saw the five greatswords swinging towards her from both sides like scythe blades, the Shadow Dancer Captain vanished into the shadows at the corner like mist.

[Shadow Instant Step]

She had just started feeling relieved at her narrow escape when a vast shadow loomed over her.

"You really dare to use the same ability in front of me a second time?

"You’re really that eager to teach me, huh?

"Hmm?"

The Drow looked up in shock, only to see David squeezing his massive and brutally muscular form out of the shadows.

[Authority—Jealousy]

[Authority—Greed]

[Authority—Arrogance]

[Shadow Instant Step]!

And thus, a Red Dragon also mastered the ability to traverse through shadows.

Wielding five greatswords, he struck overhead at this Drow, the one who had acted most arrogantly before.
