Chapter 284: Chapter 198: Transition
No wonder that guy was so fearless.
Even if they retreated to the armory, they could swiftly return to the Energy Core in a short time, not to mention the group of mutants acting as their eyes and ears.
If the humans made any small moves, they would kill everyone instantly.
Without the intervention of Supernatural Power, the humans on the Deep Space couldn’t possibly combat this most formidable Wraith—the only solution might be to initiate the Deep Space’s destruction protocol and perish together.
...
The maintenance work began quickly. It was said that if one was going to put on a show, they had to be believable. So, the speed of maintenance couldn’t be too fast. They had to thoroughly inspect the Energy Core, calm the Wraith while also avoiding any hidden damages.
Inside the vast Energy Core, the annihilation reactor stood like a towering mountain of steel, so tall that it was hard to see the top even when looking up.
Zhou Yuan followed behind others, pretending to check layer after layer of the annihilation reactor. Before long, they indeed found a damaged spot. A pit had melted into the shell, and the wiring inside was burnt out and broken, charred black.
"The circuitry here is broken; it needs to be reconnected," a team member said, putting down the toolbox and taking out various instruments.
Zhou Yuan observed, "It looks like it was hit by an Energy Gun."
"It’s a battle scar from when the Wraith invaded back then,"
The team member started connecting the circuits, a faint trace of sorrow flashing through his eyes. He said softly, "We suffered heavy casualties in that battle. Only a dozen of us managed to escape. My teacher, classmates, friends, my crush... all of them stayed here forever."
Zhou Yuan couldn’t help but glance at the pitch-black mutants below. They were long dead, devoid of life, their souls obliterated, now just puppets controlled by the Wraith.
But to the others present, they had once been mentors, friends, classmates, even lovers.
Upon learning they needed to form a suicide squad to enter the Energy Core, those who had escaped the Energy Core years ago joined without hesitation.
Perhaps it was to catch a final glimpse of their loved ones, perhaps to avenge a deep-seated hatred, or possibly out of a self-sacrificial spirit of "die if I must, but no one else should"... they held different reasons but came for the same goal.
However, those familiar, beloved faces had now been transformed into filthy, hideous mutants...
Zhou Yuan could feel a deep sorrow, bitterness, and rage emanating from everyone’s souls.
But they were all very restrained, to a nearly pathological degree, suppressing their turbulent emotions with absolute clarity of mind, making themselves function like cold, relentless cogs.
To be able to restrain themselves to such an extent showed a powerful inner strength. If they could become extraordinary persons, given time, they would surely achieve great things.
Two hours later.
The maintenance work completed, the central command room issued a test-run order.
After the test run, the energy reactor operated stably and was in good condition for space jumping.
So, the plan was about to begin.
S1’s cold, serious voice rang out from the broadcast, "All members, attention, the Deep Space will soon undergo a space jump, countdown thirty seconds."
"Forcefield shield activated."
"Annihilation reactor running at full power."
"Space jump engines engaging..."
"Three... two... one!"
BOOM!
The annihilation reactor roared to life, emitting a thunderous roar as terrifying energy surged like a volcanic eruption.
The entire starship abruptly accelerated, plunging into the invisible vortex formed ahead of its hull.
At first, all was pitch black, then blinding light erupted as if a star exploded right before their eyes, displaying brilliant and vivid colors.
Space was compressed, kneaded, stretched, twisted... The bodies of everyone also changed accordingly.
It felt like an instant, yet also felt like centuries had passed, and suddenly everything returned to normal.
·
Artificial simulated ecosystem, Wasteland World.
The sudden, earth-shaking tremors incited widespread fear, reminding everyone of the cataclysm that once destroyed the entire world.
When it was over, they looked up in confusion, only to fall into an even deeper stupor.
They saw the stars, dazzling and radiant, that they hadn’t seen in over a century...
·
Utilizing the distraction caused by the space jump, the emergency lockdown protocol quietly initiated; layers of shields rose, protecting the annihilation reactor, and it was already one-third completed!
Thus, the second space jump began.
Another incredibly torturous experience, like being thrown into a washing machine, losing almost all sense of time and space in the prolonged disorientation.
A moment later, the jump ended, and the barrier had risen to two-thirds!
Moreover, the emergency lockdown protocol at the rear of the starship had also initiated, preventing the Wraiths from escaping. The decision-makers on Deep Space made a bold decision—to completely annihilate the Wraiths on the Deep Space!
Whoosh—
Inside the Energy Core, a sudden violent wind swept through.
Zhou Yuan took action, activating the True Dragon Breathing Skill and charging towards the strongest Level 6 mutant, left hand initiating the Equal Life Barrier, right hand wielding the Eastern Town Rod, activating its resonant power and smashing it down fiercely.
A fiery Barrier unfurled, the Level 6 mutant’s power drastically reduced, and with the burst of an airwave, its body exploded into a mist of blood, at the center of which floated a chilling, sinister void of dark.
Simultaneously, a dozen team members suddenly had a viscous dark substance rise at their feet, engulfing them.
Then, a shadow identical to Zhou Yuan, holding the Daybreak Shield, appeared, releasing endless celestial light.
Brilliant light surged like a tide, flooding the space, and the void of darkness in front of Zhou Yuan was instantly annihilated, reduced to ashes.
Other mutants screamed in agony, their bodies exuding wisps of black smoke, burning away in the intense light.
In an instant, the residual energy of the Wraiths was incinerated clean, those mutated corpses returned to their original forms but quickly shriveled, decayed, and turned into piles of skeletons, as if experiencing a century of time in a moment, falling to the ground one after another.
"Good, so far everything is going well."
First, they sprang into action to kill the strongest Level 6 mutant to prevent any mishaps, while protecting the team members, and casting endless celestial light to kill the remaining mutants and completely free the Energy Core...
Everything was going according to plan.
Zhou Yuan’s thoughts raced; without any hesitation, he dashed out like an arrow, moving through the passage with wind and thunder accompanying him.
Heading straight for the dark Wraith charging angrily from the armory.
