The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System -
Chapter 82: DNA Test
Chapter 82: DNA Test
Just as the atmosphere in the international class became subtly awkward because of Maureen and Liam, the Evergreen Class and the Top-Class were not faring much better.
During the last competition quota incident, the entire Evergreen Class had been publicly humiliated.
Until today, they could not even lift their heads when they encountered members of the international class.
The group of Liam’s followers in the international class were unpleasant, always sneering and laughing whenever they ran into them.
They wanted to fight back but had no reason, feeling incredibly stifled.
Furthermore, their class teacher, Mrs. Miller, has offended Professor Logan and was criticized in person.
Her mood has sunk to a low point recently.
Once she entered the classroom, she would pull a long face, her nasolabial folds as harsh as two cleavers, effectively killing any lively conversation.
This resulted in the entire Evergreen class being in deep waters, its suffering unspeakable.
Under these circumstances, the whole class could easily unite against a common enemy.
At first, when the school beauty became Maureen, the people in the Evergreen Class didn’t mind much.
After all, Maureen had always been many times prettier than Bianca, this was an undeniable fact.
But then, Maureen became the likely host for the school anniversary, yet most people in the Evergreen class still remained indifferent, thinking that it didn’t matter who hosted the event...?
However, after experiencing the quota incident, when the entire Evergreen Class’s dignity was trampled and damaged, they could no longer stand by!
Maureen was now seen as part of the International Class, and they began to united hold this grudge against her!
So when the school anniversary program came out, and the Arts Department announced that this year’s host was still Bianca, the whole Evergreen Class let out a sigh of relief, erupting in cheers.
After all, whichever class got the host would have the privilege to perform the finale.
Bianca also sighed in relief, feeling that she had finally regained some ground in this series of events. ...
However, what Bianca and the Evergreen Class did not know was that after she had spoken to her Arts Department teacher that day, the teacher had contacted Maureen again.
But Maureen had flatly refused. So, this opportunity went around in circles, and ultimately fell into Bianca’s hands.
Maureen’s thought process was simple — she couldn’t be bothered to compete with Bianca over these trivial matters.
Focusing on her studies was the sensible approach.
If this were in the past, Maureen might have wanted to put on a performance or something during the school’s anniversary celebration, as the Smith family were all expected to attend.
It would be a chance for her to shine and for her family to see her.
After all, she was once a child full of anticipation, yearning for praise.
But now, Maureen didn’t care about that at all.
Even without the adoration, she was capable of living well on her own.
Apart from those participating in the competition, everyone else in the Evergreen class made a hullabaloo.
They enthusiastically began preparations for this year’s grand finale performance for the school anniversary.
Only two people weren’t as happy.
Harold had thought that this year’s host would be Maureen.
He had quietly looked forward to it for a long time, but he was now informed that it was still going to be Bianca?
What was the difference between this and a fan waiting a long time for their idol’s concert, only to suddenly be told that it has been replaced with a random person at the last minute?
He didn’t even like Bianca.
To him, Bianca was just a random person.
"It’s so annoying," Harold muttered, clutching a gift in his desk drawer that hadn’t been given away.
"Bianca was the host for the past two years.
Aren’t the school leaders tired of it?"
"What are you talking about?!"
Damien, who happened to pass by, heard the conversation, immediately came back and grabbed Harold by the collar, almost starting a fight.
"What’s wrong with Bianca? Bianca is beautiful, if you can’t accept it, just bear with it!"
Harold looked at Damien’s bruised face and thought Damien was a bit of a fool: "You stole your father’s bidding documents for Bianca and threatened your father to the extent of seeking death.
Does Bianca know that you’ve done all this? And even if you did help Bianca successfully, would Bianca remember your kindness in the end?"
As friends, Harold felt the necessity to remind Damien again. But before he could finish his words, Damien interrupted him. "What do you know?
Bianca has agreed to go to the movies with me next weekend."
Damien glanced at the refined back of Bianca sitting in front of them, a happy smile emerging on his face. "At least I have a chance now."
He then mocked Harold, "As for you, it’s just a gift, and you’ve been hemming and hawing for so many days, but never managed to give it."
