Chapter 116: Maureen is the Real daughter
Chapter 116: Maureen is the Real daughter
The following day, the topic regarding the authenticity of Bianca and Maureen as the real daughter of the Smith family had not died down. Instead, it escalated.
Thankfully, one of the women involved, Bianca, had taken a week off from school. Otherwise, from seniors to freshmen, a large group of people would have definitely come to see what her current feelings are.
And what was incredibly mind-boggling was the reaction of the Evergreen class.
Everyone had snapped back to reality.
"According to Bianca’s dad—no, currently her foster father, according to her foster father’s assistant, their family had already brought Maureen back two years ago.
Moreover, the entire family including Bianca herself was aware that she is not the biological daughter and that Maureen is the true daughter.
Then why was Bianca able to act normally during these two years when we were praising her? Last time when I complimented her on her new bag and said her parents gave her so much pocket money, she did not show any guilt on her face!"
"It’s more than that, didn’t our class also spread a rumor that Maureen was an illegitimate daughter? Bianca heard about this, but she never denied it, did she? Where did such slanderous gossip against Maureen originate from?"
"And there was also the school beauty voting incident that Ann targeted at Maureen, didn’t she say that Bianca was two-faced? However, back then everyone sided with Bianca."
As the girls gossiped, they meticulously brought up even more details. Some of the boys who felt positive about Bianca thought that the girls were being overly sensitive.
But they didn’t speak up because the truth was, Bianca treated the boys purely out of self-interest too — last time when Nolan helped her, he was beaten up by his own father.
Even though the situation ended up failing in the end, she shouldn’t have immediately torn up Nolan’s movie tickets, right?! Leaving him with no face to save?! Nolan had been acting like a pathetic dog from beginning to end, looking lost for several days.
Back then, because Bianca was the daughter of the wealthy Smith family, none of the boys had the ground to accuse her.
They simply thought she might not have done it on purpose, it’s just the arrogance of the rich.
Now, she found it amusing, knowing full well that she was an impostor, yet why did she still act so arrogantly? Ann sighed in relief, hearing the chatter of her female classmates.
Who doesn’t know these two or three girls isolated her, led by Bianca?
No one wanted to pair up with her for English vocabulary practice or meal times. Everyone – girls and boys – except Rachel, wouldn’t talk to her.
Even in PE where they had to form groups for volleyball, no one wanted to pair up with her. When the teacher asked oddly, no one helped her.
Standing awkwardly, gripping her toes, did Bianca ever realize her feelings? Ann took a deep breath and went towards the whispering girls, trying to form their bond back.
She started with a greeting, "What are you guys talking about? May I join?" The girls, seeing her, as they would see a poisonous scorpion, instantly packed up their textbooks and exited the classroom.
Ann: ..... Rats, why?
==========
Liam did not sleep on his desk like his normal routine in the morning.
He wore noise-cancelling earphones, sneaking behind Maureen, browsing the forums.
Liam previously never stepped half a foot into forums, and thought it was a waste of his sleep time.
But since he saw the widespread rumors about Maureen and Richard, he registered an account with a random username on the forum.
He was infuriated but he couldn’t refrain himself from looking at these forums from time to time.
However, the winds seem to be changing recently.
As the interaction between Little Mask and Richard lessened, the amount of gossip about the two of them reduced as well.
Instead, a small group of people had started to gossip about him and Little Mask.
Liam raised his eyebrows, trying hard to suppress his smug expression. He lowered his head and clicked on those posts discussing about him and Little Mask.
He read the speculative comments while the corners of his mouth raised up to his temples. However, as he scrolled through the posts, he started to feel discontented.
Why? It was bad enough that the discussion about him and Little Mask was minimal, even the sparse few posts seemed wilted - like autumn leaves after rain.
Even the speculations and imaginations were not as vivid as those about Little Mask and Richard!
There were many detailed stories and a bunch of combined pictures of Little Mask and Richard, but with him, there were not even a few combined pictures!
This was nonsensical! Before Liam could catch a glimpse of any sugar moment between him and Maureen, he had already got himself boiling mad.
His heart, lungs, and ribs ached. He quickly turned his head and glared at Niel.
Niel was doing his homework, and he was utterly puzzled.
Liam shook his phone. Niel understood, he quickly took out his phone against the pressure from the teacher on the podium and took a look at his WhatsApp.
Liam said, "Look at the forum! There isn’t even one single photo of me and Maureen! Why is that? Am I not more photogenic than that Richard guy?
Why is no one taking pictures of me!" Niel dared not to say that you were secretly photographed by a girl on the first day of school three years ago.
You however, had the picture taken down the next day, and even sent a legal notice warning them.
You scared the girl to tears! It has only been three years, have you forgotten all of this, Liam? Do you even have a brain?
In his heart, Niel could only roar in frustration, outwardly replying earnestly,
"How about I seek an opportunity and take candid shots from a vantage point for you?"
Liam didn’t want to show how satisfied he was with the response, coldly replying devoid of any punctuation,
"You decide."
Niel instantly understood.
’You decide’ meant exactly this: He should immediately contact the forum moderators, clear all the photos of Richard and Maureen that needed to be cleared, and deleted the ones that needed deletion.
If he could forcibly replace them with his and Maureen’s photos, that would be perfect.
Niel grumbled internally, "What’s the difference between this and companies forcing people to ship?"
But Niel didn’t dare to voice his thoughts.
He immediately followed through with the instructions.
After giving Niel tasks to do, Liam turned his attention back to the forum, unable to suppress his fury.
He initiated a battle of wits with those arguing that ’Richard and Maureen were a perfect match’.
"What kind of nonsense are you all spouting?
Maureen has clearly stated she doesn’t like Richard, can’t you understand plain speech???"
Four question marks represented the boiling rage felt by Liam.
When his post was completed, he realized that even though Maureen had indeed stated she didn’t like Richard, not many people were aware of this.
Those people in the forum didn’t know.
No one in the entire school knew.
They all continued to devise scenarios concerning the pair.
Liam turned to glance at Maureen, who was focused on her study, and then continued to look at the photos of the pair in the forum.
The more he thought about it, the more he felt like he was the other man, and an unsuccessful one at that, banging his head trying to be the successful one.
His heart was filled with sourness and a sense of being wronged.
But he couldn’t force her to clarify things in the forum. ... Maureen was busy solving problems when she noticed from the corner of her eye that Liam seemed to be in one of his moods again today.
As soon as he put on his headphones, he ignored everybody and laid his head on the desk, sleeping.
His short, jet-black spiky hair seemed to scream "Let the worthless be destroyed."
Given his tall stature, sleeping in the seat must have been uncomfortable.
Maureen thought she should find a chance to figure out why he often suffered from insomnia.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t ask in the middle of class.
So, Maureen leaned over, whispered carefully: "What’s the matter? Are you upset because you had to get up early and are worried about losing money? I knew it.
I’ll transfer it to you."
Liam: "..." Her breath tickled his ear, making it turn red.
He thought she had something important to say, but instead, she uttered something just as annoying as,
"Does your stomach hurt? Drink more hot water.
I’m going to play a game now."
"Maureen felt that Liam’s mood had worsened.
She scratched her head, contemplating whether she should transfer the money back to him or not. ...
