Chapter 469: 468 My Lord, a hug (second update)
Li Xianyun looked toward Tia and was shocked to find that her face was ashen, displaying utter helplessness and confusion, appearing incredibly frightened at the prospect of seeing Yelu Yan.
Could it be that they were enemies?
The moment this thought surfaced, Li Xianyun felt a chill over her heart and quickly said to Bater, "Please ask Master to wait at the doorway for a moment. I will come out shortly."
Li Xianyun’s voice filtered out from the private room, much fainter than before, yet Yelu Yan heard it very clearly, involuntarily furrowing his brow.
If he had not known that Li Xianyun was meeting with a woman, he would have stormed in long ago.
But even though he knew that the woman meeting with Li Xianyun inside was a woman, Yelu Yan still felt somewhat uneasy.
Who could Xianxian be seeing that she would avoid him like this? Could he really be that disreputable?
Li Xianyun took Tia’s hand and asked with concern, "Master, what’s wrong with you?"
Tia clasped Li Xianyun’s hand in return and replied, "Xianxian, I cannot meet with Khan just yet. I know you have many questions, I will explain them to you later."
In Li Xianyun’s memory, Tia was always calm and composed, never once had she seen her so flustered and panicked.
Li Xianyun felt extremely heartbroken and assured her, "Don’t worry, Master, I won’t let him come in."
Tia nodded and said, "Xianxian, since Khan has come to look for you, you should go back with him sooner rather than later."
"But what about you..."
"You don’t need to worry about me. I will return on my own later," Tia patted her hand, adding, "Go on, go back with him, okay?"
Li Xianyun had no choice but to respond, "Alright. Master, which inn are you staying at? I will come to see you off tomorrow."
"There’s no need to bother," Tia stated, "You and I, as master and disciple, are truly fated. We will meet again."
Upon hearing this, Li Xianyun’s eyes, already moist, were instantly brimming with tears, rounded droplets rolled down, wetting her clothes.
Tia felt considerable heartache; this was the disciple she cherished as a daughter.
She pulled Li Xianyun into her embrace, gently patting her slight and tender back, "Be good, Xianxian, don’t cry."
Though Tia said this, her eyes reddened, tear moistening her eyelashes.
She feared she might never meet her dear Xianxian again in this life.
Li Xianyun hugged her back, her voice breaking with sobs, "Master, I really cannot bear to part with you."
Tia spoke soothingly, "Be good, Xianxian, there is no feast that doesn’t end. Today’s farewell is so that we may meet again under better circumstances."
As she spoke, she raised her hand to wipe the tears from her own face and sniffled, waiting until her expression eased a bit before she steadied Li Xianyun’s rounded shoulders and gently pushed her away from her embrace. Lifting her hand, she tidied the hair on Li Xianyun’s forehead and wiped away the tears on her face.
"If you go out looking like this, tear-stained, Khan will think you have been wronged in my company and will surely punish me for it."
Li Xianyun, with a nasal voice, mumbled, "He wouldn’t dare."
Tia laughed and replied, "Your ability to say such a thing shows just how well Khan truly treats you. That puts your Master at ease."
She paused, then added, "Don’t cry anymore, okay? If I knew I would make you cry, I wouldn’t have come to see you at all."
Li Xianyun, upon hearing this, felt as if her heart was being wrung out, an unbearable pain. She called out "Master" and then once again buried herself into Tia’s embrace and began to weep.
Tia tried to smile through tears, "I said that to keep you from crying, yet it seems to have made you even sadder. That was wrong of me. My wish is for Xianxian to be happy every day, without worries or difficulties, and to forever continue on happily."
Upon hearing those words Li Xianyun bit her lip, allowing the tears to fall freely.
Had it not been for the skills Tia had taught her, she might have been harmed countless times by now.
The profound bond between the two of them had long surpassed the simple relationship of master and disciple.
Yelu Yan waited at the doorway for a moment before he heard the door being opened.
Li Xianyun came out and closed the door from the outside.
Yelu Yan walked over, enveloping Li Xianyun’s slender waist, and gazed down at her unwaveringly.
Li Xianyun’s expression remained as usual, but being so closely acquainted and concerned about her, Yelu Yan had still detected something unusual in her slightly reddened eyes—she had been crying.
His tiger-like eyes shimmered with distress.
The woman he had always cared for and cherished, whom he couldn’t bear to see suffer the slightest grievance, let alone shed a single tear, had been brought to tears by someone else.
Who on earth could it be in that room?
Curiosity and resentment brewed in Yelu Yan’s heart.
"Are you alright?" Yelu Yan asked softly, holding her close.
"I’m fine, my lord, let’s go," she responded.
"But..."
Li Xianyun grabbed his robe and looked up at him, "My lord, I’m so tired. Let’s talk in the carriage."
"Alright."
Saying this, Yelu Yan wrapped his arms around Li Xianyun as they headed downstairs.
The carriage was parked in front of the tavern, and as the coachman saw Yelu Yan and Li Xianyun approaching, he quickly set down the steps while another guard in plain clothes opened the door of the carriage.
Yelu Yan helped Li Xianyun into the carriage, then looked up at the private room she had been in.
The window of the room was ajar, with someone peering through the gap toward them.
As Yelu Yan looked up, the window was quickly shut by someone inside.
Yelu Yan exchanged a glance with Jinwu, then took another look at the private room on the second floor.
Jinwu instantly understood and slipped away quietly.
Yelu Yan bent over to enter the carriage and saw Li Xianyun sitting there, deep in thought.
Upon his entry, Li Xianyun extended her arms and smiled, "My lord, hold me."
She clearly didn’t want him to ask too many questions.
Yelu Yan walked over, bent down to embrace her, tightened his arms around her, lifting her to sit beside him, and settled her on his lap. Lowering his head, he planted several firm kisses on her smooth forehead.
"Xianxian, you don’t have to tell your husband about things you don’t want him to know, but you must tell me, who did you meet? Could that person bring any danger to you?"
Li Xianyun tilted her head up to look at him and hesitated before speaking, "I met my teacher just now. She’s very low-key and didn’t wish to meet outsiders, so I didn’t let you in."
Did she not want to meet outsiders, or was there another reason? And what did it mean to spy through a crack in the window?
It was all very suspect.
Yet Yelu Yan maintained his composure and said, "I see, now I’m relieved."
Li Xianyun wrapped her delicate arms around his neck, resting her small head on his robust shoulder, reflecting on what her teacher had said earlier.
Her teacher seemed very concerned about Yelu Yan, even saying he had a difficult fate, which wasn’t something an enemy would say.
If she wasn’t an enemy, there was no need to hide from Yelu Yan.
Unless she was afraid Yelu Yan would recognize her.
She must have an extraordinary relationship with Yelu Yan.
Before, Li Xianyun hadn’t thought much of it, but now, having just met Tia, and then immediately seen Yelu Yan, she suddenly felt there was a slight resemblance between them in their eyes.
Could they be...
This thought caused a pause in Li Xianyun’s heart, followed by an uncontrollable, pounding heartbeat.
