Chapter 600: Chapter 600: Rescuing Brother Muli (7)_1
It’s not surprising that this case has garnered such attention from the higher-ups.
Old Master Xiao and the others could understand this, but when they heard this, even Situ Xin was puzzled. This was a kidnapping case; how had Xiao Muli ended up getting shot? With this question in mind, Situ Xin blurted out, "How did Brother Muli get shot?"
"Let me explain," Situ Xin asked, and the eyes of Xu Guangbiao and the others fell on Situ Jin and Yu Qihao. They were merely orchestrating the operation without participating in the action themselves, so they were unclear about the specifics.
"Following the intelligence provided by the higher-ups, we arrived at the kidnappers’ hideout and carefully surveilled the number of kidnappers and the hostages’ conditions. The situation was exactly as reported. Therefore, they followed the strategy set by the higher-ups before arrival to rescue the hostages first, and then arrest the kidnappers. The rescue went smoothly. But when we were moving the hostages to safety and planning to go back to capture the kidnappers, the situation suddenly changed. Several armed, masked men appeared out of nowhere; they moved with agility and were clearly trained. As soon as they showed up, they started attacking us lethally. It was at that moment, in the act of saving Qi Hao, that Muli was shot," Situ Jin summarized the events.
Upon hearing Situ Jin’s recount, Old Master Loo inquired, "How is the kidnapped hostage doing?" Old Master Loo raised the question after hearing Situ Jin not mention the state of the kidnapped hostage. He didn’t want the kids to have risked their lives only to fail their mission in the end.
"The hostage has been safely rescued and is currently undergoing a comprehensive medical examination at the hospital," Xu Guangbiao replied, as it wasn’t Situ Jin who responded this time.
"As long as our efforts weren’t in vain," Old Master Loo sighed in relief upon hearing that the hostage had been successfully rescued.
Situ Xin didn’t dwell on whether the hostage was rescued; she was more concerned about the sudden appearance of the armed masked men. While listening to Situ Jin recount the event, she felt something was amiss. Aside from the masked men who had appeared unexpectedly, she couldn’t pinpoint what else was wrong.
But subconsciously, she felt that there was more to this incident than met the eye.
"Where are those kidnappers and the masked men now?" Situ Xin looked towards Xu Guangbiao and suddenly asked.
Situ Xin’s question took Xu Guangbiao by surprise. He then glanced at Old Master Situ with a troubled expression. Xu Guangbiao knew about Situ Xin’s identity since she had entered the room. A princess of the Situ and Loo Families was not someone he could afford to offend. However, the issue Situ Xin was inquiring about involved confidential matters, which he absolutely couldn’t disclose.
Remembering that their department was somewhat special and not everyone could be privy to certain details, Situ Xin recalled that her ability to listen in was thanks to her grandfather and maternal grandfather’s statuses.
Situ Xin didn’t wish to make things difficult for Xu Guangbiao. Before he could directly appeal to Old Master Situ for help, Situ Xin presented a badge from the Dark Division Leader. "I belong to the Dark Division," she declared.
Xu Guangbiao looked at the badge from the Dark Division in Situ Xin’s hand, utterly astonished. They all recognized this badge of the Dark Division; they were given specific information about the Dark Division when they joined this special department.
What truly shocked Xu Guangbiao was not just that Situ Xin had revealed a Dark Division badge, but that he recognized the badge in her hand as that of the Dark Division Leader. He thought to himself, "So those rumors were true."
There had been discussions in their circle about the new Leader of the Dark Division, and they had faintly heard that it might be Situ Xin, the Princess of the Situ and Loo Families. At that time, they didn’t take it seriously because they couldn’t fathom such a young child becoming the Leader of the Dark Division.
"Should I be able to speak now?" Situ Xin slightly lifted her chin and looked at Xu Guangbiao, her regal demeanor fully unveiled.
"Yes, of course," Xu Guangbiao inwardly conceded upon witnessing the aura emanating from Situ Xin. A young person with such a commanding presence surely deserved to be the Leader of the Dark Division.
"Then please answer my question," Situ Xin stated impatiently.
"We captured all the kidnappers. But the masked men either died or escaped; we didn’t catch any of them alive," Xu Guangbiao said, feeling agitated. He had been furious upon hearing the news. If Xiao Muli hadn’t been severely injured and confined to the hospital, he would have already gone back to have meetings by now.
After hearing Xu Guangbiao’s words, Situ Xin unconsciously frowned, thinking that the personnel in Xu Guangbiao’s department needed re-evaluation, having failed to capture even a single one of their adversaries alive. "Have you interrogated those kidnappers?" she asked.
"We did, right after they were brought in," Xu Guangbiao, feeling immense pressure under Situ Xin’s gaze, felt as nervous as he had never been even in the presence of the highest leaders.
"And the result?" Situ Xin shifted her gaze away from Xu Guangbiao after noticing his incessant forehead wiping, which allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief.
"We didn’t get any useful information. The kidnappers claimed they didn’t know the masked men who appeared suddenly, and they had no idea why they showed up," Xu Guangbiao explained, feeling a wave of headache. Although they had successfully rescued the kidnapped hostage, the case remained unsolved; especially since the mastermind behind it was still at large. He had no clear explanation for his superiors.
