Chapter 442: Chapter 442: Fulfillment (3)_1
And when it rains, it pours for Liu Ping; right after the affair was brought to light, his wife, Xiao Yali, sought a divorce. But before the couple could face off, Liu Ping, Xiao Yali, and Liu Ping’s mistress and secretary were taken away by the disciplinary committee.
This was the work of The Dark Division, or perhaps it was due to the bribery scandal involving Liu Ping, Xiao Yali, and the mistress that had been exposed. Accompanying Liu Yuhan’s parents, who were also taken away by the disciplinary committee, was the entire Cao Mengqi family. Cao Mengqi’s parents were loyal supporters of Liu Yuhan’s parents. Thus, it was unlikely that Cao Mengqi’s parents were not involved in the bribery scandal as well.
Meanwhile, in Capital City.
Since Situ Xin wasn’t planning to move against the Xiao Family, but rather to teach them a lesson, The Dark Division placed their punitive action against the Xiao Family at the end of their list. However, before The Dark Division could take action,
Xiao Yanlei ran into trouble. The local tabloids splashed stories of Xiao Yanlei’s clandestine dealings with gangs and other criminal acts all over their pages. Normally, had the Xiao Family discovered this early and warned the paper, simply retracting those publications would have sufficed.
Yet, Xia Yujie of the Dragon Society stood firm against the pressure from the Xiao Family and went ahead with the sale of the newspapers detailing Xiao Yanlei’s association with the gangs. How could it be helped when the paper chosen by Shi Tou of the Green Gang was one under the Dragon Society, and Xiao Yanlei had offended the top lady of the Dragon Society?
The newspaper’s influence, combined later with evidence in the hands of the disciplinary committee, led to Xiao Yanlei being taken away for investigation.
Old Master Xiao received the news that his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson had all been taken away for investigation, which caused his blood pressure to spike so high he nearly collapsed.
After Xiao Yanlei was taken by the disciplinary committee, Old Master Xiao fell seriously ill. These past few days, he hadn’t left his bed. Looking at his two sons and daughters-in-law standing by his bedside, he asked, "How are things with Yanlei? Have they identified the mastermind behind it all? And what’s going on with Yali and Liu Ping?"
Old Master Xiao’s eldest son, Xiao Yuejiang, stepped forward and answered, "Dad, we have found out. The situations with Yali, Liu Ping, and the Cao Family were orchestrated by The Dark Division. As for Yanlei’s case, it was Shi Tou of the Green Gang who leaked it to the press. Then, we tried to suppress that newspaper, but the head of the Dragon Society personally ordered that all publications be distributed as usual."
Xiao Yuejiang and the others were able to find all this information because Situ Xin had specifically instructed them to. Otherwise, with the Xiao Family’s limited capabilities, they would not have been able to uncover the actions of the Green Gang’s Shi Tou so quickly.
What Situ Xin did was an open and direct message to the Xiao Family and everyone in Capital City, telling them that Xiao Yanlei and Liu Yuhan had offended him, and he was determined to settle scores.
"The Green Gang? I didn’t expect Shi Tou of the Green Gang to have those pieces of evidence all along. He’s detestable. You two, go and capture Shi Tou for me. I won’t let him off easily," grumbled Old Master Xiao, who had never anticipated that the Xiao Family would be brought down by a gang leader.
"Dad, please save Yanlei. These past few days, I’ve reached out to everyone I know, but not a single person is willing to lend a hand," said Xiao Yanlei’s mother. She spoke out despite the fear she felt towards her father-in-law, overwhelmed with worry for her son.
Ever since she heard about her son’s predicament, Xiao Yanlei’s mother had been frantic, calling in favors and trying to get her son out of the disciplinary committee’s custody.
However, the influential figures in Capital City were all aware of Xiao Yanlei’s situation, and it was widely believed that his downfall was solely due to offending Situ Xin.
Once aware of this, those people of power kept their distance from Xiao Yanlei’s affairs, cautious not to accidentally get involved and provoke Situ Xin’s retaliation.
But they didn’t know that Xiao Yanlei’s issue had nothing to do with Situ Xin. Or, it wasn’t entirely unrelated. Situ Xin had simply given a slight push from the background, amplifying the commotion around Xiao Yanlei just a bit.
The politicians on the same boat as Old Master Xiao knew they were in too deep with the Xiao Family to ignore Yanlei’s situation. But before Old Master Xiao could reach out to them, they were only too happy to sever ties and avoid any association with the matter.
"I will take care of this matter," said Old Master Xiao, leaning on the headboard and casting a faint glance at his younger daughter-in-law. "Yue Jiang, help me gather our side’s people. I have matters to discuss with them."
"Dad, what about your health?" asked Xiao Yuejiang with concern. The doctor had said his father needed rest and relaxation.
"It’s nothing serious. If we don’t handle this correctly, our Xiao Family could be finished," Old Master Xiao frowned and said to Xiao Yuejiang and Xiao Yuechao.
When Cao Mengqi got the news that her parents were taken in by the disciplinary committee, she rushed to the hospital to Liu Yuhan’s sickbed.
In the hospital room, Liu Yuhan, who had been suffering from uninterrupted leg pain that not even painkillers could relieve, had grown increasingly irritable. The fact that nobody from the Xiao Family had come to see her in the past few days only made her agitation peak. Doctors and nurses, scared off by Liu Yuhan’s terrible temper, dared not enter the room except for daily mandatory checks.
Cao Mengqi had barely stepped into the room when a pillow flew at her, followed by Liu Yuhan’s screams. Liu Yuhan’s voice was already hoarse from days of crying and shouting, "Call my grandfather for me! I don’t want to stay in this lousy hospital anymore, the doctors are useless, they can’t even treat my leg."
