Chapter 67: Chapter 55 Foreign Combat Personnel

Li Yi slowly woke up from his comatose state.

His whole body ached, and when he tried to move, he found bandages wrapped all around him, casts on several parts, and even his head was heavily bandaged, making him look like a mummy. Besides that, there were several IV bottles hanging next to him, constantly administering medication into his body to alleviate his symptoms.

"Is this a hospital?"

At that moment, Li Yi remembered that he had fought to the last breath with Ning Wu the night before. Then, the agents from the bureau had arrived, and he had been put on an ambulance, but he had passed out by then. He had no knowledge of what happened afterward.

"You’re awake?" Suddenly, a voice sounded, belonging to a man missing an arm, who was currently leaning on the adjacent hospital bed, looking at him with interest.

"You are Li Yi, right? I’ve heard about your case, killing eight men barehanded, even almost killing a cultivator from the inspiration realm, not bad at all."

Unable to get up, Li Yi just turned his head to look and asked, "Who are you? Are you from the bureau, by any chance?"

"I am He Xiong, a cultivator like you, injured and brought here for treatment. I heard last night that a tough guy was brought in, someone who killed eight cultivators in one night, so I was curious to meet you."

This patient, who claimed to be He Xiong, laughed and said, "I’m very curious, you’re young, your cultivation isn’t high, how did you manage to kill seven people? I’ve heard of that Ning Wu, she often roams the Ruined District, not the typical cultivation nerd. She has mastered the Fierce Beast Breathing Technique, which can greatly enhance her strength in a short period. Other cultivators end up being oppressed by her; it’s impossible for someone to rise above in a lower realm like you did, and even managed to take one of her legs."

"I don’t want to tell you the reason," Li Yi glanced and said, unwilling to elaborate.

He Xiong touched his amputated arm and said, "I know what it is, you’ve mastered a very powerful martial art."

"Since you know, why are you asking?" Li Yi retorted, "What, are you interested in my martial art?"

"Haha, I am a bit interested, but I’m more curious about another rumor I heard," He Xiong suddenly whispered, "Ning Wu said you have a Mysterious Object on you, is that true?"

"It’s true, I have a Mysterious Object," Li Yi casually said, "I’ll take it out and show you now, it’s quite big, do you want to see it?"

"Never mind, I won’t look, I have a Mysterious Object too," He Xiong said with a smile, "But Ning Wu’s words have had a big impact on you."

Li Yi’s expression shifted as he spoke, "Even the dumbest lies can deceive people. With the value of a Mysterious Object, who doesn’t understand? Even if there is a ninety-nine percent chance the news is false, people will still take the gamble. However, while she suspected that I have a Mysterious Object, I suspect she has one too."

"Oh, how so?" He Xiong suddenly became curious.

Li Yi was now crafting his story. "A month ago, that Ning Wu and a cultivator named Crow entered the Ruined District. They found a grave in an abandoned building there that didn’t belong to our world. Suspecting that the grave contained Mysterious Objects, they continuously recruited ordinary people to venture into the building, seeking treasures."

"And I was one of them."

He Xiong’s eyes flickered, "There was such an incident, causing nearly twenty people to disappear. If clear evidence hadn’t been lacking, Ning Wu and Crow would definitely have been executed."

"Our last group had five people, of which three survived, and I indeed took something from inside. But at that time, I was just an ordinary person and didn’t know what it was, so I handed it to Crow... and then, just yesterday, Ning Wu suddenly came to silence us."

Li Yi laughed as he spoke, "What do you think could be the reason?"

"To silence us?" He Xiong’s face shifted.

"That’s what I’ve just realized might be the reason. Otherwise, I can’t think of why Ning Wu would go to such lengths, regardless of cost, killing people in the Ruined District," Li Yi successfully fabricated a story, making everything seem reasonable.

That was the only way he could conceal the fact that he possessed a Mysterious Object.

Li Yi continued, "There were three of us who survived initially, Wang Hu, Wei Li, and me. If you want to verify whether this is true, you might want to check on the other two, though I think Wang Hu and Wei Li are either dead or have disappeared."

He was quite certain that Wang Hu and Wei Li couldn’t be found.

They had both taken something from that ancient tomb, and whatever those things were, neither of them would likely give them up.

At that moment, He Xiong narrowed his eyes slightly and then said, "Actually, before you woke up, we already investigated Wang Hu and Wei Li. Wang Hu is currently missing, whereabouts unknown, and Wei Li left Tianchang City a month ago, and now no information about him is available. So far, only you are confirmed to be alive, so your guess makes a lot of sense. Ning Wu’s group really might be trying to silence us."

"Do you know Kong Sheng?"

"A friend of a friend. He was the one who tipped me off, otherwise, I would have been dead already." Li Yi confirmed by now that this so-called patient, He Xiong, wasn’t just another hospital mate but was from the bureau, mostly likely trying to get him to spill his secrets.
