Chapter 187: Chapter 187 Old Deng’s Home (2)_1

"Yeah, Grandma Deng won’t be shy with you." Old Lady Deng answered, then opened another bag, took a deep breath, and said, "Xiao Xin, where did you get this scented tea from? It smells so good, far better than the one I asked someone to buy before."

The things Old Lady Deng had people buy were never inferior—they were all premium goods. But how could those premium goods compare to the items from Situ Xin’s space? "Xiao Xin, just smelling this scented tea makes me feel more spirited."

Upon hearing his wife speak like this and recalling what Old Master Situ and Old Master Loo had told him about Situ Xin’s master along with the gifts Situ Xin occasionally brought him, Old Deng knew that whatever Situ Xin gave to his wife, it must be extraordinary.

"Xiao Xin, you’re playing favorites now. How come you’ve prepared a gift for your Grandma Deng, but what about your Grandpa Deng? What’s my gift?" Old Deng shamelessly asked Situ Xin for a gift. His action made the security guard who had followed him for many years gape in astonishment, unable to believe what he was seeing.

When had he ever seen Old Deng asking for anything? Usually, it was others who were eager to present gifts to Old Deng.

"Hmph, nothing for you, since you were not looking forward to my visit," Situ Xin replied with a pout.

"Oh dear, but I love to joke with you. I’m so happy when you visit," Old Deng said, now devoid of his usual authoritative demeanor, instead taking on the persona of an amiable grandfather.

Old Deng’s change in behavior did not surprise Old Lady Deng; she just watched the old man and the young girl bantering with a smiling face, feeling very content. Such a scene had never occurred in the Deng Family; usually, the younger members were extremely cautious around the two elders, treating them with the utmost respect. But as respectful as they were, it made the elderly couple quite unhappy at heart.

As for Old Deng’s security guard, he was so surprised he was practically gaping. It was impossible for him to reconcile this image of Old Deng wanting a gift from Situ Xin with the Old Deng he revered in his heart.

Situ Xin didn’t care what others thought. Her eyes darting around, she conceived a plan. "Grandpa Deng, I can give you a gift, but you’ll have to agree to something for me."

"You go ahead and tell me what it is first," said Old Deng, an old hand at navigating tricky situations, immediately picking up on Situ Xin’s implication.

Situ Xin pondered for a moment and then whispered into Old Deng’s ear, "Grandpa Deng, take me with you when you go to Xiangjiang."

"Nonsense. That’s not possible," Old Deng said, his smile disappearing as he became serious. "Girl, you know I’m not going there for fun." Old Deng knew Situ Xin was different from other children, but in his heart, a child was still a child.

"I know Grandpa Deng isn’t going there for fun. And neither am I." Situ Xin refrained from saying directly, "I’m worried you might be in danger, and I want to protect you." "Grandpa Deng, don’t worry, I’ll be good. Just take me with you, please."

"Girl, not this time. If you want to visit Xiangjiang for fun, wait until after your junior high exams. Grandpa Deng will arrange for someone to take you," Old Deng said, treating Situ Xin still as a child. Situ Xin was astute and through their time together had come to understand Old Deng’s temperament; she knew insisting on this matter would be in vain. But she also knew Old Deng’s refusal was for her own good.

"Fine, if you won’t take me, then don’t." Situ Xin might have given up verbally, but she was far from willing to let the matter rest. She was already contemplating alternative methods.

"Xiao Xin, why don’t you make a different request?" Old Deng suggested, upon hearing that Situ Xin was no longer fixating on the trip to Xiangjiang, his stern expression replaced by a kind smile.

"Mmm, I haven’t thought of anything else yet. Let’s just say you owe me one for now," Situ Xin responded. She had proposed the earlier request wanting to test if she could join the trip easily. Now that it was off the table, she didn’t have other demands. Besides, she could handle some matters that even Old Deng might not be able to resolve.

It’s not that Old Deng’s influence was inferior to Situ Xin’s, but his current status came with many restrictions, whereas Situ Xin, on the contrary, had more freedom. Nevertheless, Situ Xin wasn’t about to waste this opportunity—she might find a use for it someday.

Old Deng thought a moment and then said, "That’s fine, but it must be something within my power to give, and it can’t go against my principles."

Situ Xin, not expecting to gain much from Old Deng, didn’t hesitate to agree. "Alright. But don’t go back on your word, Grandpa Deng." She added one last comment, provoking a mix of laughter and helplessness from Old Deng.

"That’s settled, I always keep my word. Only you would dare to question me," he replied.

Situ Xin rummaged through her bag for quite a while, prompting Old Deng to say, "Girl, you didn’t bring it, did you?"

Though Old Deng thought Situ Xin was searching through her bag, she was actually looking in her space. While she excelled in many areas, organising her belongings was not one of them. If it weren’t for her mother and grandma tidying up her room, it would surely be a mess.

As for the space, since it was just her and Baibai, and Baibai couldn’t tidy up, Situ Xin often found herself unable to locate things.

"Oh, wait a moment, Grandpa Deng. I did bring it, it’s just that my bag is so full. I’m looking for it," Situ Xin said, without lifting her head.

"Alright, alright, I won’t rush you. Take your time," Old Deng said, picking up his cup to sip some tea clearly ready to wait as long as needed.

Old Lady Deng comforted Situ Xin, "Girl, don’t worry. If you didn’t bring it, it’s not a big deal, you can just bring something for your Grandpa Deng next time."

Hearing his wife saying this, Old Deng disagreed. "That won’t do, one thing at a time. You old woman just say that because you’ve got your gift already," he remarked coolly, earning a warning look from his wife.
