Chapter 219: Chapter 152: Crap, Cheating!
"Someone’s coming."
He had already cast the Group Invisibility Skill, making everyone hide, but this was actually just a futile move because the sunstone had dispersed the poisonous fog around them. Anyone with a bit of experience could figure out that the vanishing poison fog indicated a hidden ambush.
But that was true for "humans"; most monsters lacked that level of intelligence.
After a while, a figure holding a lantern emerged from the thick fog, draped in a large magic robe, with the face hidden under the hood.
The lantern’s design was very old, the metal already rusted, and the glowing element inside wasn’t a sunstone but an unknown flame.
The figure, possibly a mage, was slightly taken aback upon entering and seeing the frozen vast remnants of the unknown mutant. Some parts were freezing, while others emanated intense heat, seemingly oblivious to the already dispersed poison fog.
[LV69 Lantern Mage]
[He was a mage who, after leaving the Magic Academy, had been corrupted by demonic qi, severely warping his mind. Because the Magic Academy was sealed by a barrier, he couldn’t return and could only wander outside, seeking a way back to the academy.
He carried a key fragment on him.]
Zhou Yuan’s heart raced, and he quickly relayed the information to the others through the Mind Communication Technique.
"I’ll sneak over and drop the Anti-Magic Dummy, then we’ll all jump him together."
Zhou Yuan stealthily darted out.
The Lantern Mage was still fixated on the unknown mutant’s corpse, seemingly amazed, not noticing anything approaching in the air.
Though his perception wasn’t weak, Zhou Yuan had been trained by Chen Guangxi, mastering his movements to perfection without making any sound or even stirring a breeze. Coupled with being invisible, the Lantern Mage naturally didn’t notice him.
To be extra cautious, Zhou Yuan circled behind the Lantern Mage and, as he got close enough, promptly placed down the Anti-Magic Dummy.
Simultaneously, he raised the Steel Rose and loaded the Armor-Piercing Bullet.
Bam!
The bullet shot towards the Lantern Mage’s head, several layers of magic shields automatically activated, the Armor-Piercing Bullet tearing through the first four shields but unable to break the next four.
The Lantern Mage was startled, quickly turning around, his empty hand bending into a claw, engulfed in blinding lightning arcs.
7th-Tier Magic: Lightning Claw!
In that instant, the Anti-Magic Dummy shot out a red beam, hitting the Lantern Mage. The flickering lightning arcs vanished instantly, and the brewing Lightning Claw was interrupted.
"Spell Counter?" The Lantern Mage was shocked, immediately retreating, trying to get out of the magic device’s range.
Behind him, Huo Yan Luo and the others moved.
Jiang Wuming manipulated Gravity Rings, pressing from top and bottom, causing the Lantern Mage to halt, subjected to terrifying gravity pressure, like being dragged into the deep sea, making even lifting a finger extremely difficult.
"So tough." Jiang Wuming frowned. The simultaneous pressure of the top and bottom gravity should’ve squashed even metal flat, yet the Lantern Mage remained unmoved. Was this really the body of a mage?
Huo Yan Luo slashed with a Flame Sword, the Lantern Mage instinctively using magic to defend, but as soon as the spell began to form, the Anti-Magic Dummy detected and automatically initiated a spell counter, interrupting it.
The scorching blade cut through, severing the Lantern Mage at the waist, his health bar immediately dropping by one-third.
Flames raged, turning his large magic robe to ashes, revealing a shocking sight to everyone.
The Lantern Mage stood naked, covered entirely in eyes!
Even his face had nearly ten pairs of eyes, irregularly scattered in various directions, blinking continuously, watching everyone.
Bam bam bam! The Anti-Magic Dummy fired over ten spell counter beams in a row, interrupting his gathering Spiritual Shock.
"This is amazing!" Huo Yan Luo exclaimed. Zhou Yuan had really bought the right thing!
With a loud shout, she cleaved down with her Flame Sword, splitting the Lantern Mage’s upper half in two along the middle. Yet, even suffering such a grievous injury, he still wasn’t dead.
Fortunately, the Lantern Mage had lost the ability to resist. Everyone’s relentless attacks finally took him down.
The entire team leveled up to 65.
"Could the unknown mutant’s eyes all be on him? No... the number isn’t right..." Jiang Wuming stroked his chin, "There must be another expert."
Zhou Yuan stepped forward, picking up the equipment dropped by the Lantern Mage.
There was an old lantern, a magic wand inlaid with a blue gemstone, and a key fragment.
The blue gemstone magic wand could increase the damage of ice skills, perfectly suited for Bai Lang.
As for the old lantern, its shell wasn’t important, the flame inside was.
[Holy Fire, sacred flame obtained from the Goddess Temple, capable of dispelling all impurities.]
"This flame is from the Goddess Temple." Zhou Yuan recalled the game map. "There doesn’t seem to be a temple here, though?"
"It could be a private collection or a treasure from the Magic Academy?"
"Anyway, it’s ours now," Jiang Wuming looked at the key fragment. "And we got a fragment. Now we need just two more."
"Maybe we don’t need to bother." Zhou Yuan chuckled, using the Lesser Restoration Skill on the key fragment!
A great amount of spirituality drained, and miraculously, the metal fragment in his hand began to regenerate, slowly restoring to a complete, slender golden key.
Zhou Yuan felt dizzy, having consumed too much spirituality. He chugged several alchemy potions to replenish his mana.
Everyone else was already stunned.
"Wow, that’s busted!" Jiang Wuming exclaimed.
Wasn’t this cheating? Skipping the whole process of collecting key fragments!
"This ability is awesome; is it time travel or something?" Huo Yan Luo examined the key carefully.
"Of course not, it’s just some kind of repair skill," Zhou Yuan modestly explained, "obtained from an exceptional event."
"Can it repair anything?" Bai Lang asked.
"Probably, but it requires certain fragments, the more the better."
Bai Lang pondered for a moment, then took out a broken jade pendant. "This is a jade pendant my mother gave me; I accidentally broke it when I crossed the narrative barrier."
"Say no more, hand it over."
Zhou Yuan generously accepted the pendant, using Minor Repair Skill to restore it to completeness.
Bai Lang received the perfectly restored pendant, his eyes moistening slightly since it was the only memento of his family.
He quickly composed himself, storing the pendant carefully, then respectfully cupped his hands. "Thank you so much, I couldn’t be more grateful!"
"Just a small matter." Zhou Yuan waved it off with a smile.
"So... should we head straight to the Magic Academy or level up some more?" Jiang Wuming asked for opinions.
Everyone had witnessed the power of the Anti-Magic Dummy, making it incredibly easy to deal with mages.
However, the Anti-Magic Dummy’s range was limited, and the Magic Academy was full of mages, so counteracting all the magic wasn’t realistic, especially since many spells could take effect from kilometers away.
"Of course, we’ll level up." Zhou Yuan had to hunt monsters to collect materials and make money. Even at their current level, entering the Magic Academy was still risky.
"In that case... there’s a corpse dragon to the north; let’s slay it." Beastman Will suggested.
"Absolutely, let’s go."
Dragons were full of treasures, even corpse dragons had plenty of valuable parts.
The group quickly left the small town, the sunstone’s glow retreating, letting the poison fog cover the area once more.
Within the swirling endless fog, a pair of cold, indifferent eyes that had been watching silently followed them.
