Chapter 262: 262 What do you take your husband for? (First update)
Li Xianyun suddenly took an interest and sweetly smiled as she encircled Yelu Yan’s neck, "Husband, then tell me, what did you feel when you first saw me?"
"Not annoying," Yelu Yan replied candidly.
Not being annoying was already the highest praise he could give to a woman.
Li Xianyun’s eyes curved into a smile, "Husband, you really aren’t good at making people happy."
Yelu Yan was taken aback. He had honed his mettle in the military, rough and rugged throughout, not at all like those gentlemen from the noble families of Houtang who had been nurtured in literature and ink.
"Then what should your husband have said?"
"You should have said, ’When I first saw you, I was struck by your beauty, hopelessly falling in love...’"
Li Xianyun began in all seriousness, but as she continued, she couldn’t go on. She rested her head on Yelu Yan’s shoulder and let out a light laugh.
Yelu Yan laughed along, "Is your husband too clumsy with words?"
"Not too bad. You’re quite good at kissing."
As soon as Li Xianyun said this, she regretted it. She was afraid of Yelu Yan’s impulsive nature, yet sometimes she would still recklessly rush in like a moth to a flame.
She flicked her leg and held Yelu Yan’s neck tighter, her smooth forehead resting against his taut jawline, bashful and enduring, "Husband, you didn’t hear anything, right?"
Yelu Yan laughed heartily, about to speak, but Li Xianyun placed her hand over his lips, her face blushing as she looked at him, "You’re not allowed to speak."
Yelu Yan kissed her palm, still smiling.
Li Xianyun felt ticklish and pulled her hand away.
In Yelu Yan’s dark eyes, it seemed as though flames were burning, "If the lady praises, your husband should indeed strive to do even better."
As Yelu Yan lowered his head, Li Xianyun pushed against his handsome face, "Husband, what are you saying? I don’t understand at all."
Yelu Yan took her hand away and looked into her watery eyes with a smile, "You don’t need to understand; it’s enough that your husband does."
His gaze fell upon her tender, moist lips, full of indescribable desire.
"Open up," Yelu Yan coaxed her.
Li Xianyun pursed her lips, the corners of her eyes lifted with a hint of amusement as she shook her head.
Yelu Yan kissed her cheek, "If you’re obedient, your husband won’t do anything, and let you rest."
So, he was aware that he had been wearing her out these past few days.
After hesitating for a moment, Li Xianyun slightly parted her soft lips.
Yelu Yan kissed her with a smile, her lips soft and inviting, never enough for one who tasted them.
He had intended to stop at a light tasting, but he soon lost control.
Kindling and fire are never meant to be together; trouble is bound to arise.
Fortunately, the Border Market arrived soon. Li Xianyun straightened her disheveled clothes and looked at Yelu Yan, "Husband, do you really want to come with me?"
Yelu Yan helped her tidy her clothes, affirming with a firm "Mm," "Your husband won’t speak, just watch from the side."
"Alright then," Li Xianyun sighed softly and cautioned, "But the physician must check the pulse anyway, so don’t be jealous."
Yelu Yan finished tidying her clothes and lowered his head to fix his own, laughing as he said, "What do you take your husband for? You underestimate me."
Li Xianyun’s smile lingered on her lips, saying nothing.
He was possessive without realizing it.
Li Xianyun entered Xingfang Restaurant, followed by Yelu Yan and Youlan.
She asked Zhuo Ma and Bater to stand guard outside, reasoning that if too many people entered at once, it would look more like a brawl than a medical visit.
The shopkeeper hurriedly greeted Li Xianyun upon her arrival, "Young Master, did you come to give a diagnosis to the Family Head?"
"Yes."
The shopkeeper smiled, "Right this way, please."
His gaze fell on Yelu Yan. The man was tall and burly, with sword-like eyebrows and starry eyes, exuding an extraordinary presence that marked him as no ordinary person.
Unable to resist, the shopkeeper asked, "And this gentleman is?"
Li Xianyun said with a smile, "This is my distant relative’s elder brother, who came to help out as he had nothing particular to do."
Yelu Yan, with his noble bearing, would hardly be believed to be a servant, so it seemed best to say he was her own elder brother.
The shopkeeper understood and said with a beaming smile, "The young master’s elder brother is truly a distinguished-looking talent."
Li Xianyun replied modestly, "He’s alright."
"This way, young master, the family head has been waiting for you for quite some time."
Li Xianyun was puzzled; she hadn’t mentioned she would be revisiting, and this time she came because she was returning to Shangjing the next day and wanted to see how his recovery was progressing.
The shopkeeper was a man of tact and could easily understand what Li Xianyun was thinking, thus he said with a smile, "Young master might not be aware, but ever since you left, our family head has been longing to thank you, eagerly awaiting your arrival each day."
Li Xianyun’s lips curved in a smile, "The family head is kindhearted."
Behind her, Yelu Yan gazed at her intently.
This woman had many facets, coquettish and utterly gentle in front of him, yet meticulous and serious about her work; no matter which aspect it was, it touched the core of his heart.
Every frown and smile of hers tugged at his heartstrings.
They ascended the stairs and reached the innermost room on the second floor, where the shopkeeper, just like before, announced at the door, "Family head, the young master has arrived."
There came a rustling sound from within, "Just a moment."
After a short while, a voice from inside said, "Come in."
The shopkeeper opened the door and let Li Xianyun enter first.
Naturally, Yelu Yan and Youlan were to follow her in.
Upon entering the room, Li Xianyun smelled a pleasant fragrance; she had noticed on her last visit that the head of Xingfang Restaurant liked to burn incense.
However, Yelu Yan’s brows furrowed, thinking that burning incense was usually something only women enjoyed.
Youlan noticed that the curtains had been drawn and the windows were open; the room was more pleasing than the dim ambience of their last visit.
They saw Bai Di standing by the guest table, where a white porcelain vase held a pink lotus, with an incense burner beside it, emitting whiffs of white smoke that fragranced the room.
Bai Di gestured to Li Xianyun, "Please, young master, take a seat."
Li Xianyun sat down with a smile.
Bai Di took the seat across from her.
Li Xianyun looked at the lotus in the white vase and asked, "Do you also like lotuses?"
Bai Di replied with a smile, "There’s no gentleman who doesn’t admire the lotus."
Li Xianyun said with a smile, "The fragrance of osmanthus is nice, but you’re still recovering. It’s better not to inhale too much incense."
A look of surprised delight spread across Bai Di’s face, "You know about fragrances too?"
"I know a little bit," she replied modestly.
"You’re being too modest, young master. Not everyone can recognize the subtle elegance of the osmanthus fragrance."
Li Xianyun responded with an ambiguous smile.
Daughters of Houtang enjoyed burning incense and scenting their clothes, so women generally had some knowledge of fragrances, although Li Xianyun, as a physician, knew considerably more.
The fragrances she studied were mostly those that could bewilder the mind, used for dealing with adversaries.
After speaking, Bai Di instructed the incense burner to be removed.
Li Xianyun was quite satisfied with such a compliant patient.
She asked Bai Di to tilt his head back so she could take a close look at his wound and said with a smile, "The healing seems quite good. Any discomfort?"
"When the medicine is applied, the wound stings a bit, but that’s all," he replied.
Yelu Yan’s tiger-like eyes held a deep shadow; this man did indeed make a fuss over everything.
Li Xianyun reassured him, "All of that is normal."
She looked toward Youlan.
Understanding, Youlan brought over the medicine box.
