Chapter 595: Chapter 486: Xuetuan is very smart, takes the opportunity to sneak in to save Xiao Jinyan

Xuetuan dashed all the way and lifted its head to look at the figure not far off, extending its paw to scratch the hem of the person’s clothes, but it hadn’t even touched the edge when a guard kicked it, luckily, Xuetuan dodged quickly.

"Where did this stray cat come from?" the guard pulled out his sword, frightening Xuetuan into quickly retreating a few steps and hiding behind a pillar.

Several guards were assisting a man dressed in white clothing, with his eyes covered by a bandage, walking cautiously, as if he could not see the road.

After helping the man onto the horse carriage, the coachman drove the carriage away.

Xuetuan paused for a moment, then emerged from behind the pillar, ready to give chase on all fours.

Shen Chuwei came out of the restaurant and saw Xuetuan running forward without a care, she stepped forward and called out to it.

"Xuetuan?"

Xuetuan, having not run far, heard Shen Chuwei calling and stopped running. It turned its head towards Shen Chuwei, then looked at the horse carriage that had gone far, and reluctantly turned back.

Shen Chuwei squatted down to pick up Xuetuan, petting its forehead, "You’ve gone wild just after leaving home, have you?"

Xuetuan expressed its grievance, "Meow."

After its call, it gazed again towards the distant horse carriage.

Shen Chuwei followed Xuetuan’s gaze, puzzled, looking over to where people bustled by and vendors’ cries could be heard.

Qin Xiao came running up and saw Shen Chuwei holding Xuetuan, he asked quietly, "Master, what’s wrong?"

Shen Chuwei looked away, "Nothing’s wrong."

Qin Xiao inquired, "Master, where do we continue the search next?"

Shen Chuwei pondered for a moment then said, "First, go and gather information on the Xingmiao Clan. Once we have a clear picture, we’ll go and take a look tomorrow."

"As you command," Qin Xiao acknowledged the order and, along with two guards, went off to investigate the Xingmiao Clan.

Shen Chuwei then carried Xuetuan and wandered aimlessly around the streets.

The guards followed closely, neither too near nor too far.

Shen Chuwei actually loved to stroll around the market because she could find a lot of delicious food and things she had never tasted before.

However, the most important task at hand was to find Xiao Jinyan; the culinary delights could wait.

Xuetuan kept its fluffy head raised, those beautiful deep blue eyes surveying the surroundings.

Shen Chuwei also noticed that Xuetuan was acting a bit strange today. Usually, it would nestle in her arms too lazy to even lift its head, but today it not only kept its head raised but constantly did so, as if it had discovered some amusing incident.

However, after a full circuit without any gains, Shen Chuwei decided to take Xuetuan back to the estate.

Already dark when they returned to the tent, they had missed the time for the evening meal.

Shen Chuwei, not quite accustomed to the camp food, cooked up Tomato Egg Soup, Fried-braised Eggplant, and stir-fried green peppers with cured pork on her own.

She also steamed a fish for Xuetuan.

Just as the meal was ready, Xiao Jinyu ran in excitedly.

"Sister-in-law, is there any news of the Crown Prince?"

Shen Chuwei had just finished putting the two dishes and a soup on the square table and shook her head at Xiao Jinyu, "Not yet. I’ll continue searching tomorrow."

She then used tongs to lift the Steamed Fish out of the pot and set it aside to cool.

Xiao Jinyu, seeing his favorite dishes on the table, couldn’t help but feel his mouth water, "Sister-in-law, did you cook this meal?"

"Of course, I’m not used to the camp food," Shen Chuwei said as she began to serve herself.

Xiao Jinyu, having been pampered since childhood, naturally couldn’t stand the camp food either. He licked his lips, "Sister-in-law, could you serve me a bowl too?"

Shen Chuwei was surprised, "Haven’t you had your evening meal yet?"

Xiao Jinyu felt a bit embarrassed, "Not as delicious as what sister-in-law makes here in the camp."

Shen Chuwei thought everyone would have had their meal by this time, but it appeared Xiao Jinyu had not eaten... or perhaps had not eaten enough.

She filled a bowl for Xiao Jinyu and put it in front of him, then turned and refilled her bowl.

Xiao Jinyu couldn’t wait to pick up a piece of the Fried-braised Eggplant with his chopsticks and put it into his mouth, following it with a bite of rice, savoring the meal.

Shen Chuwei was even more delighted eating her meal, hungry and tired after a whole day of running around.

Usually, she would lie down, sip some tea, snack on some pastries, yet even so, she could still manage to eat four bowls of rice come mealtime.

Today was Xiao Jinyu’s first time on the battlefield. It was a pity that the Crown Prince was not with him; else he could have shared his experiences with the Crown Prince.

As he lifted his head to take more food, he saw Shen Chuwei and wanted to share with her.

"Sister-in-law, it was my first time on the battlefield today."

In between eating, Shen Chuwei found a moment to ask, "How did it feel?"

After asking, she looked down, continuing her meal, and contemplating the Fried-braised Eggplant in front of her, planning to cook minced meat with eggplant and steamed meat the next day.
