Chapter 109: Chapter 107: Palpitations

At that time, an auntie in her forties came out with a plate of watermelon, "Nanzhou, Comrade Lu, go ahead and have some to quench your thirst. This was chilled in cold water since early morning as the old master instructed, it’s really sweet."

"Thank you, Aunt Zhang," Jiang Nanzhou introduced to Lu Jingqiu, "This is Aunt Zhang, sent by the team to take care of Grandpa."

"Hello Aunt Zhang, you can call me Xiao Lu or Jingqiu."

Aunt Zhang smiled and said, "Alright, have you guys eaten? I’ll go make you a bowl of noodles to fill your stomachs a bit."

Jiang Nanzhou said, "Aunt Zhang, we’ve already eaten on the car, it’s not necessary to trouble you."

Grandpa Jiang said, "Xiao Zhang, go and buy some vegetables, it’s almost time to make dinner."

"Sure."

Grandpa Jiang asked, "Jingqiu, if there’s anything you don’t eat, just tell your Aunt Zhang."

Lu Jingqiu hurriedly waved her hands and said, "Grandpa Jiang, Aunt Zhang, I’m not picky, I can eat anything."

Grandpa Jiang laughed, "That’s good, after eating watermelon, let Nanzhou take you to the second floor to rest for a bit. Nanzhou, the room next to yours is already cleaned up by your Aunt Zhang, take Jingqiu there to rest in a while."

"Okay, Grandpa. When we were in Yangjiang, Jingqiu specifically bought some fruit from there." As he spoke, he took out a jackfruit and a bunch of longan.

Grandpa Jiang laughed heartily, "The fruit from Yangjiang, I had it a few times when I was young, not bad. Ah, this thing, it’s just too much trouble to peel."

Lu Jingqiu said, "Grandpa also likes to eat it, huh? I like it too, I’ll help peel it for you later."

Grandpa Jiang responded with a smile. Seeing Jiang Nanzhou bringing out Maotai Liquor, he was overjoyed for a while. Lu Jingqiu said, "This was prepared by my dad for you, he said you enjoy this."

Grandpa Jiang said, "Indeed." As he spoke, he quickly hid the liquor in his coat, glanced at Xiao Zhang, who had left for the kitchen to get a basket, and whispered, "Your Aunt Zhang keeps an eye on me for those medics, she mustn’t know about this."

Grandpa Jiang had forgotten about him, and Jiang Nanzhou coughed lightly on the side.

Grandpa Jiang paused, looking at the liquor in his arms somewhat reluctantly.

Lu Jingqiu laughed, "Grandpa Jiang, although the liquor is good, you shouldn’t indulge too much. You have to consider your health, right?"

"Of course, of course," Grandpa Jiang reluctantly handed the liquor to his grandson.

After eating the watermelon, Grandpa Jiang had the security officers take him out, but it was unclear what for.

Jiang Nanzhou took her upstairs. The house was much larger than their home, with four rooms on the upper floor.

The room at the far end facing the sun was Jiang Nanzhou’s, across from it was the study, and Jiang Nanzhou took her to the sunny room next to his.

The room was big, not cluttered with much—a mahogany bed, a wardrobe, and a desk.

The bed was already made, and there was a standing fan. Lu Jingqiu inwardly thought of Grandpa Jiang’s thoughtfulness.

"You must be exhausted, take a bath first, and rest a bit."

Lu Jingqiu glanced at Jiang Nanzhou and nodded, "Then I’ll go take a bath first."

Jiang Nanzhou said, "The hot water is already prepared, and the tub is clean."

Jiang Nanzhou’s attentiveness eased Lu Jingqiu’s originally tense heart quite a bit. Along the way, she truly felt his comprehensive care.

Sometimes on impulse, she felt that she could accept marrying him now, after all, such a gem of a man is hard to find.

When Lu Jingqiu came out, Jiang Nanzhou considerately did not appear outside.

