The Purgatory Calamity -
Chapter 456 - 433: Long Zhan_2
Chapter 456: Chapter 433: Long Zhan_2
Her petite frame visibly trembled.
Her actions made it abundantly clear that she had a deep-seated fear of the Dragon Cave, fear so intense that last time she didn’t even dare let Pang Jian heal her.
She was an outcast among the Demon Race, her Demon Soul naturally powerful, yet her demon body was not as strong as other Great Demons of her level.
The dragon that had inflicted on her a punishment akin to half-lingchi knew her weaknesses all too well, hence it aimed to severely damage her weakest demon body, leaving her unable to recover to this day.
Pang Jian’s self-healing had shown her the possibility of a rapid recovery, prompting her to bring up the past issue again.
"Name your price,"
Pang Jian mused aloud.
"Then, please heal me and help me leave the Saint Spirit Continent," the White Fox whisked by in a nimble dart, transforming into a light rainbow that landed beside Pang Jian.
"I need to heal myself first, then it’s your turn."
"I know, I came here to protect you."
"No need, you’d better stay away from me. When you get this close, I always feel like you’re about to devour my Spiritual Soul. I know it’s just your demon body that’s badly injured; your Demon Soul is still terrifying."
"Sword Tower boy, are you afraid of me?"
"A little."
After a "friendly" exchange.
The White Fox huffed, cold-faced she returned to the dense brushwood and once again assumed the form of a mountain beaver.
...
Half a day later.
Pang Jian, with no apparent skin abnormalities but still with unadjusted internal organs and bones, returned to Black Flame Mountain with a snow-white mongoose in tow.
"Sister, the sooner we leave the Saint Spirit Continent, the better."
Pang Jian flew into the Sword Boat.
"Whoosh!"
The mongoose with visible unhealed scars on its flesh followed him closely and sat down next to him.
The group of people scattered around the Sword Boat, all resting and adjusting their breath, looked at the adorable mongoose in surprise.
"Who is she?" Liou Youyu clutched the Mysterious Heavenly Divine Mirror tightly, her knuckles standing out from the force of her grip.
The slightly introverted miss of the Liu family spoke uneasily, "Is it her?!"
"It’s me."
The White Fox spoke arrogantly with a human voice.
Sitting next to Pang Jian, she even raised a paw clutching a blood-colored beast pupil, saying, "With this thing in my hand, even if your Sword Boat is flying over the Saint Spirit Continent, most Demon Kings can’t find you. This little guy from the Sword Tower asked me to escort you and help you leave the Saint Spirit Continent."
"I reluctantly agreed to his request."
The pretentious White Fox seemed to need some face-saving. She made no mention of Pang Jian healing her or her reliance on the Sword Boat for escape, instead framing it as if Pang Jian had begged her for help.
"This object is mine!" Dong Tianze’s expression turned icy, saying, "It belonged to the subordinates of Demon King Yuan Min, snatched in that sea area."
"Have the guts to ask for it back from Demon King Yuan Min," the White Fox retorted with a cold, sneering grin, her Demon Pupils just as icy, "I took it fair and square with my own skill, do you plan to fight me for it?"
Dong Tianze’s gaze was clouded with dark hesitation as he looked toward Pang Jian.
"Her Demon Soul is undamaged," Pang Jian whispered.
"Forget it, I don’t even know how to use it anyway," Dong Tianze took a deep breath, found a corner to sit down, and closed his eyes pretending not to see the white mongoose.
Then, the Sword Boat ascended into the sky.
"Junior brother, what’s going on?" Hu transmitted her voice through the Sword Command.
"She wants to escape the Saint Spirit Continent, I guess she’s trying to shake off the control of the Dragon Cave and head to the Fragment Land of Northern Qi in the Fourth Realm. The Sword Boat could provide a cover, and that blood-colored beast pupil might even conceal her presence. With the Thunder Dragon awake, closely monitoring the battle of the six great Demon Kings, it won’t pay much attention to her."
"You’re not bringing her along with us to get us all killed, are you?"
"The Dragon Cave isn’t too afraid of the True Gods behind those characters, but she is. Also, I have a feeling she’s even more afraid of our master, so we should be fine."
"Hope so."
Hu remained vigilant throughout the journey, constantly watching the seemingly adorable White Fox Demon King, fearing that the Demon King might suddenly become belligerent.
...
A barren rocky land cracked and parched.
A man clad in a golden robe, with a stern face, bore golden dragon horns on his forehead.
