Chapter 171: Chapter 171 - Some People Think My Tongue Is Acid, Others Know It’s Sweet
In the bedroom of the Goltbred estate, a certain scheming cultivator kept getting asked follow up questions and having to pause to concisely lecture her spouse. They’d already been in the room for fifteen minutes!
"So what use does it have now that you... sealed it?"
A set of strong fingers were steadily brushing her wife’s brown hair as the Yecine sat there with closed eyes. It made the girl laying on her lap take longer to compile her thoughts.
"That’s... uh, the shortest thing to say is that I could always try to find a way to make use of almost anything. If I have enough time and reason."
"Okay. You’re certain we shouldn’t get rid of it?"
"It falls in the category of being better to know where it is than not. Especially since it might be useful to trade in our future."
"Hm... who would we trade with?"
’Ugh, if I couldn’t feel her actual curiosity and confusion... I’d think she was doing this on purpose.’
Elua just wanted Qat to kiss her already... even once was fine~
---
Sevra ran her fingers along the edge of the paper she had sketched on.
"The stories you told me when I was small... the Acid-Tongued Villain would melt entire cities that defied her..."
Tarem sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Those were just tales, sister. Exaggerations passed down until they barely resembled truth. There are no concrete records. The girl I met was... well, enthusiastically sweet, if anything."
He remembered the few times he stood in for Sevra because she was busy with other Guild work. He hadn’t sensed anything that strange. If the woman hadn’t discovered the connection the heiress had to the unusual brooches that had been put out in the world, this conversation wouldn’t be happening.
"Do you remember the one about the merchant who tried to cheat her? How she smiled and thanked him for the trade before laughing and revealing she’d already dissolved his entire warehouse... he had to go on the run from debtors."
Her brother winced at the point she was trying to make.
"I shouldn’t have told you so many of those stories. It was a bad influence."
"You’re speaking to me like I’m a child."
"It’s your imagination. You’re stressing yourself out."
"But that’s exactly how she *dealt* with me at the wedding! Perfect politeness while dismantling everything I tried. The surface looked warm - but the inside was cold."
She remembered being slammed on the ground so suddenly that she should have been injured. By a surge of essence controlled Air at that, as if it was a sort of final humiliation.
"Then she ended it like she’d calculated exactly how much pressure to apply. I’ve never felt that sort of disparity, Tarem. I can’t get over it."
The man had heard the same sort of thing every time it came up he could only put aside the specifics and admonish her.
"In the end, you’re still the one that started it. Everything you are worried about is mostly your fault... but it’s also mine."
"No... I mean, I know, but-"
The brother interrupted her.
"You tried to interrupt her happiness on her wedding day. The girl still didn’t want to fight you seriously. You didn’t come away hurt. She even told you things were at a blank slate between you."
He sighed and rubbed the top of her head.
"Just forget about it. Not everything has to connect to ancient prophecies and dark myths. But even if you try, she is connected to someone now. She is stable."
"The elder believed-"
"I don’t care what you are about to say because I’ve heard it all. I just want to find him."
He didn’t like talking over her so much,
"Look, even if she actually is who you think she is, dwelling on it won’t help us find him. He disappeared before she was born. Let’s focus on what we can actually do."
The scout nodded reluctantly as he waved the letter he held again. Though deep inside, she felt that Investigating strange spiritual phenomena might be exactly what had caused their elder’s disappearance in the first place.
---
Ondua quietly sat on his side of the bed. He’d been caught a little off guard having to deal with Qatrand showing up so late and was still processing the complexity of what he’d witnessed in the dream. Both in what was visible and the conversation he had.
Yatrel rose and scooted lovingly to his side. She let her fingers absently comb through his brown hair as she waited for him to gather his thoughts. His wife was quite aware why he hadn’t come to lay down yet.
He struggled with what to first talk about but finally took a deep breath and started.
"She knew it was a dream."
"Really? Well, we’ve seen some hints of her spirit so that might not be that strange."
He decided to skip over his feeling that his daughter realizing when his Astralism was in effect meant she was stronger in that field of energy than him. That was something he could research later.
