Chapter 105: Chapter 103: Buying Seafood
After the wedding feast ended, the two families sat together and talked for a while before saying their goodbyes one by one.
Jiang Nanzhou needed to ride in Yang Mingchao and his companion’s car to go downtown to buy train tickets.
Upon hearing this, the uncle also asked Yang Mingchao to buy them tickets for their return to West City tomorrow. Yang Mingwei wanted his parents to stay for a few more days, but he also knew they had limited vacation time.
"I want to go too." Lu Jingqiu, having nothing to do here, also wanted to follow along to see what Yangjiang City looked like now.
As soon as Meng Xintian heard that Lu Jingqiu was going downtown, she said, "Jingqiu, I’ll ride in your car. When we get to the city, let Comrade Jiang buy the tickets and I’ll show you around."
Lu Jingqiu glanced at Zhang Xinguo who was standing nearby.
Zhang Xinguo said helplessly, "Let Tiantian ride in your car; I’ll ride my bike back."
Gao Da glanced at the bicycle lane. "The bike can be put on the truck."
Yang Mingchao said to Yang Mingwei, "Big brother, if any of our relatives rode bicycles or took the bus, and if there’s no room, they can ride in our truck. There’s space in the back."
Yang Mingwei quickly asked his second uncle and third aunt’s family.
With too many people, there wasn’t enough room, so Meng Sining said, "Let the second uncle and second aunt take the kids on, and third aunt and third uncle take their kids. The rest of the brothers and cousins can ride bikes."
Everyone agreed. However, since Meng Xintian wanted to go with Lu Jingqiu, she squeezed in too.
Inside the truck, aside from the machine transported for this occasion, there was their merchandise.
Covered with a large tarpaulin.
The third aunt’s family got off the truck at the steel factory on the outskirts of the city district.
Yang Mingchao directly took Meng Xintian’s parents to the Government Compound.
Then, he prepared to take Jiang Nanzhou to the station.
Jiang Nanzhou wouldn’t allow it, "I can go by public bus."
After thinking, Yang Mingchao told him to wait at the textile factory on West Avenue after buying his tickets, as it was closer to the train station.
Jiang Nanzhou nodded and turned to Lu Jingqiu, "Do you want to come with me?"
But before Lu Jingqiu could speak, Meng Xintian grabbed her and spoke, "Comrade Jiang, you’ll have plenty of time with her after tomorrow. Can’t you let Jingqiu stay with me for a while?"
That comment made Jiang Nanzhou’s face heat up a bit.
Lu Jingqiu said, "I won’t go with you. I’ll wait over there with my cousin in a little while."
Jiang Nanzhou nodded, "Be careful when you have fun."
"Okay."
Lu Jingqiu watched him board the bus at the stop sign and only after he was gone did she feel relieved to glance at her cousin.
Seeing that there were no more people around, the cousin finally said, "Qiuqiu, go have fun. Remember to wait over there later."
Lu Jingqiu asked, "Second cousin, where are you all headed?"
Yang Mingchao wanted to tell Lu Jingqiu about selling goods, but stopped when he saw Meng Xintian.
Lu Jingqiu considered that no matter the city, there would always be a need for food. She glanced at Meng Xintian and said, "Xintian, my cousin has a surplus of rice and flour. Do you know where the Black Market is in your city?"
Meng Xintian opened her mouth and looked around before saying, "Are you going to the Black Market?"
Lu Jingqiu nodded. "There’s quite a lot; wouldn’t the Black Market sell it faster?"
Meng Xintian said, "I know the place, and I can introduce you to a few buyers."
Gao Da quickly interjected, "We have quite a bit, rice, white flour, also millet, radios."
Meng Xintian exclaimed, "You have radios too?"
A few people nodded.
Meng Xintian led them to the Black Market, but they didn’t go in, as their truck was too conspicuous.
Yang Mingchao just wanted to get a sense of the place; he and Gao Da had come in for a scout, and they planned to explore the Black Market tomorrow.
Meng Xintian said to them, "My brother Xinguo used to come here often before, but we haven’t been here since we started school.
By the way, can you sell me some of your millet and rice? I want twenty jin of each."
Yang Mingchao replied, "We’re all family, there’s no need to talk about buying and selling. I’ll pack some for you in a bit."
Meng Xintian waved her hand and said, "Don’t bother. Aren’t you guys going to the textile factory on West Avenue later? I’ll find you there in a bit. Jingqiu, I’m going home to get some things and will come back to find you."
"...Okay, be careful on the road," Jingqiu replied.
Jingqiu wanted to ask her for the Black Market’s address, but to her surprise, Meng Xintian was actually looking to bring them customers.
Who needs to go shopping anymore?
After Meng Xintian left, Yang Mingchao and Gao Da changed their clothes, each carrying a bamboo basket on their back, and brought a scale to have a look inside.
"Second cousin, Fourth Brother Gao, let me come with you." No sooner had she finished speaking, she was met with two pairs of glaring eyes that sent her a stern refusal: "We’re strangers in a strange land, this isn’t our West City. We two are going in to scout, not actually to sell goods. It’d be best if we could meet the boss of the Black Market and sell all our goods directly to him. If we have to sell bit by bit, it’ll take a lot of time."
Gao Da added, "Your brother’s right. You stay here and watch the goods for us, we’ll be out soon."
"Oh, just be careful, then," Jingqiu said.
Thus, Jingqiu watched nervously as the two of them entered the Black Market.
About half an hour later, they hurried out, their baskets completely empty.
"Ah, that was quick," she exclaimed.
Yang Mingchao smiled and said, "There were quite a few people inside. It didn’t take long before we were surrounded. They bought in five and ten jin increments, so it sold quickly.
"
"Did you meet the boss of the Black Market?" she inquired.
Gao Da shook his head, "No. We’re planning to check out West Avenue, where we have a friend in the transport team. Normally, when we encounter each other and have goods to move, we give each other a heads-up."
Jingqiu quickly got in the truck and followed them to West Avenue.
On the way, she found that Yangjiang City wasn’t very big, and she even spotted a farmers’ market where some seafood had just been transported in.
Being close to the sea, there should be plenty of seafood. She thought about checking it out later to see if she could buy some dried fish to take home.
At the entrance of the textile factory on West Avenue, the transport team was located diagonally across. No wonder.
"Second cousin, Fourth Brother Gao, go find your friend. I want to look around here for a farmers’ market to buy some seafood. Do you want anything?" she asked.
After a moment’s thought, Gao Da nodded, "Sure, if you find something, get some for me too, and I’ll pay you back when we return."
After walking north for a while, Jingqiu didn’t find any supply and marketing cooperatives or farmers’ markets. It was hot and there were few pedestrians on the road. When she finally encountered someone, she hastily approached and asked, "Excuse me, sir, could you tell me where the nearest farmers’ market is?"
The man with the bamboo basket on his back shook his head.
Jingqiu felt a bit disappointed, but then she caught the scent of the sea on the man and took a closer look at the basket on his back and his clothing, suddenly having an idea.
Glancing around and seeing no one else nearby, she hurriedly caught up to him.
"Sir, do you have any seafood?" she asked.
The man was taken aback and looked around cautiously before answering, "I’m here to see my sister and brought her some fish goods. But it turns out she moved and I can’t find her; I was just about to head back. I’m tired of carrying this, little comrade. Do you want to take a look?"
Jingqiu nodded and pointed to a corner nearby. The man understood and quickly carried his basket over there.
