Chapter 304: Chapter 295: She’s Pregnant
After making a round inside the house, it was a rectangular shape, quite spacious too, able to fit two tables side by side with room to spare.
Lu Jingqiu had previously designed two-story storefront buildings by herself and had experience. Xue Jianian looked at Lu Jingqiu and said, "Do you have any suggestions?"
Lu Jingqiu walked further in and checked the position of the pipes, "The kitchen goes here, with two big pots, the pipes, and a place to wash dishes. Then at about one and a half meters’ height, we can have a large window installed, with a small platform in front where we can serve food. Customers can pick it up directly from outside."
Luo Xinyue asked, "Then what about purchasing meals? Where should the front desk be placed?"
"By the side of the entrance, they first buy tickets, then go inside with the tickets to get soup."
Xue Jianian nodded and said, "That’s right, this way there won’t be any unpaid orders, and it’s convenient too."
Luo Xinyue said, "Then let’s do it this way. We can start looking for someone to do the renovations tomorrow. I don’t think we need to touch the floor, the floorboards are already in place. We just need to install the plumbing and electrical and build the platform."
Xue Jianian said, "Jingqiu, let’s use the same uncle who did the renovations for us before. Can you draw up a plan today?"
"I can, but I need to come here again this afternoon to measure the dimensions."
Xue Jianian replied, "I’ll come with you."
After setting things up, everyone went back to the school.
In the afternoon, Lu Jingqiu borrowed a ruler from Professor Shi and met up with Xue Jianian at the store.
Luo Xinyue went back home first.
The two measured the dimensions of the store, then headed home. The round trip took them just over an hour.
By the time they got home, Jiang Nanzhou had already returned, looking cold and somewhat angry. Lu Jingqiu stared blankly for a moment, remembering that he had been fine when she left in the morning: "What’s wrong, husband?"
Jiang Nanzhou glanced at his watch and said coldly, "Look at the time, you’re only just getting back now."
"Niannian and I went to look at the storefront. Are you angry about that?"
Just as she was about to approach and explain further, Jiang Nanzhou stood up and pulled her along, "It’s too late now. The hospital has closed." There was a hint of grievance in his tone.
Lu Jingqiu suddenly realized and laughed, "You wanted to take me to see a doctor."
Jiang Nanzhou gave her a helpless look, sighed and said, "If there’s something wrong with your health, you should see a doctor in time. Don’t let it drag on; delayed issues often turn into serious illnesses. No matter how much money we earn, it’s useless without good health."
Lu Jingqiu found his point valid and nodded in agreement, but then curiously said, "You sound like an old man when you say such profound truths."
Jiang Nanzhou couldn’t control his expression upon hearing this and laughed, the sternness disappearing, "You’re right; these are all Grandpa’s words."
"Ah... oh. Grandpa’s words are very sensible."
"Let’s go to the hospital and get it checked out," he said.
"Okay."
Her husband was worried about her health, coming back early specifically to take her to the doctor, and she’d ended up returning so late, which indeed wasn’t right.
She obediently followed her husband to the hospital.
They didn’t go to the Military District Hospital but chose the closer People’s Hospital instead. By the time they arrived, most doctors had already finished their shifts, and just as they were about to register for emergency treatment, Lu Jingqiu spotted Aunt Wei.
"Aunt Wei, Tongzhang."
"Sister Xiao Qiu, brother-in-law."
"Jingqiu, what brings you two to the hospital? Is someone sick?"
"Aunt Wei, it’s Jingqiu. She has been feeling unwell in the stomach and feels like vomiting frequently these past couple of days."
"Vomiting? It couldn’t be pregnancy, could it?" Doctor Wei, being a senior gynecologist, had pregnancy as her first thought.
The couple was stunned by her words, as they had never considered that possibility.
Seeing their expressions, Wei Guixiang knew right away, "You folks are too careless. This is what happens when elders aren’t around. Jingqiu, how many days has it been since your last period?"
As soon as she asked, Lu Jingqiu’s face turned red. It wasn’t too embarrassing with her husband around, but He Tongzhang being there made her feel shy.
Wei Guixiang saw her blushing and turned to glare at her son, "Hurry home."
He Tongzhang quickly shook his head, "Mom, I’ll stay with you, and besides, I rarely get to see Sister Xiao Qiu. I have something to talk to her about."
"If you need to talk, do it another day. Your sister Xiao Qiu is sick."
Lu Jingqiu looked at He Tongzhang, "What did you want to talk to me about, Tongzhang?"
Wei Guixiang said, "He’s got nothing important to say, prattles on about some medicine, to treat cats. Asked me to get some stomach medication for him. Why couldn’t he study something useful, insists on being a vet, ah, my reputation is completely tarnished by him."
"What’s wrong with being a vet? A vet is also a doctor, and yet you’re a doctor too, you..."
"Get out of here," she cut him off.
Before he could finish his response, he swiftly dodged a slap from Aunt Wei. Recognizing the cue, He Tongzhang hurriedly said to Lu Jingqiu and her husband, "Brother-in-law, Sister Xiao Qiu, I’ll head off now. I wish you guys have a big healthy baby, and oh, if your Hua Hua ever shows signs of vomiting, remember to come to me, I have a way."
