Chapter 515: Chapter 366: Return to the Burial Grounds
"Niu Niu, you may go. I won’t kill you today."
Li Yi did not kill the mutant beast but released it instead. After familiarizing himself with his strength, he intended to return to Shoushan Village to rescue Jiang Mingtian, Hu Fei, and Zhao Fangji. They were his teammates, after all; he couldn’t just abandon them.
However, he wasn’t concerned about the other people in Shoushan Village except for their leader, the formidable Ju Jiao.
Even now, with the bloodline of gods and a transformed body, Li Yi wasn’t fully confident he could confront Ju Jiao.
But he had to try.
With that thought in mind.
Li Yi released the Thunder Fighter from his Magic Artifact storage, preparing to board the fighter and leave.
At this moment, the mutant beast he had defeated was limping towards him with low growls, but after only a few steps, the pain from its broken legs made it stumble and fall to the ground, and its calls became even more urgent.
Li Yi paused in his steps, turning back to look: "What is it? Do you want to come with me?"
As if understanding Li Yi’s words, the mutant beast nodded.
Li Yi was astonished.
Though he had defeated the mutant beast, they usually had a wild nature that, without special methods, wouldn’t easily submit to anyone, opting for untamed resistance unto death rather than surrender.
"Could it be because of the divine bloodline in my body?" Li Yi then considered such a possibility.
After all, the divine bloodline and mutant beasts belonged to the same world; perhaps there was some kind of connection between them.
"A mutant beast at the level of the Soul Realm isn’t weak in strength. I’m short on manpower right now, so it would be good to keep it by my side." Li Yi thought for a moment, then walked over to the side of the huge mutant beast and said, "If you wish to follow me, then come with me, but you must obey my commands. Otherwise, I’ll slaughter you for meat."
Regardless of whether the mutant beast understood, he then took out a life-restoration pod to help mend its broken legs.
Though the restored legs were not as strong as before, it didn’t affect its mobility, and the vitality of the creatures in this world was terrifyingly tenacious. It would probably take just a few hours to heal completely.
After its legs had healed, the mutant beast stood up and started to happily bounce around, letting out joyful cries.
"Let’s go to Shoushan Village. We have a battle to fight," said Li Yi, who leapt onto the back of the humongous beast and pointed in a certain direction with his finger.
Upon receiving the command, the mutant beast let out a high-pitched roar to the sky and then charged forward with great force.
Its speed was incredibly fast, like a high-speed train tearing through the landscape. Wild and unrestrained, it barreled through anything in its path, sending stones flying if it encountered them, traversing rivers and lakes as if they were flat ground, without sinking. The creatures it encountered on the path fled in terror at the sight of it.
The vast wilderness seemed like its personal playground where it could frolic without any inhibitions.
At this moment, Li Yi circulated his Gang Qi, as if donning a suit of silver armor that protected his form. He then crossed his arms and sat in meditation, lifting his head to gaze into the distance, letting the howling wind whirl by his ears.
"By the way, what kind of mutant beast are you exactly? You resemble a bovine beast, tread water without sinking, and run as fast as the wind."
Li Yi felt that this mutant beast, like Good Wings he had encountered before, was equally extraordinary. Though not a legendary species, it possessed boundless potential. Currently existing naturally in the wild, its full capabilities were not evident, but with proper guidance and cultivation, it surely could become very powerful, especially in this world where even gods existed; such rare and peculiar beasts were definitely not simple.
Although the mutant beast was intelligent, it could not speak the human language. It focused solely on racing towards the direction Li Yi had pointed.
With such speed, man and beast quickly returned to the ancient valley where gods were buried.
As they drew closer to the valley, the mutant beast became visibly restless but did not stop, instead crossing around the perimeter of the valley and heading directly towards the other side, towards Shoushan Village.
Clearly, the mutant beast recognized the terrain and was very familiar with everything here.
At this point, Li Yi looked at the valley and after some thought, he commanded Niu Niu to change direction. He wanted to go to the valley first to pick all the remaining silver magical fruits, to save him a trip back later.
Although Niu Niu felt a sense of reverence towards the valley, it gave a low roar and, with lowered head, charged into the valley at an undiminished speed.
"The golden lightning that was encircling the valley before seems to have not yet calmed down."
With a frown, Li Yi saw that on the mountains flanking the valley, golden lightning still flickered, as if the wrath of the deceased gods had not yet subsided, ready to erupt at any moment.
But now he possessed the divine bloodline. If what was said within Sword Coin’s remnant will was correct, then he should be safe in this valley.
With some trepidation, he persisted in walking deeper into the valley.
