Chapter 63: Chapter 62: Habit

Halfway through the flight, David, having deactivated his Astute Dragon flight mode, tossed the Red Dragon he had been clutching in his claws.

The Red Dragon, immersed in an inexplicable feeling of adoration, suddenly felt weightlessness wash over her.

Lizrite, still unable to adapt from the ’double paralysis state’, plummeted like an Abyssinian cat thrown out of an airplane. She screamed while frantically clawing at the void, ultimately crashing headfirst into the icy sea. The impact extinguished the flame of adoration that had yet to transform into something else within her, soaking her red dragon form to the core.

Lizrite barely managed to leap from the sea. Like a drenched chicken, she frantically flapped her wings, chasing after David. Just as she was about to angrily question him, she saw David’s face filled with deep contemplation and immediately lost her fire.

After struggling to find words for a good while, the clueless dragon tried her best to soften her tone, mimicking the gentleness of a Silver Dragon, and cautiously asked the ’unhappy’ David,

"Why did you suddenly retreat? You were about to defeat that Green Dragon just now."

"You don’t know shit!"

David angrily retorted at the clueless Red Dragon, took a deep breath, and gritted his teeth. "I’ve played almost all my cards, but I’m sure she still has some aces up her sleeve. If we don’t retreat under these circumstances, do you want to wait until next year to drink from my skull?"

As a Red Dragon, he enjoyed seeking thrills, but he still mostly knew the difference between recklessly courting disaster and actively seeking death.

What David left unsaid was that the female dragon had definitely been holding back at the start.

It wasn’t until he relentlessly threw his Authority at her, round after round, that he gradually forced her to reveal her true capabilities.

Following that last exchange,

If he hadn’t kept his Eye of Greed active, allowing him to foresee that potentially fatal tail sweep a split-second in advance,

His head would probably have tumbled into the ravine along with the mountaintop.

By now, I’d likely be down in the river, playing ’kissy-face’ with the fish.

Most importantly, he still couldn’t figure out the purpose of her actions.

Where had she stationed her retainers?

And when was she planning to bring them out?

To be the final straw that broke the great dragon’s back.

"I..."

Lizrite, somewhat dumbfounded, was left speechless by the rebuke, then foolishly asked the question she should have avoided:

"Was that Green Dragon really that strong?"

From her perspective, aside from that final, seemingly dangerous diagonal tail sweep, David had basically been dominating the Green Dragon throughout the entire fight.

David let out a cold laugh, glanced at her, and said,

"She alone could take on at least ten of you."

Lizrite opened her mouth to argue, but David continued the assault:

"Ten of you, all at the same young adult stage."

"Me!" Lizrite immediately refused to accept this.

"It’s not just about strength. With your brains, you couldn’t outsmart her. Don’t even think about it."

"..." Lizrite, realizing she hadn’t even been able to help before she’d been ’insta-killed’ by a chokehold from the Green Dragon, who had somehow gotten behind her without her noticing, could no longer utter any words of bravado.

As Lizrite felt a sense of despair, she heard David sigh.

"Damn it, that was definitely no ordinary young Green Dragon. The sheer volume of spells she’s learned through her ’Magic Addiction’ already rivals that of a learned, mid-tier Spellcaster, and what’s more, she can execute those incredibly bizarre combination attacks. We absolutely can’t provoke her again without absolute certainty of victory."

Hearing these words, Lizrite, for some reason, felt a sense of relief.

That someone as powerful as David is treating the situation with such caution only means that it wasn’t because I, Lizrite, was too weak, but because the other party was too strong and too cunning. Dealing with two young red dragons like us, and she still resorted to so much scheming... She really wasn’t easy to handle. Hopefully, that Green Dragon isn’t too vengeful... Otherwise, being targeted by such a Green Dragon, the days to come might truly be challenging for us. Unless we stay in Lady Pafila’s territory forever, not venturing out until we reach young adulthood.

"This is a lesson!" David took a deep breath and said.

"Huh?" Lizrite was a bit dazed.

She thought to herself, Since when did you, as a Red Dragon, actually learn from experience?! If that’s the case, the Chromatic Dragon Queen must have truly lost her mind and started handing out stock dividends in Barto Hell to her followers!

"Next time you see me getting so carried away that I’m about to do something foolish, remember to stop me..."

Lizrite was just about to happily agree when she saw David scratch his head with his hind paw and continue,

"Ah, forget it. I almost forgot you’re a Red Dragon too, so I won’t make things difficult for you. When I really get carried away, you wouldn’t be able to stop me anyway. I’d better go find my sister."

"..." Lizrite thought, What kind of brutal honesty are you spouting? When the time really came, I, as a Red Dragon, would most likely lose my temper and charge in right alongside David.

Next, Lizrite, led by David, went to the now unguarded Katjana Valley for an all-you-can-eat beef feast.

After filling their bellies, the two dragons returned to their domain on the morning of the third day.

But no sooner had they landed than David saw an unexpected visitor.

"Hiatt? How come you’re back already?"

The Drow, Hiatt, hadn’t even seemed to figure out how to phrase an answer to this complex question when the Drow Mage beside her excitedly replied,

"Boss, she came back riding a dragon!"

Ah? She came back riding Mofei?

Just as David thought that, he heard the Drow Mage continue with a big smile,

"She’s so amazing! Hiatt captured a dragon for you, Boss!"

"No! You, shut up! It was me riding Mofei, chasing her all the way here!" Hiatt blurted out, desperately wanting to stab this idiot on the spot.

"What the hell?"

Only then did David notice that the Drow’s face was inexplicably pale, and she was clutching the end of that Chain of Heavenly Law.

His heart sank in an instant.

His gaze immediately followed the thick iron chain to a large cage. The end of the chain was firmly locked around the neck of a Green Dragon.

As the Green Dragon saw him look over, she immediately gave him the same bright and elegant smile as when he first saw her. Then, like a docile, oversized kitten, she gathered her claws, prostrated herself on the ground, rolled over to expose her pale white dragon belly to him, and said gracefully,

"Respected Prince David Uthos, you defeated me in yesterday’s challenge, and your subordinate Hiatt has brought me back to your camp as a captive."

"From today on,"

"I, Negulrelia Nifadora Vereesa Aleshandra,"

"Am your captive."

"Please, look upon us as fellow Chromatic Dragons, and have mercy on me."

"..." David’s vision blackened for a moment as he nearly spat out a mouthful of blood. Then he turned his furious gaze to the Drow, who, at some point, finding herself unable to offer any defense, had prostrated herself completely, awaiting his judgment, and roared,

"Damn you!!!"

What in the world was she thinking, bringing this creature back to camp? Even though I knew Hiatt’s character wouldn’t allow her to act against my will and make such a brash, unauthorized decision, for something this huge! Couldn’t she have given me a heads-up through the Soul Prism so I could prepare?

But then his expression froze. Wait, I suddenly remembered... I’d found her constant, often unnecessary, reports and requests for instructions incredibly annoying. With the battle over, while I was with Lizrite in the Katjana Valley, full and ready for a nap, I had, just as I would have in my past life, switched my Soul Prism (smartphone) to Do Not Disturb mode.

Thinking this, David took out the Soul Prism and, sure enough, saw hundreds of urgent ’messages’ from the Drow.

He took a deep breath.

Fuck!
