908: Chapter 907: Piao Xue’s Determination 908: Chapter 907: Piao Xue’s Determination “Ancient Kingdom of Loulan!”

Wang Dadong and Piao Xue cried out in unison.

Unexpectedly, after searching high and low, the person turned out to be right where the lanterns were dim!

The Ancient City of Loulan, buried under the yellow sands, had actually been just beneath their feet all along.

Before they became petrified, they had even passed over the top of the Ancient City of Loulan.

A tremendous sandstorm had exposed the city buried dozens of meters below the ground—whether it was luck or divine will was impossible to say.

Unfortunately, while the Ancient City of Loulan had been found, out of the medical team of more than a dozen people, only Piao Xue and Wang Dadong remained; everyone else had turned into solid stone.

“Even if they can never live again, I will break Medusa’s curse!” Wang Dadong stated resolutely, his gaze icy as he looked at the dilapidated ruins of the ancient city.

“I will join you,” Piao Xue said softly.

For the first time, Piao Xue didn’t bicker with Wang Dadong but instead supported him.

Wang Dadong turned and slung Piao Xue’s marching backpack onto his own back, taking the lead and heading into the Ancient City of Loulan.

“Piao Xue, remember not to look at anything with a human head pattern,” Wang Dadong reminded her.

He had just checked and found that Piao Xue hadn’t fallen victim to Medusa’s curse.

It was a blessing amidst misfortune.

Stepping into the Ancient City of Loulan, the towering walls still conveyed the prosperous grandeur the city had once possessed.

Wang Dadong wasn’t there to admire the ancient ruins.

His focus was on finding anything related to Medusa’s image.

However, after walking several kilometers within the city, he hadn’t found a single object featuring Medusa’s iconic visage.

The Ancient Kingdom of Loulan had a history that spanned thousands of years.

If Medusa’s curse had truly originated here, why had it only begun to wreak havoc recently, instead of in earlier times?

Following an unsuccessful search, the two decided to head toward the tallest circular structure.

This was the King of Loulan’s palace.

Unfortunately, even in the King of Loulan’s palace, the pair failed to uncover any useful clues.

Aside from the palace, the most distinctive building in the ancient city was an octagonal round-domed earthen Buddhist Pagoda located in the western part of the city.

After spending over half an hour, the two entered the Buddhist Pagoda.

The pagoda was hollow inside, with a central area scattered with a pile of shattered stones, surrounded by spiraling staircases.

The entire structure seemed to serve merely as decoration.

The Buddhist Pagoda had nine levels and was in a state of severe disrepair, not even spiders had built webs there.

From the first level to the ninth, the pair discovered nothing peculiar, nor did they find even a single depiction of Medusa’s image.

Wang Dadong looked dejected.

Could it be that his initial assumption had been wrong?

Perhaps Medusa’s curse hadn’t originated from the Ancient City of Loulan.

Piao Xue suddenly picked up a small fragment of stone from the pagoda’s central area and began examining it closely.

The fragment wasn’t large, roughly the thickness of a thumb, pointed at one end, and faintly had two tiny circular spots on either side of the pointed tip.

Wang Dadong snatched the fragment from her hands, raising it ecstatically to show Piao Xue.

“Piao Xue, what do you think this resembles?”

“It looks like the head of a small snake,” Piao Xue replied after taking a closer look.

“Exactly!”

Wang Dadong began rummaging through the pile of broken stones and quickly found many more fragments resembling snakes’ heads.

Suddenly, Piao Xue picked up a fragment roughly the size of a palm and examined it.

One side of the fragment was remarkably smooth, with a curved contour.

In its upper-right corner, there was a small indentation resembling a human eye.

When Wang Dadong saw the fragment in Piao Xue’s hands, his expression changed drastically.

“Piao Xue, don’t look at it!”

But Piao Xue had already taken a glance.

The human eye-like indentation was so lifelike that it made her scalp tingle uncomfortably.

Wang Dadong immediately grabbed her hand and channeled Inner Strength into her body, checking her forehead to ensure that no image of Medusa’s shadowy tumor had appeared.

Only then did he let out a small sigh of relief.

If Piao Xue were to fall victim to the curse, it would almost be tantamount to total annihilation.

“What is this?” Piao Xue asked, startled by Wang Dadong’s reaction.

Wang Dadong took the fragment, inspected it, and said, “If I’m not mistaken, this originally belonged to a sculpture of Medusa’s face.

For some reason, it shattered, and this particular piece happens to be a fragment from her facial region.”

It was said that anyone who looked at Medusa’s face would be transformed into stone.

That was why Wang Dadong had reacted so strongly when Piao Xue picked up the fragment.

However, since she hadn’t succumbed to the curse, it seemed that Medusa’s curse only activated when someone saw her entire face.

What was puzzling, though, was that if mere visuals of Medusa’s face could cause petrification, how were these sculptures and engravings of her ever created in the first place?

The answers to these mysteries were likely lost in the sands of history.

For now, Wang Dadong and Piao Xue’s primary goal wasn’t to investigate the origins of the carvings or images.

They needed to locate the source of the curse and eradicate it entirely!

Having finally found something related to Medusa, Wang Dadong’s spirits lifted.

It was truly astonishing—how could a sculpture linked to Medusa of Greek mythology end up in the Ancient City of Loulan?

Suddenly, Wang Dadong noticed that beneath the pile of stone fragments there was a passageway!

“Piao Xue, step back a little.”

He directed Piao Xue to stand behind him and gently struck the fragments with a palm imbued with True Qi.

The shattered stones scattered away, revealing a pitch-black opening.

Piao Xue immediately retrieved a flashlight from her marching backpack, preparing to descend, but she was stopped by Wang Dadong.

“Piao Xue, I’ll go down alone,” Wang Dadong said firmly.

His instincts told him that this tunnel likely led to the root of the mystery.

There could be depictions of Medusa inside, and to avoid Piao Xue being cursed, he wanted her to remain outside.

“No way.

This is my mission.

I have the right to join,” Piao Xue replied, resolutely.

“Piao Xue, listen.

This is Medusa’s curse, not something to take lightly,” Wang Dadong said, frowning.

Normally, he wouldn’t mind Piao Xue disagreeing with or bickering with him, but this time he couldn’t allow her to act recklessly.

“If I can’t complete this mission, I might as well turn into stone myself,” Piao Xue muttered.

She didn’t say it outright, but the deaths of the four Ghost Doctors had deeply affected her.

She wasn’t a physician but a special forces soldier, and her mission this time had been to ensure the team’s safety.

Now, except for Wang Dadong, everyone else had turned to stone.

This meant her mission was an utter failure.

To say she wasn’t upset would be a lie.

Realizing Piao Xue was determined to proceed, Wang Dadong reluctantly agreed—but only on the condition that she would blindfold herself.
