Chapter 900: Chapter 611: After Susu Clings to Grandma and Won’t Let Go... Finally Meeting
Jun Moqing said, "Take five of each of what she wants to pack, then take one more of each and pack them separately."
When a small pack of pastries was placed in Susu’s shoulder bag, her smile created crescents in her eyes. She fumbled with her bag with one hand while the other reached inside; when it emerged, it held a lotus-shaped pastry.
Watching Susu’s greedy enjoyment of the treats, Jun Moqing took her hand and led her out of the Pastry Shop.
Xue Huai carried the pastries and paid with silver.
Susu took a bite of the teaguozi and looked up at Jun Moqing with her small face, "Grandfather, are we going to find Grandma next?"
Jun Moqing looked down at Susu, her cheeks bulging with teaguozi as she spoke, her soft cheeks puffing cutely.
Despite her young age, Susu even knew he was out looking for someone.
"Hmm, let’s try our luck," he murmured.
Susu consoled him in a grown-up tone, "Grandfather, don’t worry, we’ll definitely find Grandma. When we do, I’ll ask her if she wants to be my grandma. Grandfather is very handsome and super impressive, she won’t be deceived."
Jun Moqing was comforted by Susu’s words, even though they were stammered and some words not quite clear.
But that last sentence...would it not scare her off?
"Susu is right, we’re sure to meet her," he assured.
Susu laughed joyfully twice, quickly finished the half-eaten teaguozi in her hand, and even licked the crumbs off her fingers before happily clapping her tiny hands.
The street was filled with food vendors, and being the little foodie she was, the aroma of meat patties lured Susu to drag Jun Moqing toward the stall.
Reaching the stall, Susu stood on tiptoe to peer over, recognizing the smell of her beloved meat patties which she had eaten many times before.
"Smells delicious."
Seeing Susu’s craving expression, Jun Moqing said, "Take four, pack three."
"Alrighty."
The stall owner quickly took a dry lotus leaf, placed three patties on it, wrapped them up, and tied them with straw rope. Then he took half a leaf, placed a meat patty on it, wrapped it, and handed it cheerfully to the tiptoeing, doughy dumpling.
"Little miss, be careful not to drop it."
"Thank you, uncle," Susu replied happily, taking the freshly-baked, crispy meat patty. Biting into it, a lot of crumbs fell.
The stall owner smiled, "Such a cute girl, and so polite too."
Jun Moqing looked down at Susu, fully engrossed with her meat patty; his granddaughter was of course adorable and well-mannered.
Meanwhile, in the East Palace
With the Emperor having just recovered from a serious illness and convalescing in Yangxin Hall, state affairs were handed over to Xiao Jinyan. It was his first time truly dealing with national matters as Crown Prince, albeit temporarily, and it gave him a sense of immense responsibility.
Being Emperor was no easy task, and to become a wise ruler was even more challenging.
Xiao Jinyan had always aspired to be a wise ruler, to lead Daxia into a more prosperous and glorious era, to prove his abilities through his strength.
Just as he had once competed for the position of Crown Prince, he wanted his father, the Emperor, to see his capabilities and acknowledge his worth.
At that moment, Qin Xiao walked in through the door.
Xiao Jinyan, hearing the sound, looked up and saw Qin Xiao. Qin Xiao would not come in on his own unless there was something important.
"What’s the matter?" he asked.
Qin Xiao walked forward a few steps, kneeled on one knee, and saluted, "Master."
Xiao Jinyan’s gaze paused; if it weren’t a major issue, Qin Xiao wouldn’t suddenly pay such respects.
"You have been with me for ten years. Speak freely about what’s on your mind."
Without further hesitation, Qin Xiao said, "I would like to ask the Master to grant me permission to marry."
Xiao Jinyan was surprised. The usually straightforward Qin Xiao, akin to a piece of wood, wished to marry?
Then he reflected that Qin Xiao had indeed been with him for a decade, and he was unaware of such intentions from Qin Xiao.
It was natural for men of a certain age to marry, and for women to wed; these matters should have been considered in advance. He had been negligent.
Curious, he asked, "Whom have you taken a liking to?"
Qin Xiao, slightly embarrassed, replied, "To answer the Master, it’s Chun Xi from Hehuan Hall."
"I should have guessed it would be someone from Hehuan Hall. Chun Xi is a clever girl, and her appearance is agreeable; she is well-matched with you," Xiao Jinyan added. "Is this your own idea, or have you already discussed it with Chun Xi and merely want me to play matchmaker?"
Qin Xiao replied, "I’ve already spoken to Chun Xi about this, and she has agreed. I would like the Master to act as matchmaker."
Xiao Jinyan nodded, satisfied that Qin Xiao was not being rash.
"Very well, you are not young anymore; it is time to marry and start a family. I will act as your matchmaker."
