Chapter 124: Chapter 98: Mere Steel, How Can It Compare to a Well-Trained Body_2
The Eyes of Identification’s prompt made Zhou Yuan’s heart jolt.
West stepped forward to push the door, but it did not budge; it was locked. He then kicked it fiercely, bang!
The entire door was kicked off with great force, embedding into the wall at the end of the corridor, dust flying everywhere.
As the door opened, wisps of green poisonous mist floated out from the room.
Everyone quickly retreated.
"Let me handle it."
Hong Fangqi waved his magic wand, the transparent crystal at its tip glowing brightly. A gust of wind howled forth, blowing the poisonous mist back into the room.
The airflow swirled, forming a vortex with strong suction, drawing all the poisonous mist from the room into a round glass orb, sealing it inside.
Clang, the glass orb fell, rolling a few times before bumping into a head.
It was a twisted face, filled with pain and despair.
Looking around, the entire room was filled with bodies, all completely naked, wearing collars around their necks.
[Control Collar, a prohibited alchemical tool by the Control Bureau and the Alchemy Association, yet some alchemists secretly manufacture it due to its high profit margin. It can only be used on ordinary people. Wearers obey their master’s commands while retaining their normal consciousness—what a vile device.]
Zhou Yuan squinted slightly. The presence of the poisonous mist indicated that these servants were intentionally killed.
Kevin counted the bodies on the ground, exactly 34: "Servants rarely all gather in the dormitory, even during sleep hours, someone would be on duty. This means they were called here.
After they arrived in the dormitory, the person remotely closed the door and turned off the ventilation system, releasing the poisonous mist to kill them all.
And only Raphael had such authority."
"It wasn’t Raphael," West said calmly, "he still doesn’t know about the incident here."
"Are you sure?"
"I’m sure." West nodded.
"If it’s not Raphael...then it must be the lab’s emergency protocol. Once there’s an accident in the lab, it prioritizes killing the villa’s servants to prevent the virus or mold from using them as carriers to spread." Kevin analyzed.
His tone paused, and his expression became serious, "Since that’s the case, there should also be measures against intruders, like traps. We might have been lucky not to encounter any earlier, everyone needs to be careful from now on."
Indeed.
Zhou Yuan’s gaze shifted to the side, and a remark popped up:
[This seemingly exquisite lion head plaster sculpture, valued at tens of thousands, is actually a deadly flamethrower trap. As soon as it senses someone in front of it, it will shoot out high-temperature flames.]
"Since everyone’s dead, we can only rely on our strength to find the lab."
Kevin gestured towards West, "Uncle, you’re the strongest, lead the way, okay?"
West nodded, moving to the front. A few steps ahead of him lay the lion head flamethrower trap.
Zhou Yuan contemplated briefly, not giving a warning. He wanted to see if the other party could react in time, testing this "cleaner’s" strength.
Whoosh!
As West stepped in front of the lion head flamethrower trap, a crimson flame shot out from the lion’s mouth. The temperature was so high that even Zhou Yuan, at the back, felt the heatwave.
Clang!
West raised his arm, and a greenish-blue shield resembling an exoskeleton instantly unfolded, blocking the fiery assault.
"Biological augmentation, and highly advanced at that, fused with his body, becoming a part of it. This should render [Designated Disarmament] ineffective..." thoughts flashed through Zhou Yuan’s mind.
Just as West was about to destroy the trap, the flames abruptly stopped with a "click."
"Huh?"
The four were startled.
The trap was disarmed.
"It wasn’t me," Zhou Yuan spoke first.
"Nor me," Hong Fangqi added immediately.
"It shouldn’t be. Why would the trap shut off automatically..." Kevin was puzzled, evidently not his doing, then he had a guess.
"There could be survivors in the lab!"
"Are you sure it’s ’people’?" Hong Fangqi said ominously, "I feel it might be mold-infected mutants."
"Alright, mold-infected mutants then." Kevin agreed, thinking it unrealistic for survivors to be in the contaminated lab, as even they would struggle to survive.
"If the mutants disarmed the trap, their intention is clear—to let us find the lab."
Kevin chuckled, "After the incident, the emergency protocol would completely seal the lab. Only the highest authority from Raphael can lift the lock. The mutants want to use us to escape."
"They won’t get out," West said blandly, his words few but impactful.
"Well, I have nothing more to add then. Let’s keep going."
They continued exploring the villa, searching for the lab’s location.
The Eyes of Identification had long started guiding Zhou Yuan, but since West was leading, he refrained from showing it, intending to "accidentally" discover the lab.
As they entered a lounge, suddenly, shrill urgent alarms rang without warning.
Shhh!
The lounge walls suddenly opened, and ferocious combat robots made of steel emerged from the walls, their eyes lighting up with crimson murderous intent.
Buzz—the energy engines roared at full capacity.
"What the heck? The emergency protocol has been triggered again?" Kevin was bewildered.
"I’ll take care of these six, the rest are yours."
Clang!
West’s arms each extended a mantis blade, its edge sharp, glowing red, enveloped in a fine, high-heat electric arc.
He swung once, effortlessly slicing a combat mecha in half at the waist, spewing a shower of sparks.
"Wow, that’s awesome?"
Zhou Yuan’s eyes widened; it was so cool, he thought he needed one too!
"Big brother and sister, I’m not good at fighting, it’s all yours." Kevin shrank behind Zhou Yuan with a laugh, shamelessly calling them brother and sister despite being older.
Hong Fangqi’s face fell, and Kevin quickly corrected himself, "I mean handsome and beautiful..."
"The left side’s mine, and the right side’s yours, okay?" Zhou Yuan asked.
"Mister, I’m Tier 3, you’re Tier 2, alright."
Hong Fangqi pouted and rushed forward, waving his wand.
Rushed forward!
"Aren’t you a Mage?!" Zhou Yuan and Kevin were stunned.
Boom!
Hong Fangqi’s magic wand ignited with magenta flames. He swung it like a baseball bat, smashing a combat mecha to pieces.
"A Mage’s ultimate skill is close-combat brawling, hahahaha!" Hong Fangqi laughed, swinging the wand like a baton, making it even more dazzling with the flame enchantment.
On his side, Zhou Yuan was even more straightforward, not even activating Protective Gang Qi, punching a combat mecha to bits with pure strength, shards flying.
Steel was no match for a well-trained body!
These combat mechas were fragile as foam before the extraordinary persons, taking less than thirty seconds to defeat, leaving a pile of wreckage, sparks flying.
"Something’s off, everyone,"
Zhou Yuan scratched his chin, "are the lab mutants trying to let us in or stop us?"
He paused, "Or... both?"