Harold was depressed: "..." Another person whose mood was not so good was Ann. Her popularity in the Evergreen class was not good at the moment, and only Rachel, who had grown up with her, still talked to her.
But what she couldn’t figure out was why everyone hated her, but no one hated Bianca?
Could it be that no one saw that Bianca was not as kind as she appeared to be?
Ann glanced at Bianca, who was smiling and talking to Damien, then lowered her head to open her stationery box, looking at two palm-sized transparent sealable bags.
Inside the first bag were a few strands of hair she had plucked from the sweater of Chris a few days ago while she was sauntering around the Grade 1 stadium when he was playing basketball.
Ann wasn’t sure if that was Chris’s hair. So to be safe, she spent a few thousand dollars, letting Rachel pretend to have a crush on Chris in order to hand the money over to one of Chris’s basketball teammates.
He was instructed to pull a few strands of hair from Chris’s head during a basketball collision, which were then put into the second sealed bag.
Now, all that was needed was one hair strand from Bianca. Ann was quite meticulous.
These past few days, she was constantly thinking of ways to obtain a hair strand from Bianca.
However, Bianca was now very wary of her.
No matter how carefully Ann approached, she would still be pushed away by Noella.
It was very difficult indeed.
But Ann had not given up.
She always felt that her intuition hadn’t led her astray.
And even if her intuition was wrong and the tested DNA showed that Chris and Bianca were indeed siblings, she wouldn’t have lost anything.
That afternoon, she noticed that Bianca didn’t join Noella and the others for lunch but left the school alone, so she hurriedly followed her.
Bianca seemed to have someone to meet, waiting at a nearby M&G restaurant.
Ann booked another table, hidden behind some green plants, and recognized the woman rushing to see Bianca, a modestly dressed housemaid.
Upon closer inspection, Ann recognized her; it was Mrs Daniel, the housemaid from Bianca’s house – the one who was nicest to her.
Every time Ann visited Bianca before, Mrs Daniel had been very enthusiastic, though only towards Bianca’s friends.
Her attitude towards Maureen was far from pleasant. Now it seemed that Mrs. Daniel had left Smith’s mansion.
Ann saw Bianca handing over a sum of living expenses to Mrs. Daniel.
A thought occurred to Ann and she called a waiter over, passed him several thousand dollars, and whispered something in his ear.
The waiter didn’t understand why this customer would want him to take hair from the table over there, but for a couple of thousand dollars, he was willing to do this easy task.
However, after sending over the hot pot, the waiter got nervous, forgetting whether "that woman" Ann referred to was the young one or the older one.
With no time to ponder, he quietly collected hair from both.
Before Bianca noticed it, Ann got the hair, skipped her meal, and hastily left.
After meeting with Daniel, Bianca returned to school and happened to encounter Noella, who was buying snacks at the supermarket by the school gate.
They walked back together.
"Have you paid your nanny?"
Noella asked with surprise when Bianca mentioned the matter.
"Wasn’t she fired because she spoke ill of Maureen?
In my opinion, an employee who can’t control their own tongue deserves to be fired.
It shouldn’t be a problem to find a new nanny who is efficient in her work—"
Before she had finished speaking, noticing the expression on Bianca’s face, Noella hastily added, "Of course, what I mean is, it wasn’t necessary to be so harsh in firing her.
All she did was criticize Maureen a couple of times. It’s not like she made a huge mistake.
It’s quite pitiful that she was fired just like that."
Bianca said, "That’s why I gave her fifty thousand dollars.
After all, it’s difficult to find work at the end of the year. She was good to me in the past.
When I had a cold, she would make chicken soup for me and stay awake with me until midnight."
"You are too kind-hearted," Noella sighed. "Fifty thousand dollars is enough for her to live without working for half a year.
Be careful not to give her money next time, in case she takes advantage of you."
Bianca’s expression eased a little.
She replied, "Yes, I know." As the two walked past the basketball court, Noella asked again,
"What about the issue with your brother?"
Bianca gave a slight smile. "It’s settled."
