Chapter 714: Chapter 543: Feeling Shy After Being Caught, He Protected Her Well

Having just woken up, Shen Chuwei was somewhat groggy, her attention captured by the aroma of the food because she was hungry by then.

Meeting Xiao Jinyan’s gaze, she was taken aback for a moment and then shook her head, "I slept pretty well."

Xiao Jinyan then asked, "You can fall asleep even while riding a horse?"

After thinking for a while, Shen Chuwei explained, "Spring drowsiness, autumn fatigue, perhaps it’s easier to feel sleepy in the fall causing this."

"It’s too dangerous to sleep on horseback," Xiao Jinyan said, deliberately stressing his words.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Shen Chuwei thought, being able to sleep while horse riding is surely unique to her.

"I’ll be sure to pay attention next time," she whispered close to Xiao Jinyan’s ear.

As Shen Chuwei awoke, Xiao Jinyan didn’t set her down but carried her straight up to the second floor.

The attendant led them to a private room, pulled out the white towel from around his neck, wiped the table clean, and said with a beaming smile, "Please have a seat, honored guests."

Xiao Jinyan, holding Shen Chuwei, came to the table and placed her on a chair before sitting down himself.

Wu Tan walked in with even steps, glanced at the private room, noticed there was only one table, and sat down on the other side.

The attendant, with a full-faced smile, asked, "Distinguished guests, what would you like to order?"

Xiao Jinyan looked up at Shen Chuwei, "You order."

"Sure," Knowing Xiao Jinyan’s tastes well, Shen Chuwei not only ordered her favorite dishes but also what Xiao Jinyan liked to eat.

After ordering, Shen Chuwei turned to Wu Tan, "Little Master Wu Tan, what would you like to eat?"

Wu Tan replied, "Two bowls of Plain Congee and two plates of side dishes would suffice."

"Alrighty, please wait a moment, honored guests," the attendant left with a smile.

Having purchased a horse carriage, Qin Xiao then went to make tea; whenever traveling, tea was essential because he couldn’t stand the coarse tea outside.

By the time Qin Xiao walked in, he was carrying a pot of tea and three tea cups.

After placing them on the table, he lifted the teapot, poured three cups of tea, and set one in front of each person—Xiao Jinyan, Shen Chuwei, and Wu Tan—before stepping out.

Shen Chuwei picked up her tea cup to quench her thirst and curiously asked Wu Tan, "Little Master Wu Tan, how far are we from Nanzhao Country?"

After pondering briefly in his mind, Wu Tan answered, "At our current pace, it will take about a month’s journey."

Upon hearing it would take another month, Shen Chuwei thought about the horse riding and carriage sitting... Would her bottom even survive?

She turned to look at Xiao Jinyan, recalling how he was sent far from his parents to Nanzhao as a hostage at the age of eight; he must have been a little scared back then.

Xiao Jinyan, who had been drinking his tea, noticed the sidelong glance and turned to look at her, "What’s the matter?"

Shen Chuwei shook her head, "Nothing much, just thinking Nanzhao is really far away."

Xiao Jinyan said, "Nanzhao is indeed a bit far from Daxia, but you’re of delicate constitution, so riding every day is out of the question, and there’s no hurry for a few additional days."

Actually, even men would find it hard to ride day in and day out; only those accustomed to riding wouldn’t feel as much pain, their buttocks toughened by calluses.

Xiao Jinyan, having just recovered from a serious injury, also couldn’t endure daily horse riding; fortunately, Shen Chuwei had prepared a divine artifact for riding, which made it a bit better.

At that moment, the attendant began to bring the dishes to the table in turns.

Shen Chuwei, who had been hungry for a while, picked up her rice, grabbed a piece of meat, and put it in her mouth together with the rice; after half a day’s journey, what she looked forward to the most was mealtime.

In front of Wu Tan lay two bowls of Plain Congee and a couple of side dishes. He picked up a bowl of congee and slowly took a bite, unhurriedly chewing.

After eating several mouthfuls, Shen Chuwei raised her head to see Xiao Jinyan eating his meal with calm and composed movements, maintaining his elegance no matter the time and place.

Then there was Wu Tan, whose congee and side dishes were devoid of any grease, making them look utterly unappetizing, yet he was the only one who could eat them.

She glanced at Wu Tan’s figure; though clothed in loose robes which hung hollow on his frame, one could tell he was very slender.

Perhaps because she herself loved to eat meat, the sight of someone who didn’t baffled her a bit. She took another piece of meat, which was just the right mix of lean and fat, non-greasy, and thought to herself, meat is really delicious.

After lunch and some rest at the Inn, they continued their journey in the horse carriage.

Seeing Xiao Jinyan reading a book again and not feeling sleepy, Shen Chuwei sneakily took out a romance novel and began flipping through it.

She was glad she had once rented out a bunch of romance novels to make some pocket money, charging five yuan per week; she had made quite a bit of extra cash.

If she hadn’t had that idea back then, she would have lacked a way to pass the time after arriving in ancient times.
