Chapter 190: Chapter 150: Charm Persists

From this Jin Dafu’s mouth, Li Yi didn’t get any useful information. Although people in this world are aware of the existence of ghosts and spirits, it’s all superficial knowledge; they are aware of some taboos, but in their ordinary lives, it seems there is no involvement with ghosts and spirits.

Of course, there is also a possibility that matters related to ghosts and spirits have nothing to do with most ordinary people, as well as common martial artists. Perhaps only the warriors in the Upper Three Realms, or the top powers of this world, would have some understanding.

After all, Li Yi had heard from Fan Zhizhou, the City Lord of Sanyang City, that only a martial artist who has reached the Refining God level is qualified to be transformed into a ghost soldier or a Yin General.

A martial artist at the Refining God Realm is already a very top-notch strong person. There probably aren’t many throughout the Four Seas and Eight Continents.

However, Li Yi looked at the ghosts drifting toward him in the mountain forest and felt that these ghosts posed very little threat to him. They were not at all threatening, entirely different from some of the strange things he had encountered before.

Maybe ghosts also vary in strength.

Since these ghosts weren’t strong, it was a good opportunity to use them for practice to see if he could figure out some methods to deal with ghosts, especially since such risk-free practice opportunities were very rare. With this thought, Li Yi strode into the forest, walking towards the drifting ghosts.

"Jin Dafu, you stay put."

"Master, be careful, ghosts are elusive, and you mustn’t let your curiosity drive you to probe too deeply. If anything seems amiss, come back immediately. I will wait here," Jin Dafu said anxiously. He feared something might happen to Li Yi—after all, he had just acknowledged a new master, and he wouldn’t survive if he lost him now. The martial artists from Zhao’s Martial Arts Hall would surely flay him alive.

Li Yi didn’t pay him any heed and just kept walking into the forest.

Upon entering the forest, the temperature around him dropped significantly, and the air became humid.

His eyes shone; he could see ghosts. He now actively approached the nearest vengeful ghost.

The ghost seemed dazed, its body pale, translucent, and unclear. One couldn’t make out its feet or its face—just a human-shaped transparent outline, completely different from the fierce ghosts he had seen on Ghost Street, non-threatening. Moreover, the ghost was weaker than he had imagined, swaying with the wind, seemingly on the verge of dissipating.

Li Yi stood by its side. His inspiration didn’t give any warning, so he tried to reach out and touch it. His palm slid through the ghost’s body without contact, but he felt a chill on his hand.

"Even an Evolver at the inspiration realm can only see ghosts but can’t touch them. Under normal circumstances, cultivators can’t deal with ghosts. Let’s try another method."

Li Yi continued to ponder while the ghost in front of him seemed to have no intelligence, could not communicate, and had no reaction to his arrival.

"Let’s try the Eye-witness Skill."

Li Yi then used the Eye-witness Skill on the still and dazed ghost.

However, after the skill was used, the ghost suddenly began to twist and struggle, appearing to be in great pain. Soon after, its transparent body began to dissipate quickly, and in just a few seconds, the ghost completely vanished from sight.

"The Eye-witness Skill works... it can kill ghosts?" Li Yi’s expression changed slightly as he discovered something important.

He then tried to use the Eye-witness Skill on a more intact ghost nearby. Although the ghost suffered and twisted in pain, it didn’t dissipate. Its transparent body just faded a lot, becoming more fragile.

"Although the Eye-witness Skill can kill ghosts, its power is too weak. It’s effective against people, but not so much against stronger ghosts... But this is also right; the Eye-witness Skill is a technique devised by Cultivators in the Spirit Medium Realm. It is not perfect and has not formed a Cultivation System. It cannot get stronger through cultivation, but only through the strength of the Evolver’s own power, which makes this technique useless among cultivators but somewhat effective against the martial artists of the Four Seas and Eight Continents."

Li Yi shook his head, somewhat disappointed with the Eye-witness Skill.

But at that moment.

Perhaps because of the Eye-witness Skill he had just deployed, or maybe because his living aura was too strong, about five or six ghosts nearby suddenly started to charge at him rapidly. They seemed a bit frantic, as if intent on devouring him.

Seeing this, Li Yi was calm and composed. He reached into his clothes and pulled out a broken bronze knife coin.

The knife coin, a Mysterious Object, was also a type of weapon. He had heard from Wang Jian that it could deal with fierce ghosts, so it was a good time to test it out.

He gripped the knife coin and threw a punch.

At that moment, something bizarre happened. The hand that previously failed to touch the ghosts gained some kind of power from holding the knife coin and managed to punch an incoming ghost, causing it to dissipate on the spot.

"It really is useful," Li Yi was astonished. He threw another punch. With the knife coin just in his palm and not contacting the ghost, he was still able to touch the ghost.

The second ghost was instantly punched into oblivion.

"Mysterious Objects truly are the bane of fierce ghosts. What principle is this? There was no contact yet my fist could kill a ghost..." Li Yi pondered on, needing to master these techniques, as it would be very helpful for his future.

"Could it be the Energy Field of the Mysterious Object?"

