Chapter 758: Chapter 739 Xiu’s Cultivation Career (1)_1
No matter how displeased the men of the Situ Family and Loo Family were with Xiao Muli, who had snatched away their treasure, they couldn’t just kick him out along with the gloating Old Master Xiao, not without considering the feelings of the women of both families.
Xiao Muli sat calmly at the dining table, facing unfriendly glances from all directions without his expression changing. His emotions only fluctuated more intensely when he faced Situ Xin.
Old Master Xiao, taking the dish he loved that was placed in front of him, cast a boastful glance at Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo, then said to Situ Xin, "It’s the thoughtfulness of Xiao Xin that warms my heart, knowing exactly what Grandpa Xiao enjoys eating. Not like our bratty boy, always with a stern face, pretending to be cool. But, oh, the most correct thing this lad has ever done in his life was to fall for you, girl." He had intended to say that the most correct thing Xiao Muli had done in his life was to marry Situ Xin, but upon receiving those fiery glares around the dining table, he decided to alter his words.
Although the relationship between his grandson Xiao Muli and Situ Xin was confirmed for the time being, there was still no marriage certificate. If he truly angered the men of the Situ and Loo Families, they might just change their minds.
Confronting Old Master Xiao’s boasting, Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo clenched their teeth so hard it nearly emanated a "grit, grit" sound. They itched to throw the irritating Old Master Xiao out. Noticing her grandfather and maternal grandfather’s emotions growing too intense, Situ Xin hurriedly served them their favorite dishes.
She said, "Grandpa, Grandfather, please eat. The food will not taste good if it gets cold."
Watching their sweet and considerate granddaughter, the two old men managed to suppress their irritation and smiled at Situ Xin.
The matter was finally put to rest. If Situ Xin hadn’t come out today to even things out and had let the situation escalate, Xiao Muli and his grandfather would probably have been chased out by Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo.
As for Xiao Muli, he was utterly helpless about his grandfather’s counterproductive actions. It was ridiculous, considering his grandfather would usually act all experienced at home, advising him on what to do, but if he really did as his grandfather suggested, he would probably remain unmarried for life.
This meal passed with potential disaster averted; however, Situ Xin was truly at a loss for words regarding Old Master Xiao. Watching from the side, she couldn’t help thinking that Old Master Xiao had come to stir up trouble, deliberately so.
His uncanny knack for provoking her grandfather and maternal grandfather, stepping exactly where their landmines were, was on full display. Yet, seeing the three old men bicker, Situ Xin still felt it was a good thing. After all, the elderly needed this kind of liveliness, with constant bickering, to strengthen their affections for one another.
As Situ Xin pondered this, an image of her and Xiao Muli bickering popped into her mind, making her face grow hot. How on earth had she suddenly started thinking about Xiao Muli?
Situ Xin sneaked a glance at Xiao Muli with the corner of her eye, relieved that he was busy dealing with her dad and the others. She silently heaved a sigh of relief, for if Xiao Muli had noticed her unusual behavior, she would have been truly embarrassed.
However, Situ Xin did not realize that all her actions had been observed by her brother, Situ Jin, who had just returned that day.
Situ Jin watched his sister, who clearly had a young girl’s infatuation, with complex feelings swirling in his heart. He felt a tinge of loss, as the soft, little princess of his memory had grown up so quickly, becoming so beautiful. And to think she might inadvertently be swept away by another man—even if that man was his childhood friend—still felt like a cherished treasure had been taken from him.
Apart from the sense of loss and reluctance, Situ Jin felt genuinely relieved, especially seeing that his childhood friend truly cared for his precious sister. And his treasured little sister seemed to have sprung her own feelings in return. The fact that Situ Jin had these feelings was because Situ Xin had always followed him closely, practically by his side at all times before college, except when they were sleeping at night. He had long noticed that his beloved sister, while seeming tender and adorably fair-skinned on the outside, was actually quite aloof—cold-blooded, one might say.
Of course, she genuinely cared for her family, but she could be cold and ruthless to those outside their circle, especially towards those she did not accept.
At first, Situ Jin thought his sister’s personality was not bad for their kind of family, as it meant she was less likely to be exploited by ill-intended individuals. But as they grew up, Situ Jin slowly understood that besides the love of family and friends, there should also be romance in their lives.
If any one of these three kinds of love were missing, a person’s life could be said to be incomplete.
Since that realization, Situ Jin started to worry about his beloved sister, Situ Xin, concerned that her personality would make it difficult for a man, particularly a stranger, to enter her heart.
Back then, he had never considered or noticed the unusual affection his two childhood friends had for his sister—if he had known, he would have undoubtedly nipped it in the bud without a second thought.
Although Situ Jin was worried about his sister’s romantic future, he, as her brother, felt Situ Xin was not yet at the age for romantic love. Thus, he would not allow anyone to pursue his sister with romantic intentions—even if it was his best friend.
However, now, seeing his sister’s tender and shy love-struck appearance, Situ Jin was relieved that Xiao Muli had kept his feelings for Situ Xin so well hidden, escaping his notice. Otherwise, he didn’t know what the situation would be like now.
And then there was the matter of Situ Xin’s love life; he feared that she might choose to live alone forever. Despite the fact that he, and even their entire family, was willing to take care of her for life, such a lifestyle seemed too lonely in Situ Jin’s eyes.
