Chapter 341: 340 You’re the Most Annoying (First Update)
Yelu Yan responded haughtily, with a silent huff.
Li Xianyun was busy petting the cat and did not pay much attention.
Afterwards, Yelu Yan said several more things to Li Xianyun, who just responded with noncommittal "Mm-hmms" or briefly with a few words; sometimes she would look at him with a clueless expression, "Husband, what did you just say?"
At this moment, there was none of the sweet affection that was present between the sheets; once used, she’d discard him, put on her clothes, and act as if she didn’t recognize him, which was infuriating to no end.
Yelu Yan could foresee with a sinking heart what it would look like if Li Xianyun ever fell out of love one day.
It angered him so much that he really wanted to give the damn cat away.
But he ultimately held back.
His woman would act fiercely adorable when angry, which was cute, but if she genuinely got mad, no amount of coaxing would catch her attention, and it was enough to drive him crazy.
Yelu Yan thought that once the meal was served, Li Xianyun would put down the kitten and accompany him.
But to his dismay, faced with a table full of dishes, Li Xianyun still didn’t put down the kitten.
Li Xianyun looked down at the kitten in her arms and cooed, "Xueqiu, what do you want to eat, huh? Should sister get you a chicken leg, would that be nice?"
Watching Li Xianyun pick up her chopsticks to grab a chicken leg, Yelu Yan finally lost his patience, reached out with a broad hand, snatched Xiaobai from her grasp, and held the kitten’s belly up high in his hand.
This Xiaobai was opportunistic around people.
In the Khan Palace, it only refrained from showing claws to two individuals: one was Li Xianyun, and the other was Yelu Yan.
The former it genuinely liked, the latter it was truly scared of.
A few days ago, Li Xianyun had just returned from Tianshui County when Yelu Yan made time to visit her while attending court.
Li Xianyun was on the bed teasing the cat and, seeing Yelu Yan returning, she intended to pretend to sleep to tease him, so she hid Xiaobai beneath the bed’s blankets.
To her surprise, the kitten was so frightened that it hid and didn’t come out for a long time.
It wasn’t until Yelu Yan and Li Xianyun left that it emerged begrudgingly, meowing persistently, as if to complain and air its grievances.
Whenever Yelu Yan appeared in the Khan Palace, Xiaobai would scurry into Li Xianyun’s embrace.
If Li Xianyun wasn’t there, Yelu Yan could bully it however he wished.
Whether by nudging it with his foot or indulging in his mean streak and pushing it over so it fell flat like a dog eating mud, Xiaobai didn’t dare make a sound.
But as soon as Li Xianyun’s footsteps approached, the kitten would become emboldened, run to her side, and snuggle in her tender embrace, meowing defiantly at Yelu Yan.
There’s a saying, "A dog relies on its owner’s power," and it seems cats are no different.
Startled by the sudden snatching, Li Xianyun cried out, "My Xueqiu."
As she spoke, she grabbed Yelu Yan’s lapels to try and take it back, and the man took the opportunity to wrap his arms around her soft little body, holding his hand—and Xiaobai—high above.
No matter how much Li Xianyun reached, she couldn’t get to it.
Yelu Yan looked down at Li Xianyun and complained, "All day it’s ’my Xueqiu,’ ’my Xueqiu,’ why don’t I hear you say ’my husband’ just as much?"
Li Xianyun cooed, "Husband, give it back."
"No, eat your meal nicely."
"I can eat nicely while holding the kitten."
"No, you cannot."
Seeing she really couldn’t snatch it back, Li Xianyun lay on his chest, gently tapping his rock-hard torso, and complained sweetly, "Ouch, you even get jealous over a cat, give it back to me, quick."
This man was truly overbearing; every time he came back, Xiaobai couldn’t stay with her or remain in the inner chamber.
It was as if the kitten bore some unspeakable grudge against him.
Yelu Yan, holding Li Xianyun, instructed a maid, "Take it away."
Immediately, a maid hurried forward to carry Xiaobai out.
