Chapter 445: Chapter 445 Xiao Family’s Ambition is Too Big (1)_1
Xiao Yanlei’s mother, upon seeing Liu Yuhan, pointed at her and said with an agitated tone, "Liu Yuhan, you still have the face to show up? Because of you, all because of you, my Yanlei ended up in the Discipline Inspection Commission."
"Xiao Ju, calm down," Xiao Yuechao urged, frowning at his wife who had completely lost her previous gentle and refined demeanor.
Usually, Xiao Yanlei’s mother would have obeyed her husband and immediately closed her mouth. But at this moment, she did the exact opposite, glaring at her husband, Xiao Yuechao, with a face full of rage, "You want me to calm down? How can I be calm at a time like this? My son has entered the Discipline Inspection Commission—do you know what kind of place that is? It’s where all officials of Country H are afraid to end up, a place you can hardly get out of once you’re in. How can I be calm? If I stay calm now, my son might be gone." As she spoke, tears flowed from Xiao Yanlei’s mother’s eyes, which she did not bother to wipe away. Instead, she stared unblinkingly at Xiao Yuechao, "The instigator of all this is her, Liu Yuhan. Maybe in your heart, your beloved niece, Liu Yuhan, is more important to you than your own son; it doesn’t matter to you even if it costs your son. But let me tell you, Xiao Yuechao, I will not stand for it. I am telling you, if anything happens to my son, I will not let her go. I’d drag her down with me even if I became a ghost," Xiao Yanlei’s mother said, pointing at Liu Yuhan and shouting at Xiao Yuechao with all her strength.
"Xiao Ju, what are you talking about? Yanlei is my son; how could I not care? I’m already trying to find a solution. Don’t be so agitated. Moreover, this matter..." Xiao Yuechao was somewhat displeased with his wife’s words, but considering the situation, he suppressed his irritation.
He tried to speak up for Liu Yuhan, his niece, but before he could say anything, his wife stopped him, "I don’t want to hear what you’re about to say, so don’t say it. Also, I’ll be going back to my parents’ house for a while." After that, Xiao Yanlei’s mother went upstairs without looking back, packed her things, and returned to her parents’ home.
Xiao Yuechao wanted to speak up and retain her, but opened his mouth and then said nothing.
Sitting in her wheelchair, Liu Yuhan, upon hearing her aunt’s sharp words, was already convinced of the truth in what Cao Mengqi had told her earlier. Her parents had truly run into trouble.
"Yuhan, what happened to your leg?" Old Madam Xiao knew that her daughter-in-law had been holding in her anger because of her grandson’s situation. Therefore, when her daughter-in-law lashed out, Old Madam Xiao chose to remain silent. Now that she saw her daughter-in-law had gone upstairs, she finally had a moment to attend to her granddaughter.
"Grandma, I’m fine," Liu Yuhan responded, not having the time to discuss her leg injury with her grandmother. Although she was convinced of the truth in Cao Mengqi’s words, she still looked up at her uncle, Xiao Yuechao, with a glimmer of hope, "Uncle, did my parents really get taken by the Discipline Inspection Commission?"
"Yes, we only got the news today too," replied Xiao Yuechao, not intending to hide the truth from his niece. As it was being reported on television and in the newspapers, causing quite an uproar, even if he wanted to conceal it, he couldn’t. It was better to just tell her directly.
"Then, Uncle, you and Grandpa must save my parents from the Discipline Inspection Commission." In Liu Yuhan’s heart, her grandfather’s power was boundless, and there was nothing in this world her grandfather couldn’t accomplish. Her mother had instilled this belief in her since she was young.
Upon hearing Liu Yuhan’s words, Xiao Yuechao’s face turned a bit unnatural as he said, "Yuhan, this matter is beyond your grandfather’s and my ability. If it were within our power, your brother Yanlei wouldn’t still be there now. As for your family’s situation, it’s a bit complicated." Continuing, Xiao Yuechao glanced at his niece in the wheelchair, walked over to the coffee table, took out a newspaper, and handed it to Liu Yuhan, "Yuhan, you’re an adult now, and you should know the truth about what’s happening. Here, have a good look for yourself."
"Yuechao, why are you showing Yuhan that paper?" Old Madam Xiao asked disapprovingly as she saw her youngest son hand the newspaper to her granddaughter.
"Mother, Yuhan’s not a child anymore, and it’s time she grew up. Protecting her and spoiling her isn’t solving anything. Just look at what’s happened; if Yuhan hadn’t acted the way she does, our Xiao Family wouldn’t be in this situation," Xiao Yuechao replied, though he hadn’t shouted at Liu Yuhan like his wife had. Still, he harbored some resentment towards Liu Yuhan in his heart—after all, his only son was in the Discipline Inspection Commission because of her.
But Liu Yuhan was his niece after all, the only daughter of his dear sister, and he couldn’t vent all of his dissatisfaction like his wife did.
"How could this be?" Liu Yuhan, looking at the newspaper her uncle handed her, contorted her face in disbelief, shaking her head and saying, "No, it can’t be. My father isn’t that kind of person; he wouldn’t do such things behind my mother’s back. What’s written in this newspaper has to be false. I will sue them for defamation." With that, Liu Yuhan threw the newspaper to the ground.
"Yuhan, calm down; what’s reported in the newspaper is factual. Your grandfather has already sent people to investigate. That woman and that boy are indeed your father’s mistress and illegitimate son," Xiao Yuechao interjected to stop the nearly hysterical Liu Yuhan, raising his voice at her.
Stunned by her uncle’s shout, Liu Yuhan finally quieted down. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she looked at Xiao Yuechao and asked, "Uncle, how could my father do such a thing? How could he?"
"Yuhan," Xiao Yuechao said, somewhat at a loss as he watched Liu Yuhan continue to cry, now regretting his earlier actions.
When Liu Yuhan came to the Xiao Family home to find Old Master Xiao, he had already gone to the Situ Family following his people’s advice.