In the summer heat, having sweated a lot on the journey, she almost felt moldy.

Soaking in the tub, her vitality instantly returned.

When she came out, Jiang Nanzhou had brought up another pot of hot water, "Do you need more water?"

Lu Jingqiu shook her head, "I’ve washed up."

Jiang Nanzhou looked at her sleek, black hair, dripping wet and spread out, her delicate skin like condensed milk, glowing with an enchanting luster that startled his heart, creating ripples that gently spread and refused to subside. Suppressing the turmoil within him, he hurriedly said, "You should rest first, I’ll take care of the rest."

"Okay."

Lu Jingqiu returned to her room and dried her hair until it couldn’t drip any water before lying down. She intended to lie down for just a few minutes, but before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.

By the time she woke up, it was already past four o’clock.

Downstairs, she discovered that Jiang Nanzhou had already peeled the jackfruits, Grandpa Jiang was beside him, and Aunt Zhang was busy in the kitchen.

Grandpa Jiang said, "Jingqiu is awake, did you have a good rest?"

Lu Jingqiu said, "Grandpa Jiang, the bed was very comfortable."

"That’s good."

Jiang Nanzhou said, "Come and try this, it’s not bad."

Lu Jingqiu picked up a piece and put it in her mouth, "Mm, it’s delicious." The food from this era somehow tastes richer and more flavorful than that of the future.

Jiang Nanzhou said, "If you like it, eat more. We’ve peeled such a big bag, it should last two or three days."

Grandpa Jiang also took a piece and began eating, saying, "Don’t eat too much today, Grandpa just bought a roasted duck. Save some room for that, we’ll have roasted duck."

"Roasted duck, Grandpa Jiang, you really read my mind. It’s my favorite," she exclaimed.

Listening to the young girl’s fondness made Grandpa Jiang laugh with joy, thinking to himself that he had made the right choice.

"Their roasted duck is decent, but as for the taste, it’s not as good as your grandmother’s. When she was around, she was skilled at this, and Nanzhou knows how to do it too. If you ever want to eat roasted duck in West City, just ask Nanzhou to make it for you. He learned directly from his grandmother."

Lu Jingqiu looked at Jiang Nanzhou in surprise and asked, "Really?"

Jiang Nanzhou’s eyes brimmed with a smile, "Yeah, it’s a pity ducks don’t sell well nowadays."

Lu Jingqiu’s eyes lit up, "We have ducks at home."

Jiang Nanzhou laughed, "If you’re willing, I’ll kill one and make it for you."

Lu Jingqiu quickly shook her head. Her family’s ducks were still laying eggs, two a day; how could she possibly part with them.

Today, Aunt Zhang prepared braised pork, tofu fish soup, a plate of green vegetables, a dish of scallions and eggs, and an entire roasted duck, served with steaming white rice.

It was clear just how much Grandpa Jiang valued her.

"Jingqiu, if you and Nanzhou end up together in the future, you won’t have to do anything. Nanzhou can do all these things," he said.

Lu Jingqiu said, "Grandpa Jiang, I know Nanzhou can cook."

"When did he cook for you?"

"No, he just told me about it."

"One of these days, I’ll have him cook for you. After his grandmother passed away, it was just us two men left at home. I was busy, and he had to learn everything on his own, go to school, cook, do laundry. Not to brag, but some of the female comrades might not even be as good at housework as him," Grandpa Jiang boasted.

Jiang Nanzhou’s ears reddened a bit from his grandfather’s praise.

Lu Jingqiu, however, felt a twinge of sympathy. Having lost his father at a young age and with his mother remarried, leaving him alone, he must have suffered a great deal.

The meal was rather pleasant; Aunt Zhang’s cooking was quite good, and the key was that the roasted duck was truly delicious.

After dinner, Grandpa Jiang took Jiang Nanzhou back to the study to talk. Lu Jingqiu wanted to help Aunt Zhang, but she was sent upstairs by Aunt Zhang instead.
