Chapter 324: Chapter 324: College Entrance Exam (2)_1
"Master, what are you doing?" Baibai, who had been sleeping soundly, was rudely awakened by its unscrupulous owner.
"Baibai, if your owner is up, how can you sleep so comfortably?" Situ Xin completely woke Baibai up before he contentedly went downstairs for breakfast, leaving the frustrated Baibai behind.
When Situ Xin came downstairs, Situ Jin was already sitting at the table and had started eating breakfast. "Bro, you’re up early." Situ Xin took a seat next to Situ Jin and, seeing the zongzi and cakes on the table, asked curiously, "Bro, why are we eating zongzi and cakes this morning?"
"Grandma and Mom specially prepared them, saying that if you eat these zongzi and cakes, you’ll perform well in high school," Situ Jin explained to Situ Xin.
"Oh? There’s such a saying?" Situ Xin from her past life had never taken the gaokao and, to put it bluntly, had never formally attended school. She was totally unaware of these beliefs, so upon hearing what Situ Jin said, she was quite curious.
After Situ Xin and Situ Jin had breakfast, they grabbed their admission tickets and stationery, preparing to head to the examination site. Just as they were about to leave with their things, Old Master Situ, Old Master Loo, Old Madam Situ, Old Madam Loo, and Loo Yaxin all appeared, looking ready to head out.
"Yeah, Grandpa and Grandfather, are you all going out too?" Situ Xin had not anticipated that this whole group was planning to accompany them to the exams. The previous time during the middle school exams, Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo planned to accompany them, but were eventually dissuaded by Situ Xin. Therefore, she naturally assumed that no one would be accompanying them this time either.
"Yes, we’re going out. Baby, let’s hurry up. If we wait any longer, we might get stuck in traffic," Old Master Situ didn’t explain to Situ Xin where they were off to; he merely urged her to hurry up.
Only when Situ Xin got into the same van with Old Master Situ and the others did she suddenly realize that they were coming along to the exams. To fit everyone in one vehicle, Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo had even specially arranged for a van.
By the time Situ Xin understood what was happening, the car had already started moving, and it was not appropriate for her to ask them to get out and not go. This was a lesson Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo learned from the last midterm exams when they knew that if they informed Situ Xin beforehand, they would be refused.
"Baby, don’t be nervous during the exam. It’s okay if you don’t do well," Situ Xin heard Old Master Situ’s words, looked up at him, and, seeing his obvious anxiety, thought helplessly, "Grandpa, I’m not the least bit nervous, so why are you so anxious?"
These thoughts, Situ Xin kept to herself, as she wouldn’t actually voice them. "Grandpa, I got it, I’m not nervous," she said.
"That’s good. Are your admission ticket and stationery all ready?" No sooner had Situ Xin reassured Old Master Situ when Old Master Loo spoke up. With that remark, Old Madam Loo, Old Madam Situ, and Loo Yaxin began to check the items Situ Xin and Situ Che were taking to the exam.
Situ Xin and Situ Che, seeing these few people who were checking their things for not the first time, shook their heads helplessly.
When the car stopped outside the examination site, Situ Xin and Situ Che greeted the few people inside and quickly got out with their admission tickets and stationery, heading into the exam site as if fleeing.
The first exam of the day was for Chinese language, which wasn’t Situ Xin’s strong suit. Although the memory-related parts of the Chinese paper were incredibly easy for Situ Xin, the essay section was her weakest point among all subjects.
However, Situ Xin found the Chinese exam paper quite smooth to tackle this time, and she completed the essay in one go.
In the afternoon, it was time for the math exam, which was Situ Xin’s strong point. This year’s math questions were harder than usual, a challenge for other students but just a piece of cake for Situ Xin and Situ Jin.
They finished their papers even before time was up.
The following two exams, for comprehensive sciences and English, didn’t worry Situ Xin and her peers at all. Overall, they found the gaokao extremely smooth sailing. But that was just them—many other students were in tears after the math and comprehensive sciences exams, some even cried as their papers were collected, continuing to cry all the way out of the exam hall.
Seeing such scenes left Situ Xin quite puzzled. In everyday exams, she had never seen anyone cry, and if they did, it would be after the results came out.
For Situ Xin and her peers, the gaokao was not a source of stress. They believed that if they couldn’t even do well in this exam, they had no business being in their line of work.
When Murong Wanyu saw Situ Xin after the exam ended, she gave her a fierce hug. Murong Wanyu was utterly surprised during the math and comprehensive sciences exams. Many of the challenging questions were the same ones Situ Xin had explained to her in tutoring sessions during the last month at her insistence.
She never expected these questions to be on the gaokao, remembering how she had complained about the difficulty of these questions during tutoring, questioning how such hard questions could be on the test. Yet there they were.
Murong Wanyu hugged Situ Xin tightly and whispered in her ear, "Xiao Xin, thank you." She knew that without Situ Xin, she would surely have been one of the people who walked out of the exam hall in tears that day.
During the gaokao, Situ Xin and her friends had a particularly comfortable time, their only task being to answer the questions. However, when the exams ended, the older folks at home had all lost a considerable amount of weight from worry.
They all fretted over Situ Xin and her peers, worrying about their nervousness and fearing that the exams might be especially tough. In short, they worried about everything they should—and even what they shouldn’t.
When Situ Xin saw the older folks who had lost weight, her heart ached. After the gaokao, she seized control of the kitchen from Old Madam Situ and began cooking delicious meals daily for the family elders. On hearing that Situ Xin was personally cooking, every member of both the Situ Family and Loo Family who could make it would rush home for dinner every day.
