Chapter 45 - 36 Slander

Chapter 45: Chapter 36 Slander

The vehicle sped along the highway, quickly leaving the dangerous, cordoned-off area behind and smoothly returning to Tianchang City.

Seeing the familiar cityscape, Li Yi, covered in blood inside the carriage, finally relaxed completely.

At this moment, he felt severe soreness and pain all over his body, with multiple areas damaged due to excessive force or prolonged running, especially his back. He had been slashed a few bloody cuts when he first dodged that fierce Biao, and though the bleeding had stopped, the pain was still intensely burning.

"Li Yi, after we get back to AnDing District, I will arrange for a doctor to check on you and give you an examination. The injuries you have now seem quite serious," Zheng Fei, noticing Li Yi’s pain, said from within the vehicle.

"Okay, thank you, I’ll trouble you then," Li Yi nodded, not declining the offer.

Zheng Fei laughed, "It’s what we should do, no need for thanks. After all, you got injured during this mission. The company won’t just ignore that. But you’re actually better off compared to a Spirit Medium Realm cultivator named He Jun—his injuries are far worse."

"He Jun?" Li Yi’s expression shifted, "He’s still alive?"

He Jun had previously collided with him while fleeing, attempting to use Li Yi to draw away that fierce Biao. However, he was also crafty, using He Jun to lead away a group of spider-like humanoid monsters.

"Still alive, and he probably won’t die, but he lost an arm and has numerous severe injuries. If it weren’t for good luck and bumping into Yang Yilong also evacuating, who helped him out, he likely wouldn’t have made it back," Zheng Fei explained. "Plus, He Jun was unfortunate; he didn’t encounter just one fierce beast, but a group of monsters."

"Among all those who escaped back, his situation was the most perilous."

Upon hearing this, Li Yi’s expression became rather odd.

He knew that those monsters were initially chasing him.

"Let’s not talk about this anymore; the car has arrived, let’s get off," Zheng Fei said.

At that moment, the vehicle stopped.

Li Yi once again returned to No. 89, District 1, AnDing District.

It was still that familiar building.

As soon as Li Yi got out of the car, Supervisor Xu Ming immediately approached with two nurses.

"Li Yi, go treat your wounds first. I’ll take care of your prey and someone will contact you later. If you’re worried, I can have your prey packaged and sent to your room," Zheng Fei spoke.

"No need, you handle it, I trust you," Li Yi responded.

He wasn’t worried about things disappearing; with so many people around and cameras everywhere, Yang Yilong wouldn’t betray him over a hunted creature’s corpse.

Zheng Fei nodded, "Okay then, you go rest first."

"Li Yi, can you walk? Do you need a wheelchair? Are you experiencing any dizziness?" Xu Ming assessed Li Yi’s blood-soaked figure, continuously inquiring about his condition.

"I’m fine, I can walk, no need for a wheelchair," Li Yi waved his hand and said.

Supervisor Xu Ming responded, "That’s good, you seem to be in fair condition, but to be cautious, you should first come with me for a checkup. Some internal injuries aren’t visible and can only be confirmed after a comprehensive physical examination."

"Okay, thank you," Li Yi replied.

"I knew you were tough enough to not kick the bucket. How could a cultivator with your potential perish in the dangerous district?" Xu Ming added.

Reflectively, Li Yi said, "I was just lucky to escape death this time; I almost really couldn’t make it back."

"It’s good that you’re all right now; come with me, I’ll take you to the infirmary."

Xu Ming nodded, immediately leading Li Yi and the two accompanying nurses towards the building.

Shortly after,

the group rode the elevator to the ninth floor’s infirmary.

Currently, the infirmary was filled with several patients, the air heavy with the smell of blood and occasional groans of pain.

Li Yi briefly glanced around and spotted several injured cultivators.

"Li Yi, you little rascal..."

One cultivator, wrapped in bandages and lying pale on a hospital bed due to excessive blood loss, still struggled to curse at Li Yi upon seeing him.

"He Jun?"

Li Yi immediately recognized the man: "You’re really still alive, and still so energetic even after losing an arm. The life force of a cultivator is indeed tenacious."

"Li Yi, if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been chased by that group of monsters," He Jun immediately became emotional and then burst out cursing, "I’m telling you, this isn’t over. I’ll let everyone know of your malicious intentions. You’d do anything to survive, causing me to suffer such severe injuries."

At these words, many of the cultivators in the infirmary all turned their eyes to Li Yi, their expressions unfriendly.

He Jun ended up in such a miserable state because of Li Yi?

Other cultivators were also injured and in a foul mood already, brimming with anger, so upon seeing someone like Li Yi, who betrayed his teammates, they almost couldn’t resist rushing up to severely beat him up.

However, everyone still managed to restrain themselves.

Because they wanted to see how Li Yi would defend himself and what the truth of the matter was.

