The Personal Bodyguard of the Female CEO -
Chapter 771 - 771 769 The Magical Lighter
771: Chapter 769: The Magical Lighter 771: Chapter 769: The Magical Lighter In just a few minutes, Wang Dadong had finished washing all the dishes and cutlery.
Checking the time, it was already past three in the afternoon, nearing four, so Wang Dadong decided to return to the company.
Despite having the Female CEO’s backing, he knew better than to act too arrogantly; it was still important to maintain a low profile.
He could ignore the middle-aged woman, but out of respect for Lin Xiao, he felt inclined to give him face.
Seeing Wang Dadong was about to leave, Gu Han didn’t insist on him staying.
After all, there wasn’t much to do at her place, not even a television to watch; she genuinely felt embarrassed to keep Wang Dadong there any longer.
“By the way, how’s your job hunt going?” Wang Dadong suddenly remembered something just as he was leaving and turned back to ask.
“Still looking,” Gu Han murmured with her head down, gritting her teeth softly.
Wang Dadong frowned slightly.
It seemed that Gu Han still wasn’t willing to work as a model.
Since she didn’t want to, it wasn’t right for him to insist, so he shook his head and prepared to leave.
However, just as Wang Dadong reached the doorway, a furious shout came from behind him.
“Don’t you dare leave!”
The voice belonged to the Freckled Woman.
“What’s wrong, Sister Li?” Gu Han asked the Freckled Woman, puzzled.
Wang Dadong was also surprised, at a loss as to why the Freckled Woman was suddenly flying off the handle.
“Someone has stolen money from my home!” the Freckled Woman declared loudly.
Gu Han frowned slightly and said, “What does your lost money have to do with me?”
The Freckled Woman scoffed, “I’ve always kept money at home, and it’s never gone missing before, but now that this man has been around, the money disappears.
Tell me, how is that not your business?”
“What do you mean by that, Sister Li?” Gu Han’s face grew ugly.
The implication was clear from the Freckled Woman, though she didn’t specify: she was accusing Wang Dadong of taking her money.
“No meaning, just that until I find my money, no one leaves this house,” the Freckled Woman stated domineeringly.
Wang Dadong looked at the Freckled Woman impassively, offering no retort.
Having lived with the Freckled Woman as a roommate for not just a day or two, Gu Han was very familiar with her character; the woman was completely unreasonable.
Instantly, Gu Han said, “Sister Li, how much money have you lost?
I’ll compensate you, and then you let my friend leave first.”
Of course, Gu Han believed that Wang Dadong would never steal the money, but she didn’t want him to get dragged into this messy affair.
Thus, she decided to settle it herself with money, allowing Wang Dadong to leave first.
“Two thousand!” said the Freckled Woman.
“Two thousand, alright.
Wait, I’ll transfer the money to you right now,” Gu Han said, pulling out her phone.
Modern smartphones were incredibly powerful and could perform many tasks, including transferring money.
Although two thousand yuan was essentially two months’ living expenses for Gu Han, she was willing to pay it if it meant Wang Dadong wouldn’t be hassled by the Freckled Woman.
Perhaps the Freckled Woman would return the money to her later if the cash was found.
Hearing Gu Han say she would cover the amount, a flash of delight involuntarily appeared in the eyes of the Freckled Woman’s husband, but he quickly concealed it.
“Wait a minute.” Just as Gu Han was about to make the transfer, Wang Dadong suddenly spoke up to stop her.
“Brother Da Dong, you go ahead.
I can handle this,” Gu Han said.
Wang Dadong shook his head, “If there has been a thief in the home, obviously we have to find the thief.
Otherwise, if there’s a first time, there might be a second.”
“You can find out who the thief is?” the Freckled Woman expressed her doubt.
Wang Dadong nodded and replied, “If the person who stole the money is in this room, then I can find out who it was.”
“So tell us, who took the money?” the Freckled Woman was visibly skeptical of Wang Dadong’s words.
“If you want to know who took it, now is not the time.
We have to wait until it gets dark,” Wang Dadong said.
Although everyone was clueless about how Wang Dadong was going to find the thief, they decided to follow his lead and waited for nightfall at home.
“Brother Da Dong, I really am sorry.
I wanted to thank you, but instead, I’ve made it so you can’t even go home,” Gu Han said, a hint of regret flashing in her eyes.
Wang Dadong shook his head, indicating that it was okay.
Several hours later, it finally got dark.
“Now can you tell me who stole the money?” the Freckled Woman asked Wang Dadong.
Wang Dadong shook his head, “I don’t know who stole the money.”
The Freckled Woman’s brows furrowed instantly, “Are you playing me?”
“I don’t know, but it knows,” Wang Dadong said, pulling out a lighter from his pocket and pointing at it.
The woman laughed in disdain, “A lighter knows who stole the money?”
Wang Dadong smiled and said, “This lighter is not just any lighter.
If someone touches it, it will know whether that person has stolen money or not.”
“Oh?
And how is it supposed to tell us who took the money?” the woman was even more incredulous now.
As if this lighter could really be so magical as to know who stole the money, let alone speak up about it.
“Simple.
If the thief touches the lighter, it will automatically light up.
If not, there will be no reaction.
However, my lighter is quite shy; it will only work its magic in the dark,” Wang Dadong continued with his nonsense.
While nobody believed Wang Dadong’s claims, they all agreed to the test to prove their innocence.
Wang Dadong first took a frying pan from the kitchen, turned it upside down on the table, and then placed the lighter at the dark bottom of the pan.
“Turn off the lights.”
Once the lights were out, the room plunged into pitch darkness; they couldn’t see their hands in front of their faces.
“Okay, you can start touching now.”
Even in the dark, Wang Dadong was still able to faintly see what was happening.
Gu Han was the first to touch around on the pan, and eventually reached the lighter, but it didn’t ignite automatically.
The Freckled Woman touched it next, and the lighter stayed unlit, followed by a girl named Xiao Wei who also touched the lighter.
Only the Freckled Woman’s husband stood in front of the table, hesitating for a long time without touching it.
About a minute later, Wang Dadong asked, “Has everyone touched it?”
“We have.”
Everyone confirmed they had.
Then Wang Dadong turned the lights back on.
“Didn’t you say that if the thief touched your lighter, it would automatically ignite?
You’re not going to tell me the thief isn’t among us, are you?” the Freckled Woman said with a sneer.
But Wang Dadong just smiled slightly and said, “No, the thief is among us.”
“Then who is it?” Gu Han looked puzzled.
Wang Dadong had said before that, if the thief touched the lighter, it would ignite, but the lighter hadn’t lit up; how did Wang Dadong know who the thief was?
Wang Dadong’s gaze swept over everyone before finally settling on the Freckled Woman’s husband.
