Chapter 592: Chapter 592 Critical Illness Notice (1)_1
As soon as the car stopped at the hospital, Old Master Xiao didn’t wait for the driver to open the door for him; he directly opened the door and stepped out himself. His agile movements betrayed none of his more than seventy years of age; he almost resembled a middle-aged person.
Old Master Xiao’s impressive constitution owed much to the good things Situ Xin had given him over the years. Although Old Master Xiao and Situ Xin had no blood relation, almost everything that her grandfather and Grandpa Xiao had for nourishing the body, Old Master Xiao also received a share. Situ Xin had long since regarded Old Master Xiao as her own grandfather.
"Hey, Old Xiao, don’t rush, take it slow," Old Master Situ, who followed Old Master Xiao out of the car, said after noticing his hurried movements.
But Old Master Xiao seemed as if he hadn’t heard at all. His pace towards the hospital’s entrance didn’t slow in the slightest.
"Situ, don’t bother, with Old Xiao’s current state of mind, he won’t listen to anything. We better catch up quickly and see for ourselves. If something happens, it would be better for us to be there," Old Master Loo thought of things Old Master Situ hadn’t, deeply aware that Old Master Xiao wouldn’t be able to handle it if something serious had happened to Xiao Muli. Therefore, to be cautious, they decided it would be better if they were nearby.
Situ Xin’s Divine Sense emerged from the space the moment the car stopped. She was the last person to exit the vehicle, but her concern for Xiao Muli’s condition meant she didn’t call out to her grandfather or Old Master Loo and instead followed Old Master Xiao towards the hospital.
By the time Old Master Xiao and Old Master Loo finished speaking and turned to invite Situ Xin to join them, they realized she was already walking side by side with Old Master Xiao, nearing the entrance of the hospital. The two old masters quickly caught up.
"Grandpa Xiao," "Commander," Old Master Xiao and Situ Xin reached the door of the operating room after asking a nurse for directions.
Situ Jin, seated at the operating room’s entrance, was the first to spot Old Master Xiao and Situ Xin. Standing up and calling out, the other middle-aged men in uniform at the doorway also greeted them respectfully.
When Old Master Xiao found out that his grandson was in the operating room, he lost interest in anything else. His hand feebly waved at Situ Jin and the other middle-aged men in uniform before he anxiously looked at them with a quivering voice, "How is he? What’s Muli’s condition?" Old Master Xiao’s voice trembled as he asked, and the hand holding Situ Xin’s trembled unconsciously.
Situ Xin felt the trembling of Old Master Xiao’s hand but found herself unable to say anything to comfort him. Her eyes, unblinking, stared at her brother, waiting for him to answer Old Master Xiao’s questions.
Yet, it wasn’t Situ Jin who answered Old Master Xiao’s inquiries but the oldest man there, the one with the most stars on his shoulder, who stepped forward saying, "Old Commander, Muli has been in the operating room for a while. We’re not clear about the specifics; only when the doctor comes out can we know the exact situation."
"What kind of injury did Muli suffer?" Old Master Xiao asked the question with great difficulty, almost as if pushing the words out of his mouth one by one.
"Gunshot wound," answered the middle-aged man.
"Where was the gunshot wound?" questioned Old Master Xiao, a veteran of the battlefield and survivor of artillery fire. He knew that the location of the wound mattered greatly; if the bullet struck a less critical area, there was less risk to life and just removing the bullet would suffice. But if it hit a vital area, the situation would be completely different.
This knowledge from past life experiences is something Situ Xin also understood, which is why she was about to ask the same question as Old Master Xiao did.
"The chest," this time Situ Jin replied, "I only know it’s in the chest; the exact location, I’m not sure."
Situ Jin’s words weren’t very clear, but the meaning behind them was obvious to Situ Xin; he meant that he didn’t know if the bullet had hit Xiao Muli’s heart.
Upon hearing that the gunshot wound was in the chest, Old Master Xiao’s body couldn’t help but shake. Alarmed by the tremor, the just-arrived Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo, forgetting the hospital’s rule banning loud disturbances, almost cried out.
Fortunately, Situ Xin, standing by Old Master Xiao, caught him as he nearly fell. "Grandpa Xiao, are you alright?"
Old Master Xiao didn’t answer Situ Xin, merely shaking his head—not because he didn’t want to respond. He simply had no strength left in his body to speak.
Seeing Old Master Xiao like this only added to Situ Xin’s anxiety. She was already worried about Xiao Muli’s injuries and now had to worry about Old Master Xiao’s well-being. Worried that his fragile sister could not support the weight of Old Master Xiao, Situ Jin quickly moved to Old Master Xiao’s other side to help him.
Situ Xin glanced at her brother Situ Jin’s actions and then refocused her attention on Old Master Xiao, reassuring him, "Grandpa Xiao, don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to Brother Muli."
In truth, Situ Xin wasn’t sure whether she had said those words for Old Master Xiao’s benefit or her own.
"Yes, Old Xiao. Don’t panic yet. Muli is still in the operating room; if you collapse here, what good will it do? And don’t you trust in Baby’s medical skills? After all, wasn’t it Baby who cured Old Deng of his severe illness?" While Old Master Situ’s words were meant to be comforting, he understood that Xiao Muli’s gunshot wound and Old Deng’s illness were completely different matters. A gunshot wound like Xiao Muli’s could be fatal if not tended to promptly.
However, Old Master Situ didn’t want to see his old buddy collapse outside the operating room because of concerns for his grandson.
Old Master Xiao’s eyes lit up after hearing Old Master Situ’s words, clearly recalling the incident where Situ Xin saved Old Deng. His gaze towards Situ Xin was filled with hope.
