Chapter 757: Chapter 540 Incense Fire God
As the sky gradually brightened.
The people in the Mountain God Temple felt both relieved and joyful at this moment. They had managed to survive a very dangerous night. Without Li Yi’s presence, Old Liu believed that most of them would have mysteriously disappeared, just like those before, perishing in this wilderness.
After the previous night’s incident, everyone treated Li Yi with special respect, considering him a high master of spells. With him around, the ghosts and spirit monsters in the mountains wouldn’t dare to come close.
"Daoist, it’s dawn. Shouldn’t we continue on our journey? If we’re late, I’m afraid we won’t make it past the three passes ahead, and we’d have to spend another night in the wilderness. While your abilities are naturally nothing to worry about, we commoners dare not take such risks."
Once everything was tidied up, Old Liu respectfully approached Li Yi to inquire.
The others also eagerly looked at Li Yi, hoping that this Daoist would travel with them, ensuring that the rest of their journey would be safe without further incidents.
Li Yi slowly opened his eyes at this moment, ending a day of cultivation, and said, "You want me to protect you for a while?"
"Not at all, not at all. We merely wish to follow the Daoist for a stretch to bask in your grace," Old Liu hurriedly replied.
Li Yi glanced at the Divine Statue in the temple and said, "To be honest, the danger you encountered last night was partly because of me. Well, I also have no fixed residence, so I’ll travel with you and see where it takes us."
Upon hearing this, the scholar Lu Yue and several other travelers were delighted.
"The Daoist is benevolent, and we are deeply grateful." Old Liu politely bowed.
"No need for such courtesy. Since you’re all ready, let’s set off." Li Yi stood up, patted his Daoist robe, and without procrastinating, headed out of the Mountain God Temple.
At that moment, the sun was just rising, and mist swirled between the mountains and wilds. The distant green hills undulated, and with each breath, the Spiritual Energy of heaven and earth quickly converged upon him, making his body feel comfortable and his spirit refreshed.
Although the Cosmic Energy here was average, as long as it was untainted, the pace of cultivation should not be slow.
However, Li Yi hadn’t yet opened the fourteenth acupoint, unable to absorb the golden aura of the earth into the lung acupoint. Yet, after a night’s cultivation, he had made some progress, though it would still require time to refine. Nevertheless, he wanted to connect with practitioners of this world to understand their cultivation methods and see if it could benefit him.
As Li Yi stepped out of the temple.
Old Liu hurriedly instructed others to keep up, ensuring no one was left behind.
Li Yi’s steps were agile and light. Even descending the steps, he seemed as if he might soar into the sky at any moment, exuding an indescribable grace. But when walking on flat ground, his stride resembled a dragon or tiger, commanding immense respect with his imposing presence.
Yesterday evening, people didn’t see clearly. It was only during the day that they realized what an extraordinary and distinguished figure this Daoist was.
The group followed the mountain path downhill. Indeed, there was no danger at all. They didn’t even hear the occasional noise of wildlife in the wilderness.
"Old Liu, look at that mountain."
Suddenly, the scholar Lu Yue noticed something. His face changed, and he quickly walked a few steps to pull Old Liu in front. Pointing at a distant mountain peak, he said, "That mountain didn’t look like that yesterday, did it?"
Old Liu glanced over, and then jumped in shock, his eyes filled with dread.
They saw that the mountain, which had been perfectly fine, now had a crack running through the middle. The crevice split the mountain in a straight line, as if sliced open by a Divine Weapon. The crack extended from the peak to the foot, and even aligned with the Mountain God Temple behind them.
"That mountain peak must have been split open by Master Taiyi’s lightning while banishing demons last night," he asserted confidently but with some trepidation. "The rumbling sound we heard was rocks falling. No wonder, after the Daoist acted, all the ghosts and spirit monsters vanished. Seeing this scene, who would dare stay here?"
Looking again, Lu Yue was also stunned: "From that mountain top to the Mountain God Temple, it seems close, but it’s at least ten miles away. Can someone really split a mountain from such a distance? Is he even human?"
Old Liu remained silent, having never encountered such an outrageous event in his life. He had certainly witnessed something extraordinary today.
As the group descended the mountain, they reached the main road.
Though it was called a main road, it was easy to lose one’s way. The ancient trees on either side were verdant, surrounded by wild grasses. With sightlines blocked, it was impossible to tell north, east, south, or west. When you encountered a fork in the forest path, you had no idea where it might lead.
There were neither signposts nor markers on the road.
To safely pass this area, an experienced guide is essential. Wayfarers could pool their money to hire someone like Old Liu, who could guide them through safely and avoid the risk of getting lost. Naturally, some daring individuals would choose not to hire anyone and make their own way through, though whether they’d make it out unscathed was anyone’s guess.
Thus, everyone fell silent, focusing solely on hurrying down the path.
Speaking could disrupt breathing and drain their energy. If they ran out of strength and fell behind, no one was willing to stand and wait for them.
