Chapter 145: 145 Khan, how did you come here? (Second update)
The shopkeeper looked at Li Xianyun and said, "Young master, please follow me."
Li Xianyun replied, "Tell that guest that something urgent has come up and I must leave first. I will thank him another day."
Saying "another day" was essentially an excuse.
The only person she knew in Khitan was Yuchi Qian, and it was impossible for Yuchi Qian to come to a tavern so late.
Li Xianyun faintly sensed that the noble guest the shopkeeper mentioned might be the Ninth Prince, Yelu Qi.
If she were to encounter Yelu Qi in the tavern, how would she explain it to Yelu Yan once the news spread?
Too many mouths can melt metal; she feared she could jump into the Yellow River and still not clear herself.
Moreover, taking ten thousand steps back, even if it wasn’t the Ninth Prince but someone else she didn’t know, the arrangement of a private room was also calculated, a veritable trap.
She certainly did not want to go up.
She couldn’t cause trouble for Yelu Yan.
Seeing Li Xianyun turning to leave, the shopkeeper hurriedly went up to stop her.
"Young master, please wait."
The guest upstairs had a dignified and restrained air that clearly revealed an extraordinary identity.
The shopkeeper was eager to do a good job with the task entrusted to him, to curry favor with the esteemed guest.
Just as his hand was about to touch Li Xianyun’s clothes, Bater quickly stepped forward and grabbed his wrist.
"Don’t be disrespectful," Bater said coldly in reproof.
His grip was very strong, causing the shopkeeper to feel like his wrist was about to break.
Wincing with pain, the shopkeeper said, "If you have something to say, please say it politely, please say it politely."
Bater said coldly, "Now, may we leave?"
"Yes, yes, of course."
The shopkeeper nodded his head like a pounding garlic.
Bater then let go of him.
Just as the group was preparing to leave, someone urgently called out from behind, "Young master, please wait."
Such a familiar voice.
Li Xianyun turned her head and immediately spotted Jinwu.
Jinwu hurried down from the stairwell and came directly to Li Xianyun, saying, "Young master, the master is waiting for you upstairs."
Yelu Yan had come?
Wasn’t he supposed to be very busy? How could he afford the leisure to dine in a tavern?
Li Xianyun followed Jinwu upstairs to the most secluded Tianzi Number One private room on the second floor.
Several familiar guards stood watch at the door.
They were all dressed in the garb of ordinary household servants.
Seeing Li Xianyun ascend, the guards bowed their arms in salute one after another.
Two of the guards opened the doors to the private room from the outside.
As Li Xianyun approached the doorway, she saw a tall screen painted with patterns characteristic of the Khitan ethnicity.
She hesitated for a moment, then peered around the screen; instantly, she saw Yelu Yan sitting at the table, watching her with a smile.
In his hand was a book, and in front of him on the table were a teapot and a cup.
Yelu Yan found it amusing and charming that Li Xianyun only revealed a small head.
He placed his book on the desk, smiled, and said to Li Xianyun, "Why stand there? Come and sit."
Li Xianyun obediently walked out from behind the screen, came to Yelu Yan with her hands behind her back, and asked, "Khan, what brings you here?"
Yelu Yan did not answer, but pulled the chair beside him slightly away and looked at her with a smile, saying, "Why haven’t you returned to the palace now that it’s dark?"
Li Xianyun smiled coyly and replied, "The matter I attended to just now wasn’t finished, so I was delayed a little while."
Looking at her, Yelu Yan said, "Have a seat."
"Mm."
As soon as she sat down, Yelu Yan took a cup from the tray, poured half a cup of water, and shook the cup lightly.
Li Xianyun watched his slender fingers.
They were well-defined, without an ounce of excess flesh on his hands, and though there was a thin callus at the base of his thumb, it did not detract from the attractiveness of his hands.
She had never seen such beautiful hands before.
She even felt the urge to reach out and touch them.
As soon as the thought emerged, Li Xianyun was taken aback, indeed, she had the potential to be a flirtatious woman.
Yelu Yan poured the water he used to clean the cup into a basin and filled a cup of water, handing it to Li Xianyun.
Li Xianyun took the cup and said, "Thank you."
She held the cup with her two pale, delicate hands and took a sip with her head bowed.
The water was warm, at just the right temperature.
Yelu Yan watched her adorable and delicate appearance, smiling as he said, "Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
"Roasted buns," Li Xianyun replied with a smile.
Of all the Khitan food, Li Xianyun loved roasted buns the most.
The skin of the roasted buns was toasted to a golden brown, crunchy to eat, and the filling was said to be made from the meat of sheep’s tails.
Logically, it should have been quite greasy, but somehow the Khitan people prepared it in a way that it was aromatic yet not greasy at all.
Yelu Yan looked at her with a smile, eyes full of indulgence, and said, "You eat roasted buns every time, don’t you get tired of them?"
"Not really," Li Xianyun replied with a smile.
Yelu Yan said quietly to someone outside, "Call the waiter over."
Immediately, a voice from outside responded, "Yes."
Before long, the shopkeeper came in person.
Yelu Yan leaned back in his chair, at the same time draping his strong arm over the back of Li Xianyun’s chair.
The two of them shared an indescribable intimacy.
It seemed to the shopkeeper as though he had stumbled upon a shocking secret.
Both were exceedingly good-looking, the finest among men; he had not expected them to be same-sex lovers.
What a pity it was.
Holding back the storm in his heart, the shopkeeper respectfully asked, "Distinguished guests, may I have your orders?"
In a calm voice, Yelu Yan inquired, "Does your tavern have any special dishes?"
The shopkeeper listed all the specialties of the tavern.
Yelu Yan turned his head toward Li Xianyun and asked, "Do you see anything you’d like to eat?"
The shopkeeper stared at Yelu Yan, shocked.
The noble customer, who had seemed so cold and unapproachable, was unexpectedly tender with the young lord in his arms.
This only confirmed the shopkeeper’s suspicions, and he couldn’t help but feel sorry again.
Li Xianyun saw the astonished look on the shopkeeper’s face and realized he had misunderstood their relationship.
She ordered a few dishes that sounded unfamiliar, wanting to try what they tasted like.
After ordering, Li Xianyun turned to Yelu Yan and said, "Husband, do you want anything?"
She disliked being misunderstood, so she decided to clarify their relationship.
As expected, upon hearing this, the shopkeeper appeared to have an epiphany.
Yelu Yan looked at her with a smile and said, "Let’s start with these, and we can order more if it’s not enough."
Li Xianyun replied with a smile, "Hmm."
Yelu Yan gave her a doting glance and told the shopkeeper, "Serve the dishes as my wife has ordered."
"Yes."
The shopkeeper respectfully retreated.
After drinking one cup of water, Li Xianyun was still not quenched, so she reached for the water jug.
But the water jug was taken away by someone.
Yelu Yan poured her another cup of water and handed it to her.
Li Xianyun quickly drank it dry and passed the cup back to Yelu Yan, smiling, "I’d like another cup."
"How can you be so thirsty?"
While speaking, Yelu Yan poured her another cup of water.
Li Xianyun took a sip and said, "I had a lot of things to do today and forgot to drink water while I was busy."
