Chapter 220: Chapter 219: Happy Like a Kid

"Ah!!" An instinctive cry of alarm slipped out.

Who would have thought that it was possible to walk so unsteadily just a few steps away?

Shen Chuwei never imagined that at her age, she could still trip over her own feet.

Shen Chuwei was in a particularly good mood today, so she had a few extra drinks, casting aside the fact that too much could lead to intoxication.

Xiao Jinyan’s quick reflexes allowed him to stretch out his arms and steadily catch the person tumbling towards him.

Chuwei instinctively clutched at Xiao Jinyan’s arms, relieved she hadn’t fallen to the ground.

She raised her delicate little face, slightly drunken, "Your Highness is indeed skilled, catching your concubine in an instant."

After steadying her, Xiao Jinyan looked down to see her drunken face, her tone even different from usual.

His slender fingers pinched her flushed cheek as his voice dripped with indulgence, "It was only fruit wine, how have you become so drunk?"

Chuwei giggled twice, "This concubine isn’t drunk, I can still drink."

Those who drunkenly insist they’re not drunk are usually quite deep in their cups.

"Yes, Chuwei isn’t drunk," Xiao Jinyan said, helping her to sit down on a chair.

Chuwei suddenly held Xiao Jinyan’s face, frowning, "There are two of Your Highness now, which one is real?"

If it were someone else, drunk and talking nonsense, Xiao Jinyan would have thrown them out long ago.

But he was very patient with Shen Chuwei.

Xiao Jinyan patiently explained, "Your eyes are playing tricks on you, there’s only one of me."

Chuwei stared at Xiao Jinyan with widened eyes for a moment, trying to discern how many Xiao Jinyans were before her.

She suddenly leaned in, "Chuwei wants a kiss."

Xiao Jinyan looked down at Chuwei, her nose touching his, her childlike voice rendering him speechless for a while.

He kissed her on the lips, his laugh affectionate, "You become quite bold when you’re drunk."

Chuwei kissed him back, because only then was it fair.

She wrapped her arms tightly around Xiao Jinyan’s neck, whispering drunkly in his ear, "Jinyan, was what you said the other day true?"

That night, Chuwei had vaguely heard someone talking. It was so faint she wasn’t sure if it was real or just something she had dreamed up.

Now heavily inebriated, she voiced the doubt that had been suppressed in her heart for a long time, longing for a truthful outcome.

If she were sober, she probably couldn’t have asked.

Xiao Jinyan, taken aback by the question, took a while to respond before realizing what Chuwei was referring to.

"Of course it’s true, when have I ever lied to you?"

Chuwei giggled again, her voice as innocent as a child’s.

Xiao Jinyan looked at her sideways, seeing her eyes curled up in joy, his large hand cupping her forehead, guiding her face to his.

"So happy?"

Chuwei stared intently at Xiao Jinyan, then leaned in and kissed his lips.

She kissed him the way he kissed her.

Xiao Jinyan felt her initiative; it was the second time she kissed him, and it felt completely different from before.

Last time, it was clumsy like a beginner.

This time, it was the effort of a beginner trying to be experienced, awkward but thrilling.

"Hiss!" Xiao Jinyan felt his lip might be broken, tasting a sweet metallic flavor.

"Chuwei, not like that," Xiao Jinyan, seeing the drunken haze in Chuwei’s eyes, shook his head helplessly.

He took the initiative, showing her how.

Having been on the road for consecutive days, he had been enduring, holding back.

He would only kiss her forehead and the corners of her lips when she slept.

But now, with nothing stopping him and his desires stirred, he didn’t want to resist any longer.

The next day

When Chuwei woke up, her head throbbing, she opened her eyes and blankly stared at the carriage ceiling for a while.

"Awake?" A familiar voice came from above. She slowly turned her head and, upon seeing Xiao Jinyan’s incomparably handsome face, paused again.

It was only then that she realized she was in a horse carriage, the rumbling of wheels in her ears indicating she was on the road.

Last night, she clearly remembered drinking and eating grilled meat and sleeping in a tent.

"Your Highness, are we setting off this early?" Chuwei subconsciously thought she had slept too deeply and Xiao Jinyan must have carried her to the carriage because they had left early to continue their journey.

Xiao Jinyan saw her dazed look and guessed she was still blurry from sleep, "It is already the hour of Wei now."

The hour of Wei?

Chuwei heard ’hour of Wei,’ which meant early afternoon, and realizing she had missed breakfast and lunch, felt her already hungry stomach growl with even more ferocity.

She abruptly sat up, but halfway through realized her body was sore and achy, frowning deeply in discomfort.

What was going on?

Could it be that they had traveled by horse carriage through the night?

Chuwei frowned in thought for a while, reminiscing past nights spent in the carriage without such soreness.

Xiao Jinyan noticed her movements and quickly extended his arms to lift her, "Slow down, what’s the hurry?"

Chuwei struggled to remember what happened the previous night, but the unfamiliar sensation in her body, too familiar to forget, gave her pause.

Did she share a bed with Xiao Jinyan last night?

And blackout drunk at that; she wasn’t sure if she had spoken out of turn.

Looking at Xiao Jinyan now, she felt too embarrassed to ask about the previous night.

"This concubine missed both morning and noon meals, what a loss."

"..." Xiao Jinyan: "How is it that all you remember is to eat?"

Chuwei rubbed her stomach, a touch feeble, "This concubine is hungry."

Xiao Jinyan: "Wash up first, then eat."

"Alright." Chuwei took out her washing utensils and started to freshen up.

While Chuwei washed up, Xiao Jinyan opened the food box on the low table, taking out pastries and setting them on the table.

Chun Xi had made meat buns and fried dough sticks early in the morning, and this time, the preparations were thoroughly done.

Even though they were cold now, they still tasted alright.

Xiao Jinyan then took out tea sets, brewed some fresh tea and poured a cup for Chuwei.

Washing up was quick, and soon after, Chuwei was ready.

Chuwei eyed the buns and dough sticks on the table, started eating them eagerly.

Xiao Jinyan watched her gobble down the food and reminded her, "Eat slowly."

"This concubine understands," Chuwei replied with her mouth full, but her pace of eating didn’t slow down. She took a few sips of the fresh tea and then bit off a piece of the dough stick.

Though not as tasty as the freshly cooked ones, they were still considered delicious on an empty stomach.

Xuetuan, smelling the meat, meowed once.

Chuwei glanced down at Xuetuan, knowing how much it loved food, she picked up a meat bun and put it in front of it, puffing her cheeks, "Eat."

Xuetuan didn’t hesitate, taking a bite. When it reached the meat filling, it happily squinted its deep blue eyes.

Xiao Jinyan watched the duo of food lovers, one human and one cat, then shifted his gaze to Chuwei. Remembering her actions from last night, he inquired softly, "Do you still remember what happened last night?"
