Chapter 163 - 160: Uncle Lu, I’m Not Drunk

Chapter 163: Chapter 160: Uncle Lu, I’m Not Drunk

Wei Jincheng and his friends arrived after eight, preceded by a military vehicle festooned with red ropes on both sides.

Four sat inside the vehicle, and another three or four followed on bicycles, all clad in green military uniforms.

"Here they come, they’re coming in a car."

Xue Jianian also curiously peered out from the window and remarked, "Why did they bring a car?"

Lu Jingqiu said, "If not in a car, then what?"

"He said he’d come to pick me up on a bicycle."

Lu Jingqiu didn’t know that it was only last night when Jiang Nanzhou went to Wei Jincheng’s place that he found out he was planning to arrive on a bicycle to fetch the bride.

It was then he remembered he needed to change out of his clothes, after all, he was to be the best man.

So he rode back to the military unit with Wei Jincheng and borrowed a vehicle.

Wei Jincheng held a low position in the army and didn’t have the audacity like Jiang Nanzhou. Being able to use a military vehicle to pick up the love of his life was all thanks to Jiang Nanzhou.

Lu Jingqiu had expected a long and drawn-out tradition of teasing the groom, but the teachers from the school were quite well-mannered and didn’t give the groom too much trouble.

When it was their turn, Wei Jincheng started sliding red packets through the door gap instead.

Both Lu Jingqiu and Luo Xinyue were sniggering with the red packets in hand. Xue Jianian thought they might open the door for them, but Luo Xinyue sobered up instantly and declared, "This little amount of money won’t buy us off; that’s not happening." Luo Xinyue then demanded that the groom sing a song.

Lu Jingqiu rolled her eyes amusedly, not knowing who almost reached to open the door just a moment ago.

In the end, Wei Jincheng and his groomsmen sang a military song.

Lu Jingqiu had him make an airborne confession to the bride.

Seeing a villain boss like him in such a situation was a pretty nice treat, haha.

They waited for a long time for something to happen outside, but instead, several red packets got stuffed through the door crack.

"Please, go easy on us. I just sang with too much passion, and my throat feels a bit sore," said the voice from outside.

Luo Xinyue couldn’t help but chortle, "What an excuse. But... Jingqiu, there’s quite a hefty sum in this round of red packets. We did take the money, after all; let’s open the door."

Lu Jingqiu, also showing her fondness for money, agreed, "Alright."

Xue Jianian, on the other hand, wasn’t too happy, "Hey, don’t. What does that mean, is it that hard for him to confess to me, does he even like me at all?"

Lu Jingqiu hurriedly reassured, "He does like you, for sure. If he didn’t, why would he marry you? Men sometimes act coy, all serious in public but spouting sweet nothings in private, more than any woman can. As for the confession, let him tell you tonight until you’re satisfied."

Luo Xinyue chimed in, "Right, make him say it tonight until you’re content, torture him a good deal with it."

Their brazen words turned Xue Jianian’s cheeks crimson.

Lu Jingqiu found a corner and signaled to Luo Xinyue.

Luo Xinyue promptly turned the lock, and the moment they barged in, she dashed to Lu Jingqiu’s side.

What followed were the bride and groom’s affairs, and they didn’t cause much commotion; then came various wedding customs. By the time the proceedings were over, it was already past nine.

Only then did they set off for the bridal chamber.

The military vehicle couldn’t accommodate all the people. The bride and groom were in the back, and Lu Jingqiu had Luo Xinyue sit in the front passenger seat.

"What about you?"

Lu Jingqiu pulled a face at her, somewhat smugly, "My partner will take me."

Having said that, she didn’t wait for Luo Xinyue to tease her and hurried off to find Jiang Nanzhou.

Jiang Nanzhou, watching her playful demeanor just now, suddenly found himself looking forward to when the two of them would get married.

To allow the relatives and friends to keep up, they drove slowly.

They arrived home around ten, where the bride and groom took their oaths amid lively festivities.

Around eleven, they all walked to the state-owned restaurant.

The restaurant wasn’t accepting outside customers today and was dedicated to serving their wedding banquet.

When they arrived, the chef was not quite ready, so Lu Jingqiu and the others had to wait for a bit before the dishes were served.

Sitting with the teachers, the two girls felt a bit shy, so Luo Xinyue followed Lu Jingqiu to her partner’s table. Although they were all men there, at least they were of similar ages.

While the men drank, the two women quietly ate their food.

"Jingqiu, Niannian really went all out with the banquet, didn’t she? There’s fish, chicken, and even braised pork knuckles. Gee, not even the meat factory director could pull off something this grand when he organizes events," remarked Luo Xinyue.

Lu Jingqiu whispered, "Have you forgotten what she does for a living?"

"Right."

"Let’s eat."

Even though Jiang Nanzhou wasn’t very familiar with the logistics department, they were all from the same military region and had bonded quite well at Wei Jincheng’s place the night before, becoming quite friendly. So they began drinking together.

Lu Jingqiu already saw him drinking two glasses and, fearing he might get drunk, reminded him quietly, "Don’t drink too much."