"She had a mirror floating above her head the whole time we talked. Though it was more like looking into a window."
"I don’t understand, dear?"
He tried to explain the strange way it had shown the ’other’ face of their daughter instead of actually reflecting directly. She asked a few more questions but ultimately understood his description.
Though she was a little sad that the way she appeared in the dream was as an older form... it made sense - Elua was too precocious!
His wife’s hands paused their intimacy. Years ago she had been told by the young girl that she had been concerned about Ondua seeing her differently. Ever since their eldest came back, she had been opening up more on her real self.
"Did it trouble you to see that?"
"No, actually. It helped me better understand what she told me before - about wanting to be the person we see."
Yatrel resumed stroking his hair, though her mint eyes held a distant look. She hummed softly while thinking of their daughter’s cryptic comments over the years and her recent activities.
"What else did you see?"
"A copse of trees. The two eldest reached for each other. Onya’s was not far away. And... there were two more grown a little larger, completely intertwined."
She could hear the smile in his voice. Her reddish blonde hair tickled his neck as she leaned her head in closer and rested her head on his shoulder. Her lips parted with just as much happiness.
"Let me guess - our eldest and her spouse?"
"...There were even tiny saplings at their base."
Ondua’s low voice carried some paternal distress and it grew when Yatrel’s soft laughter filled their bedroom.
"Already planning our grandchildren? That’s rather bold of her."
He kept talking until he felt like he had covered everything, including their house guest showing up. She convinced him that everything would be fine and to just lay down. He was clearly tired and affected by the use of his ability this time.
"I’ll go make sure they are behaving. Just leave it to me, dear."
The brunette man didn’t argue. As lenient as she could be with certain behaviors, he trusted she would back him on his concern.
---
Elua broke their kissing after close to seven minutes. Mostly because she had a bad feeling in her heart. She quickly rolled her body off her husband-wife to get a little distance to cool down. She faced away and bit down on the side of her hand.
Of course that just led to her reflecting on it all again.
When they started it was with her seated on the tall girl’s lap. She wrapped her arms around the beautifully muscled neck and began gently stealing soft and simple kisses back and forth between looking into each other’s eyes.
They deepened after a minute of that, with Qat exploring the kissing techniques her little teacher had been bringing her to understand. The experienced kisser added pleasing tugs of suction on the lip to the repertoire of her ’fortress’.
By four or five minutes, the Yecine had fallen back on the bed. She held physically onto the hands that had started touching her waist. The brunette knew she was doing risky things, so with a little mental effort she just entwined their fingers as they kept kissing.
Then the girl successfully fooled her mother with the illusion she prepared. Thinking they were quietly asleep, the woman just left quickly. The success emboldened the illusionist further and for the last minute of making out, Elua had been showing off the melting feeling of a nimble tongue.
And sucked on the tip of her beloved’s enough that Qat’s tightened grip and cautiously tensed body started to soften. Which lead to the moment of clarity that she was tricking more than just her parents. She was taking advantage of her partner and herself...
The blonde staring up at the ceiling of her wife’s bedroom started to rub her eyes with her palms. She had learned many things on this night, though the strongest lesson had just been taught.
"I need to be more vigilant. No more open ended promises of intimacy like that."
"That’s probably a good idea. I’ll take advantage of them. Mother came to check on us and I tricked her so we didn’t have to stop."
The pair were quiet for a while, just the sound of breathing in the room, until the sheets rustled as Qatrand shifted onto her side and hugged her cute wife. After reflecting on what went ’wrong’, she felt she needed to be the first to recover and move on so she could be relied on next time.
"So that was your plan. Ondua was never going to show up."
"No, he might have. But I would have tried to keep you too distracted to notice."
As the one who hadn’t actually realized the door had been opened, the swordswoman could only admit in her heart that the scheme had worked. It didn’t surprise her. It did feel like a bad idea to praise her El this time.
"Let’s just try to go to sleep?"
A soft hum of affirmation came from the small pile of urges in her arms. She would endure the misery for a while... but not as intentional punishment.
’Thinking of a cold bath isn’t working!’
