Chapter 229: Chapter 221: Business
Two weeks after that matter, her uncle sent her a message, saying that Dad and Jiang Nanzhou were about to return.
Soon to come back meant that they were both doing well, and Lu Jingqiu felt somewhat excited. She took advantage of Sunday to tidy up her room thoroughly.
She also visited the new house and cleaned it up, and in the backyard, she used old bricks to neatly organize a square, a little square vegetable patch.
On one side there were three vegetable patches and on the other side was the grass she had dug up from the suburbs, the kind that doesn’t grow very tall.
The front even had the third floor terrace adorned with flowers. The freshly renewed courtyard brightened one’s mood by a great deal.
She had originally planned to invite Xue Jianian and Luo Xinyue for a meal, but it kept getting postponed until this week.
This afternoon at a little past five, she took the two of them to a restaurant owned by Wu Zhengran’s friend.
She ordered the best-tasting fish and for the rest, they’d just have whatever was available.
"Comrade Yang, these are two of my friends. What delicious food do you have? Help us stir-fry a couple of dishes."
Yang Min apologized, "Today we still have tofu, and not much meat with vegetables left, but I can stir-fry two dishes."
Lu Jingqiu said, "Are vegetables and meat still this tricky to get?"
Her comment made Yang Min open up instantly, "Hey, you still need tickets for the farmers’ market, and I don’t have that many tickets. Though you do occasionally run into farmers selling vegetables outside, it’s not much, and it’s not every day, so we sell whatever we have."
Lu Jingqiu introduced Xue Jianian to Yang Min, "My friend here has meat, chicken, duck, goose, fish, all sorts of vegetables, and he can get them for you."
Yang Min looked at Xue Jianian and said, "Really? You have fish?"
Lu Jingqiu said, "Comrade Xue Jianian, Yang Min, Jianian, you could discuss a supply arrangement."
Xue Jianian exclaimed in surprise, "Supply?" She had always sold the goods herself and had never heard of supplying.
Yang Min laughed, having thought that Xue Jianian worked at a vegetable station, and said sheepishly, "Comrade Xue, my small store doesn’t need much, just fifteen fish a day, ten pounds of pork, three chickens, two ducks, and five pounds of seasonal vegetables. Although it’s not much, I can guarantee this quantity every day."
Upon hearing that ten pounds of pork and fifteen fish were needed daily, Xue Jianian realized it wasn’t a small amount over a week and quickly nodded, "Sure, sure. Comrade Yang, we can discuss it. My prices are definitely fair."
As she said this, she pulled Yang Min outside the shop to a quieter place to negotiate business.
Luo Xinyue couldn’t hide her envy, "Ah, I get envious seeing you two constantly making money, it tempts me too."
Lu Jingqiu laughed, "Don’t be silly, the work at the cooperative isn’t about making money."
"It is about making money, but I feel like you both have your own goals, and suddenly, I feel very lost."
"What’s there to be lost about? You’re about to be a bride. Right now, what you should prepare for is to take good care of your skin and be a peaceful bride."
Luo Xinyue’s face turned a bit red with embarrassment from Lu Jingqiu’s words, "Don’t worry, I’ve started preparing everything. I heard your beau is coming back soon, so I hope our weddings won’t be scheduled too close together."
Lu Jingqiu laughed, "I don’t know yet. We’ll discuss the timing once Nanzhou is back."
Luo Xinyue asked, "How’s the storefront you’ve been working on?"
"It will be finished soon. Next week, we’ll sort out the floor and then the two-story building will be officially completed."
Luo Xinyue said, "Hey, then you can rent it out now."
"I still need to air it out for another week. I’ll start renting it in half a month. Guess if I can manage to rent it out."
Luo Xinyue said, "Of course you can. My dad said recently more and more people are doing business in West City. They’re all small traders and vendors, but for the sake of the city’s appearance and stuff, they don’t allow those vendors to roam around randomly. I guess they’ll have to plan it out."
Lu Jingqiu blinked her eyes and asked, "Are they going to target Fish Tail Alley?"
Luo Xinyue shook her head, "I don’t know about that, but currently, a street market has already formed over there, probably."
Lu Jingqiu also felt that Fish Tail Alley should be reorganized. It might not end up being perfect, but the stalls would likely be planned out.
While she was considering her own property, Xue Jianian came in excitedly after striking a deal with Yang Min, "Jingqiu, I really owe you one. Comrade Yang said his friend’s shop is also in planning and will be able to introduce me.
That way, I won’t have to set up my own stall every week and still have a steady sales channel.
It just means I’ll have to get up early every day to make deliveries."
Luo Xinyue suggested, "Niannian, you can talk to the suppliers, the old farmers, to see if they can help you with the delivery. After all, you have to go to school,"
Xue Jianian quickly shook his head and smiled sheepishly, "I can handle it myself; I plan to buy a tricycle tomorrow."
Lu Jingqiu nodded, "Right, a tricycle is more convenient. Niannian, if that’s the case, you’ll have to run down there to collect goods on Sundays and also deliver them. It’s indeed tiring.
Maybe in a month or two, you can calculate the costs to see if you can hire a helper. Have him help you with deliveries and keep in touch with customers. Nowadays, many community restaurants need meat and vegetables, not just the private ones."
Xue Jianian didn’t really need to calculate costs; hiring a helper was an option. But it felt wasteful to just have him deliver vegetables every day. An idea suddenly struck her, "Jingqiu, do you think the local markets are also unable to supply enough meat and vegetables for those restaurants?"
Lu Jingqiu nodded, "That should be the case. But nowadays, with the household responsibility system in place, many farmers raise chickens and ducks and grow various vegetables. What they can’t consume, they sell.
Restaurants also buy from them. My aunt’s restaurant used to do so frequently, and now there are no restrictions at all."
Luo Xinyue added, "Sometimes, my dad’s canteen also can’t keep up with the supply. There’s not always enough meat."
Xue Jianian asked, "What do you think about me setting up a storefront to sell grains and cooking oil?"
Luo Xinyue snorted with laughter, "That would be fine. As long as you have a good supply, opening a store is sure to be profitable. Plus, the storefront is already available; you can just rent Jingqiu’s."
Xue Jianian looked at Lu Jingqiu with a smile, "I’m renting my house from her, and I’ll have to rent my storefront from her too. I’ll never be able to escape her in this lifetime."
Lu Jingqiu shrugged her shoulders; she hadn’t anticipated that either.
Xue Jianian said, "In a while, Jincheng will also be coming back. I’ll discuss it with him then. Jingqiu, your storefront won’t be rented out that quickly, right?"
"Not sure, don’t worry, though. I still have half a month before I can rent it out."
Previously, she had invited Xue Jianian to eat as a way to introduce this business opportunity to her. She hadn’t expected it to work out so smoothly.
Yang Min’s culinary skills were indeed good. They all had a delightful meal.
After they parted ways, Lu Jingqiu didn’t get home until after seven o’clock at night.
Suddenly, she noticed the lights were on inside the house and realized something. Thrilled, she tossed her bicycle aside and bolted into the house, "Dad!"