An idea appeared in Li Yi’s mind.

Mysterious Objects carry their own Energy Fields, and ghosts might also be a manifestation of a special kind of energy. When the two collide, naturally, the Energy Field of the Mysterious Object is stronger. Therefore, the energy of the weaker ghost is shattered, so the ghost completely perishes.

This hypothesis seemed quite scientific.

"If it is really like this, then cultivators also have the potential to fight against ghosts," Li Yi suddenly remembered the Guiding Skill Sister Lin had given him when he first came to the Four Seas and Eight Continents.

The principle of the Guiding Skill is to channel the stored cellular energy within the cultivator’s body, focussing it at one point.

If Li Yi converged the Cosmic Energy within his body onto his fist, could he also tackle ghosts?

This thought immediately excited Li Yi.

He immediately gripped the Sword Coin and dispersed the remaining few ghosts, then turned and left the woods. He needed some time to practice the Guiding Skill before returning to the woods to find ghosts to confirm this. Right now, he wasn’t capable of channeling the Cosmic Energy from within his body.

But having figured out a method was Li Yi’s biggest gain from this attempt.

Jin Dafu, seeing his master Li Yi emerge unscathed from the woods, immediately heaved a sigh of relief.

"Master, are you all right?" he hurriedly approached.

"Nothing’s wrong, let’s go back. Some insignificant ghosts that can’t even hurt ordinary people are not worth investigating."

After Li Yi had spoken, he glanced at the mountain forest, decided not to continue exploring, and instead turned and rode his steed back to Sanyang City.

Back in the city, Li Yi arranged some trivial tasks for Jin Dafu, then returned alone to the Li Mansion.

As he arrived at the mansion on horseback, he noticed several carriages parked beside the entrance and several people waiting as if they were there to see him. They couldn’t enter the mansion because Li Yi had been out and they had been waiting at the door.

As Li Yi arrived, the people at the door immediately lit up and approached.

"Greetings to Mr. Li," said a woman in court dress.

She had a voluptuous figure and enchanting appearance with a seductive face, lightly made up, and now bowed elegantly, outlining a striking curve.

"Humph!"

Li Yi pulled on the reins of his horse, glanced over, and recognized her, "I saw you at the docks three days ago. You are the workshop master of Hua Fang... Hua San, right?"

"To think that Mr. Li would remember someone like me, I am truly flattered," Hua San said, her face showing a surprised delight.

"There’s no need for such insincere flattery. Tell me directly what it is you want. I need to return to my mansion for Cultivation and have no time to waste on trivial matters," Li Yi spoke, clearly uninterested in Hua San’s feminine wiles.

Hua San’s smile momentarily stiffened, then she gestured slightly.

Immediately, four young, beautiful, and graceful girls stepped out from one of the carriages.

"I’ve heard that Mr. Li has established his home here in Sanyang City. It’s unbearable to think of Mr. Li living alone in such an empty mansion, so I took the liberty of bringing four maids whom I’ve personally trained over the years to serve you. This way, Mr. Li will have handmaidens to attend to him and won’t be without care."

Hua San said with a smile, her eyes constantly roaming over Li Yi, as if gauging his reaction.

Li Yi glanced at them and asked, "How old are they?"

"Just turned fourteen, the eldest one is fifteen, all in the prime of youth," replied Hua San.

"That means they are just children, aren’t they? I have no interest in looking after kids. Take them back, and don’t try to flatter me in the future; I’m not buying it," Li Yi said as he moved on without looking back toward his mansion.

Hua San was taken aback by the young Li Yi’s dismissal of the girls for being too young.

She quickly followed him and continued, "Mr. Li, how can such a large mansion be without maids or servants? Tell me, what kind of maid do you want? I’ll find them for you and ensure your satisfaction."

Li Yi stopped and looked at her, "I have no interest in maids or servants. However, I notice that Master Hua still has her charm. Why not join my mansion to keep my bed warm?"

"This, this..."

Hua San was at a loss for words to Li Yi’s blunt statement.

"Ha ha."

Li Yi laughed and then went into the mansion.

Hua San intended to curry favor, but received a cold reception instead, feeling both embarrassed and annoyed as she stamped her foot on the spot. As one of the three major workshop masters and at the Blood Refining Peak, close to Refining Points, how could she possibly become someone’s personal warmer? Li Yi was clearly mocking her.

Wait a second.

An idea sparked in Hua San’s eyes as she reminisced over Li Yi’s words, and a curve appeared on her lips, "Could it be that the eldest brother of Zhao’s Martial Arts Hall actually wants me to warm his bed?"

After some thought, she considered it a real possibility.

She was, after all, a bona fide Oiran with outstanding beauty in her youth, captivating numerous Martial Artists, although she was nearly thirty now, and beauty fades with time.

Even so, she could still claim to possess enduring allure.

But standing outside the closed doors of the mansion, Hua San couldn’t just barge in and ask whether Li Yi’s comment was intentional or not.

"Let’s go."

After a moment of contemplation and increasingly complicated thoughts, Hua San quickly led her people away.
