Chapter 99: Chapter 97: Slaughtering Pig Dish
After bidding farewell to her second cousin, Lu Jingqiu went to her aunt’s house and helped with tidying up a few things.
Actually, there wasn’t much to tidy up; they had already sent the newlyweds’ cotton quilt over there a while ago.
She brought more money with her so that the young couple could buy more items once she got there.
Her older cousin and his wife were both military personnel; after they got their marriage certificate, their units assigned them a small room.
That night, the aunt had wanted to discuss some matters with the second cousin, but he didn’t come home until late, which really infuriated her.
Lu Jingqiu could only comfort her on the side, her mind also filled with worry for her second cousin, afraid that something might go wrong.
It wasn’t until the next day that she saw her second cousin return nonchalantly and helped her send her uncle and aunt off on the train.
Once the train had gone far, Lu Jingqiu finally spoke up, "Second cousin, how was it yesterday?"
When it came to the goods, Yang Mingchao became somewhat spirited, "It’s all good stuff, that kid procured some really fine goods that can fetch a good price."
"That’s good then."
"I’ve kept a portion of pig’s blood for you, and also got you some pig offal, as well as two pig’s feet. It’s all covered with a basin in my courtyard. You better hurry home and deal with it, I have to go."
"Alright."
After parting with her second cousin, Lu Jingqiu headed straight home to see the basin full of goodies, which made her heart bloom with joy.
"We can have a pork feast."
Lu Jingqiu was busying herself with cooking delicious food at home.
Meanwhile, Xue Jianian was happily counting money at his home.
Xia Lin, on the other hand, had secretly purchased a train ticket to Yangcheng City.
Lu Jingqiu stuffed the pig’s blood into the large intestine to make blood sausage.
She then singed the pig’s feet with fire.
Without any cabbage, she couldn’t make the traditional pork dish.
So she fried the blood sausage and, around noon, she called her father.
Before Lu Jingqiu could ask him to invite Jiang Nanzhou over, Father Lu said to prepare several more dishes because they were having many guests today.
Lu Jingqiu thought it over and stewed the pig’s feet with soybeans. She stir-fried some large intestines, green beans, and also cooked some vegetables.
When Father Lu arrived with the guests, she realized they were all acquaintances.
"Shen Mu, you’re here too."
"Comrade Lih, long time no see."
"Indeed, I just got back. Wow, what did Comrade Jingqiu make? It smells so good."
Lu Jingqiu smiled, "You’re all in for a treat today," she said and hurried them inside.
Shen Mu followed Jiang Nanzhou, walking behind and said to Lu Jingqiu, "Comrade Jingqiu, we’ve intruded today. This is Comrade Wang Xiuya."
Lu Jingqiu was aware and smiled at Wang Xiuya, "Please come in quickly, welcome to our home as a guest."
Wang Xiuya felt a bit embarrassed and said, "Sorry for disturbing you today."
Wang Xiuya had been touring Capital City with Shen Mu for the past couple of days, and now she was here with him to let Jiang Nanzhou know they were returning earlier than planned.
Lu Jingqiu didn’t harbor much animosity towards Wang Xiuya because she knew that in the previous life, Wang Xiuya was Shen Mu’s wife, and they had a very loving marriage with a son and a daughter.
Jiang Nanzhou mentioned that Shen Mu had been accompanying Wang Xiuya these past few days.
Lu Xianrun entered the room and busily greeted everyone to sit down.
Lu Jingqiu had already set the table with all the dishes, only the pig’s feet soup remained, which she brought to the table when they arrived.
Jiang Nanzhou, seeing the pig’s blood and pig’s feet on the table, thought she had gone to the Black Market and whispered to her while serving the food, "Didn’t I tell you not to go to the Black Market? Why did you go again?"
Lu Jingqiu responded, "I didn’t go; these were gotten by my second cousin."
Jiang Nanzhou didn’t believe it and said, "Really?"
"Yeah, I still went, and I would definitely buy some seafood."
As Lu Jingqiu spoke, her eyes looked towards Jiang Nanzhou with a touch of coquettishness, causing him to feel a bit uncomfortable.
Just at that moment, Shen Mu came over with Wang Xiuya, offering to help the two of them serve the food, which was when Jiang Nanzhou quickly left the kitchen.
Lih Huakun, who was speaking with Lu Xianrun, found Jiang Nanzhou’s almost burning red ears quite amusing.
His gaze towards him carried a bit of tease.
Today, when Lu Xianrun received a call from his daughter, he knew there was good food at home; Lih Huakun happened to be beside him, so he asked her to cook a bit more.
It was unexpected that Shen Mu was also there, but since he was not busy at noon, he came back with her.
Looking at the sumptuous dishes on the table, as well as the big bowl of white rice, Lu Xianrun also felt delighted.
Their family didn’t eat fine grains every day, but when entertaining guests, his wife and daughter were never stingy.
"Come on, we still have to work in the afternoon, so let’s toast with tea instead of wine. This tea was brought back by Huakun, and everyone should try it today."
Chopsticks began moving, and Lu Xianrun started chatting with Jiang Nanzhou and the others.
Lu Jingqiu whispered to Wang Xiuya beside her, "Comrade Xiuya, don’t be shy at my place; try my cooking."
Wang Xiuya looked at the white rice and the pig trotters; she didn’t need to taste them to know they were delicious: "Comrade Jingqiu, Brother Zhou is really lucky to have found you. Ah, don’t get me wrong, Brother Zhou and I don’t actually have anything between us. It’s all Aunt Yang, anxious that Brother Zhou is of such an age and still without a partner. Parents tend to worry about their children’s affairs."
Lu Jingqiu smiled with pursed lips: "I know."
Wang Xiuya said, "How many days will you and Brother Zhou stay there when you go this time?"
"I have plenty of time; it just depends on how much leave Nanzhou has."
Wang Xiuya smiled and said, "Remember to come find me when you get there. If Brother Zhou doesn’t have time, I can show you around. I’m an elementary school teacher, and I’m on vacation these two months, so I have quite a bit of free time."
"Sure."
Just as they finished chatting, Shen Mu added from the side, "Jingqiu, we are going back tomorrow. When are you and my brother planning to leave?"
"We’re leaving the day after tomorrow, heading to Yangjiang first, then to Capital City."
"Okay, we’ll see you in Capital City then."
Wang Xiuya left a good impression on Lu Jingqiu, as a cheerful and simple girl.
She never thought she would get to know Wang Xiuya in this life; in her previous life, although Shen Mu often came to see Gao Shu, he rarely brought his wife along.
Even when she did come, she would only greet Lu Jingqiu politely without much interaction.
Everyone enjoyed this meal very much.
Especially Lih Huakun, who found it eye-opening to see Jiang Nanzhou occasionally putting food into Lu Jingqiu’s bowl.
His childhood friend, whom he had grown up with, had such a tender side to him, something rare and precious.
It seemed that those soldiers didn’t understand Jiang Nanzhou well; even he had gained a new understanding of Jiang Nanzhou.
This guy really kept it hidden deep.
Lu Jingqiu saw Jiang Nanzhou piling meat into her bowl and felt rather embarrassed.
She tilted her head and whispered as a reminder, "I don’t eat much; don’t keep putting food in my bowl."
Jiang Nanzhou didn’t mind and said, "If you can’t finish it, I’ll eat it later."
Her embarrassment made her dare not lift her head to meet anyone else’s gaze.
The key was that her father was still there.
After the meal, they followed Father Lu back to the military quarters, and Jiang Nanzhou took Shen Mu to buy tickets, without having much of a chance to speak with Lu Jingqiu.
After all, his leave would commence in another two days.
