Chapter 588: 283 Siblings (One more update) _2 Chapter 588: 283 Siblings (One more update) _2 “Hmm, everything’s fine.” Gu Jiao responded.
The second owner relaxed and said,”These are the new batch of golden sore medicine to be delivered to the Tiger Mountain Camp, later I’ll have Doctor Song and Xiao Sanzi take it there.”
“I’ll go.” Gu Jiao suggested.
“You?” The second owner frowned, “It rained last night and it might be hard to travel. I’m afraid the carriage might skid.”
“I will go.” Gu Jiao was firm in her decision.
The second owner understood her stubbornness, once she decided, nothing could change her mind. After all, it was just delivering medicine, he would ask Xiao Sanzi to drive the carriage slowly.
“Then you shouldn’t rush on the way. Also.” He went on after thinking of something and whispered, “Something happened in the Tiger Mountain Camp these past few days, the nephew of Lord Tang was injured by someone. Be careful when you deliver the medicine, don’t offend anyone.”
“I know.” Gu Jiao agreed.
Once the goods were packed, she and Xiao Sanzi left for the Tiger Mountain Camp.
It was still cloudy today after the rain last night, with vultures circling overhead.
As she was nearing the Tiger Mountain Camp, she surprisingly ran into Gu Chengfeng.
Gu Chengfeng had also just arrived. He was getting off the Marquis Residence’s carriage while Gu Jiao was still in her carriage. He recognised Xiao Sanzi and asked, “Who’s inside the carriage?”
Gu Jiao lifted the curtain.
“You? How come you’re here too?” Gu Chengfeng entered her carriage without being invited and told Xiao Sanzi, “Keep an eye out. Call us if anyone comes.”
Xiao Sanzi didn’t respond right away, but looked to Gu Jiao. Seeing her nod, he hopped off the carriage and began to keep a vigilant watch for them.
This was the official road leading to the Tiger Mountain Camp. Roughly 500 steps ahead lay the camp, within its sphere of influence. Normal people wouldn’t dare come here without good reason.
The ones who visited were military officers, but not many.
Looking at how secure the surroundings were, Gu Chengfeng said to Gu Jiao, “Did you hear what happened last night? Big brother really made a mess, how could he escape from prison in the middle of the night? Even though he hasn’t been convicted yet, he’s still a government official, and being in camp, escaping privately is punished as desertion! I have no idea where he disappeared to in the middle of the night—”
At this point, he realized Gu Jiao hadn’t reacted at all. His gaze fell on her unfazed face, and his eyes widened, “You knew where big brother went last night?”
Gu Jiao remained silent.
Naturally she knew.
She came to change the dressing for Gu Yan’s wounds and saw Gu Changqing galloping away from her on horseback when she was at the gate. He didn’t see her as he had already passed her by.
Although the information hadn’t leaked outside, she had treated Tang Mingzhi’s injuries and suspected that Gu Changqing was the one who had injured him and likely been detained at the camp for investigation.
Anyone under investigation would normally not be allowed to leave the camp. That’s why she came over today to check on Gu Changqing.
“Could big brother have gone to Bishui Alley?” Gu Chengfeng asked tentatively. Seeing Gu Jiao’s face of tacit agreement, he suddenly stood up, “Did he go to see Gu Yan— Ah—”
Standing up too quickly, he forgot that he was inside the Medical Hall’s carriage, not the bigger one from the Marquis Residence. His head hit the top of the carriage which made him gasp in pain.
“Ah! Ah! Ah!”
He yelled out loud.
It is not clear whether it was the pain or the madness caused by the thought of big brother visiting Gu Yan.
“Are you done yelling?” Gu Jiao asked him dispassionately.
Gu Chengfeng huffed, thinking, ‘Guess who yells louder than me? As if someone has forgotten about the time they held onto my ear and yelled while sobering up!’
Gu Chengfeng sat down despondently again, once his mood had come out, he was left with nothing but despair. “You must have known big brother was put under custody, right? Big brother escaped from jail last night, it’s equivalent to desertion, punishable by death. Let alone, he also killed people.”
Gu Jiao frowned slightly, “He killed someone?”
Gu Chengfeng lowered his eyes and said desolately, “He killed two soldiers who were guards. We heard the news at the Marquis Residence last night. Grandfather rushed over there and hasn’t come back this morning. I suspect things are not going smoothly, so I thought of coming to see big brother. I thought you knew.”
“I didn’t know.” However hard she thought, Gu Jiao could never imagine Gu Changqing would kill to escape. It wasn’t something he would do.
And how could Gu Chengfeng expect this either?
He said, “I don’t believe big brother would murder innocently, and grandfather doesn’t believe it either. But there were witnesses and evidence. Apparently, someone saw big brother alive holding a bloodied sword, standing next to the two dead soldiers. But, the eyewitness soldier was not murdered by big brother. If big brother were really so ruthless to murder innocently, why would he leave behind an eyewitness?”