He stood atop a ninth-grade Golden Rock Beast that had not taken on human form but had shrunk its demonic body by hundreds of times. With his fingers sharp as golden swords, he etched deep scars into the flesh of the beast, known for its thick hide.
These scars did not reach the bone yet precisely severed its demonic veins and flesh, impairing the foundation of its Great Tao.
"Emissary of the Bright Heaven Divine Kingdom, since you’ve met with Ice Phoenix, you should have reported to Dragon Cave truthfully."
He looked down into the eyes of the Golden Rock Beast.
Sharing his bloodline and also of the ninth grade, the Golden Rock Beast’s demon pupils were filled with pain and fear as it wailed, "It was too late by the time I knew! Lord Long Zhan, please believe me, by the time I wanted to inform you, the battle between Ice Phoenix and the Double-headed Ghost Spider had already begun!"
"In any case, you were too late."
The gold-clad man known as Long Zhan, licked the corner of his mouth, eyeing the demon heart of this ninth-grade Demon King.
The demon heart of the ninth-grade Golden Rock Beast still held some allure for him, a Golden Dragon.
"Spare my life, great lord!"
The ninth-grade Golden Rock Beast was utterly desperate.
"Forget it, I’ll just take one of your demon pupils. I’ve already consumed three of your kind’s demon hearts in the past few centuries."
Amid the grateful thanks of the Golden Rock Beast, Long Zhan transformed one hand into a golden dragon claw and effortlessly gouged out one of the eyes of the Golden Rock Beast.
With blood oozing from its eye socket, the Golden Rock Beast endured the pain and inner grief, shivering as it fled.
Deep down, it was acutely aware that the three Golden Rock Beasts swallowed by this ninth-grade Golden Dragon were its old predecessors and kin.
But what could it do?
First, the bloodline of its kind, the Golden Rock Beast, was not complete and had not fully manifested.
Second, even with the full burst of its bloodline talent reaching the ninth-grade peak, it lacked the confidence to defeat Long Zhan, who hailed from the Dragon Race of Golden Dragons.
Long Zhan was a sharp weapon of Dragon Cave, with an exceedingly distinguished status among the entire Demon Race.
Among the ninth-grade demons, who dared to be confident they could best Long Zhan?
Even the most senior and deepest-rooted Rock Bear competing for the Demon God’s position might not be able to fight Long Zhan.
The whole clan of Golden Rock Beasts only felt fear towards this Golden Dragon, never daring to entertain thoughts of rebellion.
...
"Eh!"
Below, Long Zhan watched the Sword Boat streak across the sky, a teasing smile playing at his lips, "White Fox, oh White Fox, to think you’d come up with the idea to leave with the Sword Boat. But perhaps you’ve forgotten, that blood-red beast eye of yours has a crack in it and can’t completely conceal your entire aura."
"And the wound I left behind, I can feel it as long as it hasn’t fully healed."
"It’s just, Pu Zhaotian from Sword Tower, he is indeed a bit troublesome."
He stroked his chin, deep in thought.
...
Inside the Sword Boat.
The white marten trembled violently, its voice sharp and piercing, "Long Zhan is below, I can feel it! This thing, this thing has a slash in it, it failed to conceal me!"
Having sensed Long Zhan, the fear of the White Fox Demon King was palpable as it paced back and forth anxiously on cat paws.
Its demon pupils turned black and then white, as if contemplating whether to kneel and beg for Dragon Cave’s forgiveness.
"Long Zhan, is that the dragon who tore through your body?" Pang Jian wondered aloud.
"Yes, him! A ninth-grade Golden Dragon. He’s stronger than the other six Demon Kings currently vying for the position of Demon God!" The White Fox Demon King exclaimed in a panic.
"Then why isn’t he competing for the position of Demon God? If he’s so powerful, wouldn’t Dragon Cave pave the way for him?" Zhou Qingchen inquired.
"It’s because on this Golden Divine Path, there is already a True God from your Human Race. You humans can choose an appropriate and unclaimed Divine Tao for cultivation early on. But as for the Dragon Race, their bloodline attributes are fixed from birth. Long Zhan doesn’t have a choice."
The White Fox turned to Fan Chen, saying, "At the end of that Golden Divine Path stands Fan Ao, a True God from the Taiyi Divine Kingdom. As long as he lives, even if a seat for a Demon God becomes vacant, Long Zhan doesn’t stand a chance at claiming it."
"He tortures me, then goes off to torture someone else, all because he hates that Fan Ao is still alive. An opportunity arose, yet he cannot become a Demon God."
"I’ve already suffered enough at his hands; I just hope he won’t keep fixating on me, that he won’t ambush this Sword Boat mid-journey."