Inside the valley, there were only weeds and scattered stones, and the atmosphere was filled with an old and desolate air. Only a few trees bearing magical fruits were sparsely scattered within the valley, seemingly the only notable features of it.
As the rumbling of thunder continued vaguely from the sky, no other birds could be seen, clearly having been scared away.
Li Yi, sitting on Niu Niu, soon arrived next to one of the fruit trees.
This tree wasn’t tall, just over four meters, and the magical fruits on it were few, numbering just over twenty, with some quite underdeveloped and not fully transformed into their silver hue.
Seeing this situation, Li Yi only harvested a dozen or so fully ripened mutant fruits and left some of the smaller, underdeveloped ones behind.
"Move on to the next tree." After storing the silver fruits in his storage Magic Artifact, Li Yi commanded Niu Niu to continue to the next tree.
He also picked the ripe fruits, leaving behind those that were smaller and not yet mature.
Soon, he had harvested almost all the fruit trees in the canyon, yielding a total of two hundred mutant fruits.
Finally, Li Yi turned his attention to the large tree in the center of the canyon.
This tree was lush with branches and leaves, its crown like a splendid canopy, and it bore numerous silver fruits - at least several hundred. Each fruit, the size of a fist, was shimmering with a brilliant light, extraordinary and on a completely different level compared to the fruits of the previous trees.
Of course, the most special were the ancient fruits growing halfway up the mountainside. Only four lantern-sized fruits were left, but he planned to harvest these last.
"Let’s go there," Li Yi pointed towards the lush, large tree.
Seated Niu Niu did not obey the command but instead looked up as if stunned, seemingly detecting some anomaly.
Li Yi urged it to move forward, but the mutant beast refused to budge, instead letting out a low growl and lying down on the ground, unwilling to proceed further.
"Is there danger ahead?" Li Yi didn’t press further but furrowed his brow and scanned the surroundings. However, he found nothing abnormal, and his Soul Realm also did not issue any warnings.
After pondering for a moment.
He decided not to ride the mutant beast and left Niu Niu behind. He handed it several silver fruits as a reward and then, using his silver Gang Qi, turned into a dazzling light and flew towards the large tree.
The mutant beast chewed on the silver fruits, raising its head and still staring in place, watching Li Yi’s figure intently without blinking.
Soon.
Li Yi arrived underneath the large tree.
"Everything seems normal." Relieved to see no incidents had occurred, he reached out to pluck a fist-sized silver fruit from the tree.
He had only picked a single fruit.
The next moment.
Boom!
A deafening roar echoed across the sky above the canyon as a golden lightning bolt struck directly toward Li Yi’s position.
Startled, Li Yi tried to dodge, but the golden lightning was too fast. Before he could react, it struck, not hitting him but turning midair to hit a nearby rock, scattering shards of stone everywhere.
What was even more divine was that for a fleeting moment, Li Yi thought he saw a human silhouette within the golden lightning—an imposing and majestic figure, standing upon the earth like a towering mountain, eliciting in others an inexplicable sense of suffocation.
But as quickly as the lightning had come, the figure vanished in the blink of an eye.
"An illusion?" Li Yi paused, suspecting he might have seen wrong.
But when he looked at the spot where the lightning had struck the ground, he was taken aback once more.
He saw that the shattered stones had revealed a large pit, and in the center of the pit there lay a silver stone, intertwined with light and exuding an aura of mystery.
Li Yi looked up at the sky and, seeing no more thunder descending, jumped down from the tree into the pit to try and pick up the mysterious silver stone.
However, he soon realized that the silver stone was not small; only a corner had been revealed by the lightning strike.
Li Yi tried to dig around it, but after digging several meters down, the silver stone continued to increase in size.
"This isn’t a stone... it’s a bone."
Realizing the nature of the item, Li Yi was shocked.
The silver bone greatly resembled his own skeletal structure after awakening his divine bloodline, except the bone found in the valley was exceptionally large, and he dug for several meters without uncovering its full extent. Many tree roots were also entwined around the bone.
It seemed that the trees were bearing the silver fruits by drawing strength from this silver bone.
"Could this be the remains of the divine being buried within the canyon?" Based on the size of the bone, Li Yi could roughly deduce how enormous the body of its owner must have been.
He tried to take a piece of the bone, only to find that the silver bone was indestructible, immutable, and immovable.
In the end, he had no choice but to give up.
Yet, Li Yi felt that the Divine Bone surely had significant uses; it was just that his current strength was too limited to utilize it fully.
"I’ll have another chance to deal with it in the future. For now, let’s leave it be." He had no choice but to refill the pit with soil and stones, reburying the massive half-exposed bone.
