Chapter 107: Chapter 107 - Invisible Layers of Passion & Priority
The swordswoman’s posture shifted as her body language conveyed a readiness to act on whatever her wife had in mind. The last time she caught her El stuck pondering like this, their Starbloom ceremony was sabotaged. It was a fresh concern... and one she was certain not to forget.
"What do you need, El?"
Qatrand er Yecine asked softly with a low tone of voice that carried both curiosity as well as support. The pair of orphans shared a glance to check that the other was seeing the same thing. They’d simultaneously grown startled by the subtle - but powerful - sight of the tall cultivator so gently bothered over the needs of their master!
"We should ensure the travel safety of our wedding gifts. Especially considering some of the more... unique items we received."
The raven haired teenager nodded in agreement, understanding immediately what the girl was implying. It made sense to her now why she felt the same as before that event, as her El was thinking *something* about it. A small sense of satisfaction rippled through her spirit at being right... or *close enough*.
"If you want to go to the beach, then it is a good idea to deal with that. Do you have a plan in mind?"
The heiress ’smiled’ as she turned and looked up at her ’fortress’. Behind it was a bit of a complicated feeling that she kept buried deep... because it wasn’t really a problem so much for the spiritualist, as such. It just meant that she could request for a kiss soon!
’How scandalized some of those ancient Guilds would be, to see her spirit so constantly fondling mine. It’s really a good thing that no one has very advanced control of their spiritual sense, here... though some day my disciples might see this...’
She forcefully shrugged off that embarrassment before answering her beloved.
"Indeed. I believe leaving it to my father would be the best choice. His protection will be more than adequate - and it will give him peace of mind to be involved. I’m sure my mother left some words as he saw her off."
The reborn cultivator turned to Nohre and Fusand. An ’apologetic’ look graced her features, despite not being particularly sorry for making decisions on a whim.
"We’ll need to make a brief detour to find my father and discuss our matter. I hope you don’t mind the slight delay in our training."
The disciples shook their heads in unison, feeling plenty interested to follow her lead.
"Come along, then."
The four teenagers set off to search for Ondua around the venue housing. The illusionist let her thoughts drift back and forth between what sort of wise things to say today and what sort of way she could tease her father when they found him.
’I’ll ask for my kiss from Qat in front of him!’
Her steps became far more purposeful as they sought out the poor man. The Yecine following her sighed audibly, feeling the shift as much as seeing it. The responsibility of rebuking and apologizing for her wife’s behavior if she went too far settled comfortably on her shoulders.
The group found Ondua er Goltbred walking towards the way they came from. His imposing figure was softened as always by the warm smile he wore. His gaze swept over them all until he was sure he met each of their eyes, before addressing his daughter and son-in-law.
"Funny coincidence. I was looking for you two. There’s a matter that requires attention."
The brunette tilted her head while wondering if something was happening in the background. Her senses swept outward, finding the plateau mostly empty except for the hired staff.
"What is it, dad?"
"We need to discuss the safekeeping of your gifts. Are you going to be able to keep a good eye on them while bringing everything home?"
Elua turned to Qatrand, and a bit of literal silent conversation passed between them. A temporary Vacuum Layer encapsulated the pair of new spouses. The set of orphans and the brunette man blinked at the sight of lips moving without sound before looking awkwardly at each other.
Before they could strike up a conversation of their own, one of the newlyweds stepped forward. She saluted him first, but eased her stance into a more personal one.
"We’ll entrust the chest to you, sir... Father. Your protection will be more than adequate."
"Make sure to take care of it all~"
"O-oh? I mean, of course! You can leave it to me. I’ll take them back when I leave soon. About that..."
The heiress noticed her father’s gaze lingering on her spouse. It didn’t take her long to come up with a possibility.
’Ah, of course.’
"Son, I’m afraid you’re needed elsewhere. A mission from the Ironclad Order arrived by messenger asking for you at your soonest possible moment. I don’t mind delaying-"
"I understand. Thank you for informing me. I’ll go at once."
The Yecine wouldn’t let the man cover for her. Not because she didn’t trust him or because she looked down on his offer. Instead, she was prepared to leave in order to affirm her commitment to her duty as a cultivator, a member of her Guild, and as the next heir of her family.
’A reckoning for the things I’ve done to show I cherish her tallied against my sincerity to our core values. I will make it work.’
The brunette stepped close, her dress shifting into a show of its reality that only her husband-wife could see. Its metallic sheen glinted in the late morning light as her hands reached out to grab at the swordswoman’s wrists.
"Go with my blessing, my fortress. I’ll be thinking of you. I always do. However, you owe me something right now... for all the touching and squeezing you have constantly done to me this morning."
Mint eyes rose a bit closer as she stood on her tiptoes. The taller girl’s cheeks colored, before leaning down and giving out the kiss she ’owed’. Qat managed a small smile through the heat in her ears before departing... stepping quickly away and refusing to look at her father-in-law!
’Adorable. She thinks I actually let him hear me say that. I only wanted to show off the kissing, my darling Qat.’
Elua watched her go with a swirl of emotions. Amusement was foremost, but even that rapidly faded to uncontrolled longing before turning back to her disciples. With eyes shut, her mentor persona slid smoothly into place. Her hands clapped together to get their attention.
"Well then. Shall we leave my trustworthy father with my business and proceed to your training ground?"
With a wave and a few words of confirmation, the trio departed down another path. They made their way towards the coastline and a carved staircase that awaited. The weight of the wedding gifts protected by her sigils was delegated to her father... mostly to make her mother happy. Yet, moving it all without Qat to help was still one thing less to worry about!
She could focus on the task at hand, instead of the many things waiting for her when she left the venue. Molding her lucky disciples and preparing them for the challenges that lay ahead was a lot more relaxing than tracking down ghosts, saboteurs, conspirators and-
’Actually that all sounds like loads of fun. It was a good thing they gave me nice gifts or I might want to reschedule this.’
The salty breeze grew stronger as they neared the coast, carrying with it the promise of new discoveries and hard-earned progress. Elua’s eyes gleamed with anticipation. It was time to see just how far her students had come - and how much further she could push them.
