The Princess of Northern Land
Chapter 656 Allocation (2)_1

Chapter 656: Chapter 656 Allocation (2)_1

"Counselor Mei, you should be wise about your actions. The imperial edict could be issued at any moment. It’s a waste of your talents to keep you stationed in the Northern Land," Lin Haisheng threatened with hidden intent.

A smile remained on Mei Hanqing’s face, but he did not retreat, "Thank you for the compliment, Councillor Lin. However, you’re not the Emperor, it might be a bit early to talk about the imperial mandate."

Just short of open hostility, the two were at loggerheads.

"Counselor Mei." After all the guests from the Prince’s Residence had left, Situ Gong approached Mei Hanqing with a smile, "It seems you have trouble brewing."

"At worst, I lose my official cap," Mei Hanqing responded cheerfully, "If that really happens, Mr. Situ, you better not despise me for my destitution."

"Will you starve if you follow the Prince?" answered Situ Gong, laughing.

The two shared a laugh.

The wedding matron might’ve had the easiest job in the world - she merely played a ceremonial role in the entire wedding process.

"May the Prince and the princess consort love each other forever, share a lifelong affection." As she spoke blessings, the wedding matron tied the hem of Chu Suifeng and Lin Ziyin’s red wedding robes together.

"You can go collect your reward now," Chu Suifeng was pleased.

"Thank you, your highness." Without having done much, she could still receive payment. The wedding matron’s face was radiant with joy.

"You are not needed here tonight," Chu Suifeng dismissed the maids and the grannies in the room.

"Yes, your highness." Qin Granny and the others agreed promptly, with no opposition.

Qiaoqiao hesitated. She was worried that Lin Ziyin might need assistance in the middle of the night.

"Let’s go," Hong Ying knew of her worries, but she knew Chu Suifeng’s resolute nature even better.

She forcefully dragged Qiaoqiao out of the room.

When the room quieted down, Lin Ziyin felt somewhat awkward and shy. She brought up an old matter, "I’m going to freshen up a bit."

"Princess, there’s no immediate need to freshen up. How about we drink the wedding toast first?" Chu Suifeng held back his laughter, earnestly stopping her. Joking aside, their wedding night was not a moment to waste on freshening up. Furthermore, hadn’t she already freshened up in the morning?

Lin Ziyin didn’t know what was expected of newlyweds in the ancient bedroom, so she obediently followed Chu Suifeng’s instructions.

Chu Suifeng poured two small cups of wine, kept one for himself, and handed the other to Lin Ziyin. The couple drank together and as soon as the clear wine entered his stomach, Chu Suifeng threw away his cup and swept Lin Ziyin into his arms.

Lin Ziyin was startled by his sudden move. As she tried to get up, Chu Suifeng had already pushed her onto the bed, "Princess, do you know how long I’ve been waiting for this moment?"

Lin Ziyin looked at him, somewhat dazedly, her face ablush with intoxicating shyness, "Your highness."

"From this day on, I too have a home, a lovely wife. Soon, my residence will be filled with children. Princess, do you know how lonely I’ve been all these years? Do you realize how dreadful it is for me to celebrate festivals alone? With a desolate courtyard, only the butler and Mr. Situ as company and only being able to admire those with families and lovely wives," Chu Suifeng buried his head in her chest. Initially, Lin Ziyin was embarrassed and tried to struggle.

However, as Chu Suifeng’s true feelings unfolded, her heart grew sour. She understood all that Chu Suifeng was saying. She had once been in the same situation, with only her uncle by her side during the festival season, watching others’ homes filled with laughter and joy, she could only enviously stand aside and look on.