Li Yi didn’t want to be unfairly blamed for something he hadn’t done. He coldly said, "He Jun, you were being chased by a Fierce Beast. You deliberately lured that Fierce Beast toward me, nearly causing me my life. If it hadn’t been for my desperate burst of power and my body’s evolution advancing me into the Spirit Medium Realm, and if I hadn’t fought that Fierce Beast desperately, I would be its meal by now."

"As for those other monsters chasing you, that’s your bad luck, not my fault."

Upon saying this, Li Yi immediately took off his shirt revealing scratch marks on his back.

Many people saw and immediately recognized that those were indeed wounds left by the claws of a Fierce Beast during an escape.

"So that’s what happened."

Seeing Li Yi’s logical explanation and the evidence of his wounds, their gazes shifted and grew complicated as they looked toward He Jun. After all, He Jun had nothing tangible to offer, no evidence to prove that his own chasing monsters were due to Li Yi.

Li Yi continued, "He Jun, you are inherently evil. Not only did you harm me during our escape in the dangerous area, but the two assistants who were with you were also led to their deaths by you. You used them as eye witnesses, exploiting their corpses to stall the Fierce Beast’s attacks. How else could you have safely made it back? If it hadn’t been for the last cultivator exposing your malicious intent before he died, I would have been your victim as well."

"You, you’re talking nonsense, Li Yi! When did I ever attack my companions like that? You’re slandering me! Nobody should believe him. If I were as he says, I would’ve come back safe, not with such severe injuries."

He Jun’s pale face flushed red with anger. Although he did intend for others to help him stall the Fierce Beasts, he had never attacked anyone else.

Unexpectedly, Li Yi, who seemed honest and upright, was also full of mischiefs, slandering others as if it came naturally to him.

But Li Yi didn’t give him a chance to retort, feeling there was no need to be ethical with such a person—mere mudslinging, as if it were something anyone wouldn’t do. He continued, "I am slandering you? Everything demands proof. If you think I am to blame for your plight, then produce evidence. Don’t just play the victim here to gain sympathy."

"I... I don’t have evidence, but Li Yi, where is your evidence? You said I caused the deaths of the two assistants next to me and directed that Fierce Beast to attack you. You too must present evidence to convince everyone here. If you provide the evidence, I’ll accept blame for this. But if you can’t, then you are the slanderer, and you and I are not done in this lifetime."

He Jun shouted from his hospital bed, furiously angry, with his wounds reopening and bleeding afresh due to his agitation.

But deep down, he didn’t believe that Li Yi could produce any evidence.

Everyone was already dead in the dangerous area, and by now the bodies were probably gone. Where would he find evidence?

Thus, with no evidence to the contrary, He Jun felt justified and unabashed.

Li Yi fixed his stare at him and said, "You want evidence, do you? I’ll give it to you, but we need someone to attest it. Xu Ming, we need Yang Yilong to witness this. Can you notify him?"

He then looked toward Xu Ming, the supervisor standing nearby.

Xu Ming immediately nodded and said, "This matter involves the potential murder of two cultivators. If you can provide evidence, I can ask Yang Yilong to come over as a witness."

"The evidence is in the belly of that vile beast. If everything is as I’ve said, then He Jun’s two assistants were definitely eaten by that beast. Luckily, I’ve brought back the corpse of that Fierce Beast. Just cut open its stomach, take out the flesh for testing, and everything will be clear," Li Yi said.

"That makes sense. The truth can’t be faked. If that’s the case, we just need to open the stomach to find the evidence, even a single undigested bone can be DNA tested to know the truth. Fortunately, this medical facility has the necessary equipment. Wait here, go wash up and treat your wounds, I’ll arrange everything," Xu Ming assured, committed to handling the matter well.

"Alright, then I’ll wait here for the result," Li Yi said.

Xu Ming didn’t delay and immediately rushed off.

This matter was severe, concerning both a potential murder and the reputation of cultivators. Moreover, at such a critical juncture, if not handled well, it could lead to grave consequences.

"What, you brought back the corpse of that Fierce Beast?" At that moment, He Jun panicked.

But how could that be possible?

How could Li Yi have possibly killed that Fierce Beast?

He was a cultivator who hadn’t even opened his Spirit Medium...wait, no, it seemed he had indeed opened his Spirit Medium,

all of a sudden.

It was only then that He Jun noticed how bright Li Yi’s eyes were, shining brightly, a sign of entering the Spirit Medium Realm.

At that thought, a chill ran down his spine.

"No, it shouldn’t be. Even if he really had opened his Spirit Medium, he couldn’t possibly have beaten that Fierce Beast." Sitting on the hospital bed, He Jun’s face flickered uncertainly, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead.

Being proven to have caused the deaths of his teammates would ruin his life forever.

That was why he had initially tried to kill Li Yi as well,

so no one would know what he had done in the dangerous area.
