Situ Jin was definitely not blind to Xiao Muli’s unusual behavior towards Situ Xin. Being fairly meticulous, especially in regards to his precious sister, he had dropped his playful demeanor after Situ Xin left the room and put on a serious expression.

Nibbling slowly on an apple, he said, "Muli, what exactly is going on between you and my Baby sister?"

"Hehe, you noticed, huh? I like Baby, and now I’m actually dating her," Xiao Muli replied without hesitation, eager to validate his relationship. External constraints had previously held him back, mainly Situ Xin’s request, making him hope that Situ Jin would uncover the truth himself.

"What, you’re dating Baby? You, you..." Situ Jin hadn’t expected to receive such an answer from Xiao Muli. He stood up from his chair in a fit of agitation, the apple in his hand now forgotten.

Situ Jin’s gaze bore into Xiao Muli as if he wanted to devour him, but Xiao Muli was not intimidated. Looking straight back, he said, "Jin, I’m serious. I like, no, I love Baby."

"I don’t care whether you’re serious or not. How old is Baby, even? How could you just," Situ Jin’s teeth itched with frustration. "Hmph, if it wasn’t for the serious injury you’re saddled with right now, I would definitely grab you and give you a good beating," after a pause, Situ Jin added, "As for this matter, I’ll inform my grandpa and maternal grandfather. You just deal with it however you see fit."

Having said so, Situ Jin, clutching the apple, turned and strode out of the sickroom.

What Situ Jin didn’t know was that Xiao Muli wasn’t at all frightened by his words. In fact, Muli was eagerly anticipating Situ Jin telling Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo about his relationship with Situ Xin. After leaving Xiao Muli’s hospital room, Situ Xin didn’t go straight home. Instead, she looked for Gao Yong, the chief of the military hospital who claimed to be her disciple, although she had never acknowledged him as such.

Gao Yong’s secretary recognized Situ Xin. Or rather, he had seen her once, and after that encounter, Gao Yong made it clear that Situ Xin was his master, and if she ever came looking for him, she should not be stopped.

So when Situ Xin arrived at the director’s office to see Gao Yong, his secretary greeted her respectfully but did not stop her from entering.

"Come in."

Upon pushing open the door, Situ Xin saw Gao Yong absorbed in the study of the ancient medical text she had previously given him.

"What is it? Tell me." He assumed it was one of the doctors from his hospital looking for him about some matter, so he didn’t even raise his head. His eyes didn’t stray from the medical book given to him by Situ Xin.

Seeing Gao Yong’s studious demeanor improved Situ Xin’s impression of him considerably. In her heart, she pondered teaching him certain medical practices if he truly had a talent for it, given his serious attitude.

The medical techniques Situ Xin considered teaching Gao Yong were those inscribed on the Jade Token in her mind, which were far superior to anything contained in the book she had provided him with.

"Eh, you have something to say? Go on, I’m listening." Puzzled by the continued silence, Gao Yong finally looked up, and when he did, he was startled. "Master, you, why are you here?"

Caught up in her own thoughts, it took Situ Xin a moment to recollect herself after Gao Yong spoke. "Why shouldn’t I be here? I’ve been standing here a long time now. Also, I’ve told you, stop calling me master. I’m not your master." When Situ Xin heard Gao Yong call her master, images of Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Seng calling Tang Seng "Master" in ’Journey to the West’ involuntarily popped into her head, sending shivers down her spine.

"Master, regardless of whether you acknowledge me as your disciple, I’ve considered you my master since you gave me this medical book," Gao Yong said, holding up the book. He had been studying it intensely for days—while his college major hadn’t been traditional Chinese medicine, he had learned some from his grandfather as a child, so he could understand the book’s content.

Indeed, the more Gao Yong read, the more astounded he became. Some knowledge in the book didn’t exist in modern Chinese medicine—for instance, the effectiveness of a medicine could change drastically with the order and timing of how it was brewed. Some wrong methods could even render the remedy useless or harmful to the patient.

After perusing the various pharmacological insights, Gao Yong took them back for his grandfather to examine. He vividly remembered the gleam in his grandfather’s eyes upon flipping through the pages. Thinking of his grandfather, Gao Yong cautiously asked Situ Xin, "Master, could you let my grandfather take a look at this medical book? He’s a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine and has been studying it his entire life. The last time I ran into something I didn’t understand, I took it to my grandfather, and his eyes lit up when he saw it. So, I want to ask if it’s okay for my grandfather to look at this book?"

Gao Yong’s grandfather, although greatly interested in the medical book his grandson presented, knew it must have been a closely guarded family heirloom. The fact that it had been shared with him was already a blessing; they couldn’t be greedy. Thus, he refused the offer to study it for a few days.

"Sure, once I gave you that book, it became yours. Whoever you want to share it with is up to you," Situ Xin, habitually lazy, would always choose to sit if she could. She didn’t wait for Gao Yong to respond and seated herself on the sofa.

"But... this is too precious a gift for me to accept," he remembered his grandfather saying that the book was likely an heirloom of the Situ family, and he was fortunate to have even seen it. He dare not covet it.

"Precious? I suppose." Situ Xin never really valued the book that much. "All right, since you’ve called me master, I’ll give you this book as a token of our master-disciple relationship. Now that I’m giving it to you, you can show it to whoever you like." Situ Xin was there to discuss something with Gao Yong; she didn’t want to get wrapped up in this issue any longer.