Li Xianyun, flushed with anger, pounded his chest several times and exclaimed, "Ah, you’re so annoying!"
Yelu Yan cradled her in his arms, allowing her to flail and vent her frustration, the corners of his lips constantly curled in amusement.
He adored every frown and smile of hers.
Li Xianyun’s punches were weak, and without much force, leaving Yelu Yan feeling as if he was being tickled rather than hit.
It didn’t hurt him; on the contrary, he found it pleasing.
Yelu Yan loved the sight of Li Xianyun throwing a tantrum at him, so vibrant and endearing.
After Li Xianyun had unleashed quite the temper, she shot him a sidelong glare with her beautiful eyes and sat in his embrace, pouting and petulantly kicking her little feet.
Yelu Yan’s eyes were filled with laughter. He picked up her small hand, saw it was a bit red, and blew on it gently before planting a light kiss, "Did your hand get hurt from the hitting?"
"You... you’re so annoying!"
Li Xianyun didn’t want to deal with him and simply turned her face away, but the corners of her mouth couldn’t help but curl up into a smile.
Yelu Yan leaned in and planted a firm kiss on her cheek, saying with a chuckle, "If you want to smile, just smile. Why hold it in?"
Li Xianyun continued to face away from him, her mouth curving upward, "Who says I’m smiling?"
"Is that so? Then turn around."
Yelu Yan spoke as he reached out to turn her delicate and soft shoulders toward him.
Li Xianyun raised her hand to push his away but was unable to succeed; despite her struggle, he managed to turn her around.
She was indeed smiling.
Embarrassed and slightly angry, Li Xianyun buried her small face in his broad chest, gripping his robes with her little hands, refusing to let him see her expression as she protested in a tender voice, "You’re the most annoying."
Yelu Yan responded with a hum, his hand gently stroking her beautiful back as he chuckled, "Your husband has been banished to the Cold Palace by you, and yet you call him annoying."
"You’re talking nonsense."
Yelu Yan chuckled, "Then tell me, what did your husband just say to you?"
"..."
"Your husband said he wants to take you hunting, and you ignored it entirely. When asked what you did today, you just mumbled an ’uh-huh’ while playing with the kitten and didn’t listen to a word I said afterward. You treat that little cat as if it’s gold, but when it comes to your husband, you’re indifferent, giving nonchalant responses. A fair measure is expected, but your favoritism knows no bounds. How could I not be jealous of that stinky cat? It’s all your fault."
While speaking, Yelu Yan gently pinched Li Xianyun’s slightly chubby cheeks.
Li Xianyun sat up straight, massaging her pinched rosy cheeks, "That’s not true. In my heart, my husband is the most important."
"A woman’s mouth, a liar’s sanctum, always knows how to sweet-talk."
Li Xianyun was completely tickled by him. Label him rigid and without flair, but sometimes his unconventional words could really lift the spirits.
"I’m truly not trying to flatter you."
Li Xianyun’s laughter made her eyes nearly disappear into thin lines, her lashes seemingly becoming longer and fuller, her whole being delicate as a flower, unable to hide her grace.
"Then send that stinky cat away."
"No. If you even think about sending Xiaobai away, I won’t talk to you again."
Yelu Yan planted another solid kiss on her soft cheek, chuckling, "Alright, alright, whatever you say."
As he spoke, he looked toward the door, "Someone, come clean our hands."
Having seen Yelu Yan embracing Li Xianyun, Youlan had tactfully led the maids out earlier.
Seeing someone enter, Li Xianyun struggled, wanting to get down.
But Yelu Yan held her in his arms, not letting her go, "What are you afraid of?"
Li Xianyun wanted to say something, but in the next moment, the maid came in carrying a basin and a washcloth.
She had no choice but to sit obediently in Yelu Yan’s embrace.
After the two of them had their hands cleaned, the maids retreated as usual, stationed at the door.
In the vast hall, only Yelu Yan and Li Xianyun remained.
