Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Rotten Peach Blossoms
At this moment, Yan Sijue calmly called out, "Dad."
Mu Yiliang was slightly taken aback.
So he was Yan Sijue’s father, Old Sir Yan’s second son, Yan Feiyu.
He had made a speech at her and Yan Sijue’s wedding, so Mu Yiliang had some impression of him. He looked in his forties and was well-maintained, without the typical middle-aged spread.
"Come over." Yan Feiyu quietly instructed them, leading them to the center of the banquet, then smiled and said to the crowd, "This is my son Yan Sijue, and his new wife, Mu Yiliang."
Applause erupted. People whispered to each other, their faces showing disdainful smiles. Mu Yiliang didn’t need to think to know they were surely gossiping about her.
Yan Sijue seemed to be mocked because of her again.
Yet the man beside her, still holding her, remained calm, with a light smile on his face, slightly softening his strong and noble aura.
"Everyone, please continue to enjoy the drinks. My father will be here soon." Yan Feiyu gestured to the crowd, who obligingly dispersed.
Yan Feiyu then turned his gaze to Yan Sijue, frowning, "The banquet is very important today. Make sure you perform well."
Yan Sijue’s eyes flickered, "Okay."
"The Old Man will be here soon. Accompany your wife first." Having given his orders, Yan Feiyu turned and left, his face full of smiles, skillfully navigating the various small groups having conversations.
"Is there another purpose for today’s banquet? Why did Father-in-law say it’s important?" Mu Yiliang quietly asked the man beside her.
Yan Sijue chuckled softly, "For him, it is indeed important. He can only rely on this way to overshadow the first-born’s family."
So it was an internal power struggle within the Yan Family.
Mu Yiliang quickly realized it, but she wasn’t happy at all to be involved.
"Do we need to do anything?" she asked cautiously.
"You don’t need to do anything. If someone talks to you, just smile and speak less." The man advised calmly, leading her to a long table, "Have some food. I’ll stay by your side."
Mu Yiliang lowered her head slightly, "Okay."
I must say, when this man is being considerate, he truly does it perfectly.
Mu Yiliang poured herself a glass of wine, sipping it lightly. She suddenly noticed that many young women at the event were casting glances their way.
They were clearly not looking at her, but at the man beside her.
Yan Sijue also held a wine glass but hadn’t taken a sip. His gaze appeared unfocused, his demeanor rather alienated, effectively deterring most eager women.
But ultimately, there was a woman bold enough. Mu Yiliang had only taken two sips when a voluptuous young woman swayed over.
"Mr. Yan, long time no see..." The woman’s eyes were seductive, her hand with bright red nail polish unabashedly grabbing Yan Sijue’s tie, "Why haven’t you contacted me lately?"
Mu Yiliang was dumbstruck. She was the legitimate wife standing right here, yet this woman flirted openly with Yan Sijue?
Yan Sijue calmly pulled his tie from her hand, "Ms. Zhou, I don’t recall ever contacting you."
"Hehe, you’re really heartless." Ms. Zhou chuckled, covering her mouth, "Have you forgotten that night three months ago? I left you my number, but you never called."
