Chapter 374: Chapter 374 Making a Deal (3)_1
Situ Xin arrived at the front gate of the compound filled with curiosity, followed closely by Situ Jin.
As soon as Situ Xin appeared at the entrance of the compound, Fu Xiaoyi ran to her side, grabbed her arm, and started crying. Between sobs, she said, "Situ Xin, I can give up Xiao Muli to you. I can break off my engagement with him. But please, you must save my parents."
Situ Xin frowned in displeasure at Fu Xiaoyi’s grasp on her arm. Moreover, whether intentional or not, Fu Xiaoyi was gripping her arm tightly, and she could feel the pain. Situ Xin subtly extricated her arm from Fu Xiaoyi’s grasp.
Then, she stepped back and said, "Miss Fu, what are you talking about? Whether or not you have a marriage with Xiao Muli is something you should discuss with Xiao Muli himself, it has nothing to do with me. Besides, I think Xiao Muli is not someone you, Miss Fu, can give away just because you say so. Lastly, regarding your request that I save your parents, I’m puzzled—what’s happened to your parents?" Situ Xin had never expected Fu Xiaoyi to seek her out for her parents.
Feeling perplexed, Situ Xin said to Baibai, "Baibai, is Fu Xiaoyi’s brain functioning normally? Why would she come to me? I have nothing to do with her at all."
"Then, Situ Xin, can you call out Grandpa Xiao and Xiao Muli for me? I need to speak with them," Fu Xiaoyi said, still looking pitifully at Situ Xin.
This time, before Situ Xin could say anything, Situ Jin stepped in front of her and said sharply to Fu Xiaoyi, "Fu Xiaoyi, I don’t care what scheme you’ve come up with to approach my sister. But I’d advise you to weigh your own importance before taking action. Not everyone is at your disposal for manipulation. I’m telling you, if you dare to target my sister, I won’t hesitate to make an exception and lay hands on a woman." Situ Jin paused before adding, "Besides, if you want Xiao Muli, go and seek out the Xiao Family. However, I think, the Xiao Family doesn’t even take you seriously."
Fu Xiaoyi looked down, deep in thought. Just as Situ Jin was pulling Situ Xin to enter the compound, she suddenly lifted her head, biting her lip with a desperate look, and said, "Can we talk somewhere? There are some things I can’t say here, but if you’re not afraid, I don’t mind saying them here."
"Baby, ignore her, let’s go," Situ Jin said, very unimpressed with Fu Xiaoyi and not believing a word she said, thinking it was all just to deceive people.
"Brother, wait a moment. Since she has something to say to us, it’s not nice to be too rude. We are not too busy anyway, so let’s keep Miss Fu company and have a little chat," Situ Xin suddenly felt intrigued looking at Fu Xiaoyi’s demeanor. Moreover, she had a hunch that what Fu Xiaoyi had to say might be of interest to her.
Although Situ Jin didn’t want Situ Xin to interact too much with Fu Xiaoyi, as a quintessential protective brother, he found it difficult to refuse Situ Xin’s requests. "Fine, whatever you say," he said indulgently as he ruffled Situ Xin’s hair, already planning in his mind to talk to Xiao Muli later.
He wanted him to get rid of those nuisances around him as soon as possible.
"Brother, you’ve messed up my hair," Situ Xin complained.
Watching the interaction between Situ Xin and her brother Situ Jin, Fu Xiaoyi couldn’t hide her envy and resentment. Before her parents’ troubles, she wouldn’t have felt much seeing the siblings together. But after her parents’ troubles left her all alone, she desperately wished she had someone by her side to face life’s storms with her.
"Miss Fu, you said you had something to talk about? Let’s go," Situ Xin’s words pulled Fu Xiaoyi’s thoughts back.
The three of them arrived at a coffee shop not far from the military district’s compound.
This coffee shop was often frequented by Situ Jin and his childhood friends; the moment the wait staff saw Situ Jin enter, they promptly greeted him and asked attentively, "Young Master Situ, would you like your usual spot?"
"Yes, the usual spot," Situ Jin replied, his face devoid of much expression, with a simple nod.
Sitting at a window seat in the coffee shop, Situ Xin stirred the cappuccino in her cup every now and then. Situ Jin thought Situ Xin was still young and that coffee didn’t suit her, even attempting to order her freshly squeezed juice instead. This was something Situ Xin had argued over with Situ Jin just earlier.
However, after just one sip of the coffee, Situ Xin frowned and didn’t take a second one. She made mental calculations, contemplating when she could procure some coffee bean seeds and grow them in her own space. Then she would hand-grind them and brew the coffee herself. Surely the taste would be excellent.
At that thought, Situ Xin almost drooled.
"Miss Fu, if you have something to say, please speak quickly. We do not have time to waste here with you," Situ Jin said, pulling Situ Xin’s wandering thoughts back to reality.
Fu Xiaoyi clutched her coffee cup tightly, her nervousness evident as she bit her lip. "I know that the Situ Family and the Xiao Family are in the same boat. If the Xiao Family falls, the Situ Family will surely be implicated."
Fu Xiaoyi’s words caused Situ Xin and Situ Jin to exchange a glance, both appearing surprised and interested in what they saw in each other’s eyes.
"Oh? I don’t understand what you mean by bringing this up all of a sudden, Miss Fu?" Situ Jin leaned back into the sofa behind him, his eyes unwavering as he stared at Fu Xiaoyi.
"I mean to say, the relationships between Liu Family, our Fu Family, and the Xiao Family, I assume you are aware of. It’s common knowledge that the Liu Family and the Fu Family are backed by the Xiao Family. Now that both our Liu Family and Fu Family have run into trouble, do you think the Xiao Family can escape unscathed? Moreover, Uncle Xiao and Aunt Liu have both been taken away by the disciplinary committee," Fu Xiaoyi said, throwing caution to the wind.
"We do know about the relationship between the Liu Family and the Xiao Family, but your Fu Family’s connection with the Xiao Family is something we truly weren’t aware of. If I remember correctly, that ’Uncle Xiao’ and ’Aunt Liu’ you mentioned were expelled from the Xiao Family by Grandpa Xiao and no longer have any ties with them. Whatever those two have done has nothing to do with Xiao Family," Situ Xin continued, looking at Fu Xiaoyi: "I think, in today’s society, we shouldn’t have that old societal notion of condemned by association anymore, should we? Where, if one member of a family commits a crime, the entire family must be held accountable. Moreover, whether Uncle Xiao and Aunt Liu were involved in this incident is not yet certain."
