Chapter 171: 171 Can you curse the woman of this Crown Prince? (Second update)
Murong Ce placed a hand to his mouth, making a gesture for silence.
Among the four people tied to the pillars, three no longer made any sound, but the small boy, only four or five years old, had seen his grandfather die a horrible death and his father get his eye stabbed out, blood flowing freely. He had long been scared out of his wits.
He used all his strength to scream as though his heart were tearing and his lungs were splitting.
His young and shrill voice filled the vast chamber.
Murong Ce closed his beautiful, phoenix-like eyes briefly in annoyance at the noise.
He grabbed a dart from the table and swiftly threw it.
The small boy was killed instantly, the dart piercing his throat.
"Ah—Ah—"
The family members screamed, especially the boy’s mother, who glared at Murong Ce with venom as she desperately yelled, "You’re a beast, you won’t die a good death, your wife and children will not die a good death either... Oh..."
Another dart shot out swiftly, and the poor mother could no longer utter a sound, dying in the same way as her son.
Murong Ce’s expression stiffened upon hearing the words "wife and children," and he threw a dart, "Is my woman someone you can curse?"
In an instant, only three remained from a family of six.
The official, enduring the severe pain in his body and the extreme grief in his heart, crawled on the ground and trembled as he pleaded, "Please... spare... spare... my mother... and... my daughter..."
Murong Ce’s mouth curved in a warm, innocent smile, "I too wish to spare them, but you stabbed the wrong eye, so you can only blame yourself, not this Crown Prince."
The official was stunned, as Murong Ce had merely thrown a dagger onto the ground earlier without specifying which eye to stab.
Seeing Murong Ce pick up another dart.
The official frantically groped for the dagger on the ground, "Okay, I will stab my right eye, I will stab my right eye, just don’t hurt them, don’t hurt them..."
He hastily grasped the dagger and thrust it fiercely into his right eye, the sharp pain penetrating his heart, and ultimately, he fainted from the agony.
Murong Ce chuckled, his laugh as demonic as ever, "What to do? I dislike people who act on their own accord the most."
His hand released a dart, which struck the white-haired mother of the official, killing her instantly.
Murong Ce played with the dart in his hand, staring at the woman on the pillar who had been scared into a daze.
His thoughts were always inscrutable; no one knew what he was planning.
A guard mustered the courage to step forward, kneeling and cupping his hands in submission, "Your Highness, could you perhaps show mercy? This woman has some beauty; why not keep her for the brothers to enjoy? After that, it wouldn’t be too late to kill her."
In the past, whenever Murong Ce captured female relatives, he would do just this, using them to reward the guards and assassins, so the guard didn’t think there was anything inappropriate about his suggestion.
Murong Ce chuckled, "Do you want her?"
Whenever Murong Ce laughed, nothing good ever happened, and the guard turned pale with fear, "No, I don’t want her..."
Murong Ce stood up and walked outwards, glancing at the Guard Captain on his way.
The Guard Captain bowed respectfully.
The guard knocked his head on the ground, begging for mercy, "Your Highness, spare me, Your Highness spare me! Your Highness..."
Suddenly, a sharp, pointed knife pressed against his neck from behind.
The Guard Captain walked in front of him, still holding the knife to his throat.
The guard was in tears, "Sir, please consider my loyal service and ask His Highness to spare me this once."
The Guard Captain sneered, "Haven’t you seen who that woman resembles? Whose swan meat do you dare to eat? You’re truly courting death."
Only then did the guard realize, "The woman’s features resemble... oh..."
Wiping the blade’s tip, the guard’s neck burst forth with gushing blood, and he fell to the ground heavily. He convulsed on the ground and in no time at all, he was dead.
After dealing with these matters, a guard came forward, "My lord, what should we do with this woman?"
The Guard Captain glanced at him sideways, "Of course, we should keep her well-guarded, don’t let her commit suicide. If anything happens to her, no one in this room will live to see another day."
The guards were panic-stricken and bowed respectfully, "Yes, sir!"
Murong Ce emerged from the hidden chamber, which led to his study. The entrance to the chamber was a small pattern at the lowest part of the desk; pressing it would open two rows of bookshelves.
After entering and passing through four or five doors, then descending a flight of stairs about a hundred or so meters, and walking through a long corridor, one would arrive at the secret chamber.
Although Murong Ce was cruel and ruthless, he was extremely careful and full of strategic cunning. This was why he had gone from being the least favored prince to the Crown Prince, and why he was now only one step away from ascending to the throne.
Not long after returning to his study, Wei Zhong respectfully greeted him outside the door, "Your Highness, there is news from Khitan."
Murong Ce looked toward the door, "Come in."
Wei Zhong entered respectfully and handed him a letter.
Murong Ce opened it and read while Wei Zhong watched him anxiously, awaiting the arrival of a tempestuous rage.
The Crown Prince was always very stable in mood, always wearing the warmest of smiles and seldom angry, for those who incited his anger basically didn’t live to see the next day.
But there was one exception; not only was that person quite alive, but she always managed to infuriate Murong Ce.
After reading the letter, Murong Ce’s mouth curled up with a hint of a smile. He stuffed the letter back into the envelope and casually tossed it onto the desk.
Wei Zhong watched Murong Ce in surprise, but dared not ask.
Murong Ce was merciless in killing, and even those who had served him for many years could fall victim to his wrath in a moment of anger.
Leaning back on the Taishi Chair, Murong Ce looked at Wei Zhong in a relaxed manner, "Do you want to ask why this Crown Prince isn’t angry?"
Wei Zhong respectfully bowed, "This subordinate dares not."
Murong Ce spoke evenly, a smile playing on his lips, "For a while, I have been unable to learn about Xianxian’s every move in Khitan. But now, I can easily find out the news. Why do you think that is?"
Wei Zhong was puzzled, "Why?"
"The dearth of messages was because someone deliberately blocked them, and their transmission now is because someone wants to get the news to this Crown Prince’s ears."
"Who is this person, and what does he want?" Wei Zhong asked, deviating from his usual reticence.
"In Khitan, the only one capable of covering the sky with one hand, apart from Yelu Yan, who else could there be? As for why he would block the news and then release it, if this Crown Prince is not mistaken, he must have fallen for Xianxian. He wants me to know that Xianxian is his woman, that if I continue to cling to Xianxian, I will be his enemy."
Xianxian was likable, and Murong Ce knew it was only a matter of time before Yelu Yan would take a liking to her, only he hadn’t expected it to happen so quickly.
Wei Zhong furrowed his brows, "This complicates things."
Murong Ce looked at him, his smile deepening, "How so?"
In a flurry, Wei Zhong knelt to the ground and bowed deeply, "Your Highness, please forgive my presumption."
"Xianxian won’t have feelings for him, and I’m confident that she hasn’t told Yelu Yan about her and me. This means they haven’t shared their hearts," Murong Ce paused, "I know I pressed her too hard, and she became afraid, so she distanced herself from me. It’s alright, I’ll let her go out to clear her mind. One day, she will return to my side, and she must return to my side."
