Chapter 232: Chapter 174 Moving House
"Nutrient solution, money, photo albums, property deeds, Mud Horse, human skin mask... Just taking some important things will do, the rest are unnecessary. After I move to my new home, I can buy new ones. It’s not going to cost much anyway."
Li Yi packed quickly and was carrying bags and packages of all sizes.
Just as he was about to leave, something caught the corner of his eye. He glanced towards a dark corner of the living room.
On one wall of the living room, the uneven surface cast shifting shadows, and at a glance, it looked as if three figures were standing there motionless. They appeared quite eerie, and vaguely, he felt as though they were watching him, which was quite unsettling.
However, when Li Yi changed his perspective, the light shifted and the three shadows disappeared.
"It’s just my imagination. But I almost forgot. I have to take the Hanging Man Spear with me."
Li Yi shook his head, and his gaze finally fell on the Hanging Man Spear. He then freed up one hand and used the Guiding Skill to direct the cosmic energy within his body.
As his palm glowed softly, he reached out to grasp the ethereal spear.
Just as he had anticipated.
The Hanging Man Spear was successfully grasped in his hand.
"Indeed it’s possible. Physical contact is not enough for these Netherworld Artifacts. It’s necessary to rely on cosmic energy to touch them, just like when I held the Ghost Head Big Saber back in the Four Seas and Eight Continents," Li Yi thought to himself.
He was moving house, and naturally, he couldn’t leave the Hanging Man Spear here. He had to take it to his new home.
Besides, with the supernatural events happening in the old city district, having the Hanging Man Spear with him could also serve for self-defense.
After ensuring nothing was left behind, Li Yi turned off all the water, electricity, and gas in the room, then locked the door. He estimated he wouldn’t return for a very long time.
This sudden move was somewhat hard for him to accept. After all, he had lived here for several years, going through the darkest times of his life. His memories of the place were profound. Plus, the house bore witness to the times when his grandparents were still alive...
But given the current situation, not moving would mean continuing to live here with significant risks.
One cannot only cling to the past; they must also look forward.
Li Yi quickly adjusted his feelings and, carrying his bags, left his old home.
"Lv Jue, let’s go. I’ve finished packing. Take me to the Peace Finance Building," said Li Yi as he got into the car.
"I know the place," nodded Lv Jue. "But last time I passed by, it was still under renovation. I’m not sure if it’s finished by now. By the way, Li Yi, you might want to call your decorator and ask if it’s suitable to move in. If it’s not ready, it’s not suitable to live there."
"Whether it’s suitable or not isn’t important. What matters is it’s close to AnDing District and therefore safer," Li Yi said. "But you remind me, I’ll call and ask about the building’s renovation progress."
With that, he picked up his cellphone and dialed Zheng Lan’s number.
Soon, the call connected, and a woman’s voice, amidst the noise of the renovation, came through: "Hello, is this Li Yi?"
"It’s me, Zheng Lan. I’d like to know how the renovations at Peace Finance Building are going. Is it ready for occupancy?" asked Li Yi.
"The main construction is already complete. Now there are just some finishing touches left, which can be done in a couple of days. There’s no problem with moving in. I’ve used environmentally friendly materials for the renovation, so there’s no air pollution issue. Would you like to come and see the site? I’m supervising the work right now," said Zheng Lan.
"Great, I’ll be right there," said Li Yi, before hanging up and putting down the phone.
"It seems your decorator is very reliable, less than a month and she got a whole building ready," Lv Jue remarked.
"She’s Zheng Gong’s cousin and an acquaintance at the investigative bureau. She’s helping out as a favor to a friend this time," Li Yi explained.
"No wonder," Lv Jue realized.
As they chatted, they soon arrived at the Peace Finance Building.
It was a stark contrast to the previously overgrown surroundings.
The area around the building had been newly landscaped, with many streetlights installed. In addition, there was a gate at the entrance to the building that prevented vehicle access without permission. Besides, the building’s exterior was renovated with freshly cleaned glass walls and missing parts replaced. The inside of the building was also brightly lit, a far cry from its previously abandoned look.
Upon Lv Jue’s arrival, because Zheng Lan had already received the message, the gate was immediately opened remotely.
"Li Yi, you’re quite extravagant, using a whole building as your home. Are you living there alone?" Seeing the new and sparkling building, Lv Jue couldn’t help but show an envious look.
"For now, it’s just my family and me," Li Yi replied, getting out of the car.
"Such a large building for one person? If it were haunted, no one would even be aware," Lv Jue commented.
"Li Yi!"
At that moment, a woman’s voice called out. Zheng Lan was seen in the building, smiling and greeting from afar, then quickly walked towards them.
"Zheng Lan," Li Yi nodded in response.