Jiang Nanzhou gave her a puzzled look without saying anything, a slight smile curling at the corner of his mouth as he chuckled softly.

Lu Jingqiu thought he was a lightweight and looked unsteady, so she glared at him with annoyance, "If you get drunk, I’m not taking care of you."

The banquet lasted until half-past twelve, everyone having feasted to their heart’s content.

Luo Xinyue felt like she had embarrassed her parents a bit, displaying some unladylike behavior.

Now, with a full belly, she wouldn’t have managed to walk far without Lu Jingqiu’s help.

Lu Jingqiu couldn’t say she was any better; she inwardly sighed that the chef’s skill surpassed even her aunt’s.

Tsk, truly exceptional.

It wasn’t just them who thought so; the others also kept praising continuously.

Professor Shi and Professor Shen had a particular glow on their faces as they boasted about how well their goddaughter had married and praised their own good fortune.

When Luo Xinyue walked into the alley, she saw Shang Ze coming to pick her up.

She dashed toward her lover, completely smitten, "Ah Ze."

"Is it over?"

"It’s over, oh my, I’m stuffed."

"So accomplished." Shang Ze laughed as well, sunlight casting indulgent and tender glimmers on his face.

Ah, Luo Xinyue was luckier than her; she had Shang Ze in both lives.

She turned to look at Jiang Nanzhou and quietly lifted her small hand, slipping it into his large palm.

Jiang Nanzhou saw there were many people around, but he couldn’t bear to let go of her hand. With a straight face, he walked on, subtly squeezing her hand, pinching it gently.

Luo Xinyue couldn’t just walk away rudely; she had to wait until the hosts were home before bidding farewell, taking Shang Ze to Xue Jianian’s courtyard.

They might as well soak up the wedding atmosphere while they were there.

Once in the courtyard, some school teachers started to take their leave, with the newlyweds accompanying Professor Shi and Professor Shen to see off their guests.

Only then did Luo Xinyue bid farewell to Xue Jianian, while Lu Jingqiu asked Jiang Nanzhou, "Do you have anything else to do?"

"Nothing else. I’ll just arrange the car, and then we can head out."

"Okay."

"Jingqiu, Shang Ze and I are heading off first."

"We’re leaving too, take care on the road."

Xue Jianian came over at this point and said, "Thank you both for today. Did you enjoy the food? Were you happy?"

Luo Xinyue replied, "It was more than good. Niannian, I’ll have to call on you for some goods later."

Xue Jianian responded, "Feel free, I’m usually at home in the mornings and evenings."

"Got it."

"Take it slow on the road, you two."

Jiang Nanzhou soon joined them, and after Lu Jingqiu gave her regards to the Xue Family, she followed behind to leave.

After exiting the alley, Lu Jingqiu glanced over towards Gao Shu and Xia Lin’s house; the two of them had been quiet today.

Lu Jingqiu didn’t know that Gao Shu had taken Xia Lin back to the Gao Family’s home and they were completely unaware of Xue Jianian’s wedding.

The wedding of Wei Jincheng and Xue Jianian was so low-key that even the neighbors had just noticed the red ribbons on the car and realized they were celebrating.

On the way, Lu Jingqiu found herself yearning for her and Jiang Nanzhou’s wedding, thinking about their future bliss and couldn’t help but laugh.

Jiang Nanzhou turned and asked, "What are you laughing at?"

"I’m very happy."

"Jingqiu, we’ll be getting married soon too. Aren’t you looking forward to it?"

"Looking forward to it, and you?"

Jiang Nanzhou looked into the distance and smiled; he couldn’t wait to marry her right then and there.

When Lu Jingqiu saw he had fallen silent again and smelled the alcohol on him from the breeze, she thought he was drunk.

She grew nervous on the way, afraid he would lose his balance and fall.

By the time they reached home, it was just past one in the afternoon. Everyone was likely taking a nap, as it was very quiet.

Jiang Nanzhou, who had held back his words all day, finally stopped Lu Jingqiu in the courtyard. A gentle smile played on his lips as he looked at her with tender affection in his deep eyes, "Jingqiu, you looked very beautiful today."

Before Lu Jingqiu could even become bashful, she heard a thump; Uncle Lu had kicked Jiang Nanzhou from behind, "You scoundrel, with your sweet talk, trying to trick my girl, huh?"

"Uncle Lu, I didn’t," Jiang Nanzhou hastily explained, feeling a bit wronged; he had only wanted to compliment his partner.

"Have you been drinking?"

"A little, not drunk."

"Get lost, and if you don’t, don’t even think about getting married at year’s end."

"Uncle Lu, I have something else to do; I’ll head back first. Jingqiu, I’ll come by tomorrow."

Watching Jiang Nanzhou scamper away like a rat, Lu Jingqiu pursed her lips, speechless.

Lu Xianrun saw his daughter’s expression and felt a pang in his heart. His daughter was growing up and beyond his control. If he hadn’t come back to get something, he didn’t want to think about what might have happened between them...

"Humph, next time that boy’s drunk, you keep your distance."

"Oh, Dad, I’ll listen to you." "How come you came back at this time?"

"What, can’t I come back now?"

"You can, of course you can."
