Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Straight Men Lack Aesthetic Sense
Yan Sijue’s frown deepened: "What brands do you like? I’ll have them deliver the latest season’s clothes to our home."
His woman, actually... online shopping? Yan Sijue deeply felt that this woman was born to go against him.
Mu Yiliang gave a dissatisfied hum: "No way! I just like leisurely shopping like this!"
This was one of her few hobbies, and she didn’t want it to be taken away by this man.
"I remember you shouldn’t be short of money." Yan Sijue paused for a moment, although Mu Yiliang’s earnings couldn’t compare to even a fraction of his, it wasn’t to the extent that she’d need to scour for bargains online!
"Making money isn’t easy, of course I need to be frugal." Mu Yiliang said earnestly.
This was all her own son’s hard-earned money... uh, their hard-earned money... of course, she had to be frugal with it.
Yan Sijue narrowed his eyes slightly: "When you were my wife, I never let you lack money."
And after divorcing him, she fussed over just buying a few clothes... what on earth was this woman thinking?
Mu Yiliang gave a hum: "That’s your money, using something that’s not your own doesn’t feel secure."
Uh... her son’s earnings were another matter.
Yan Sijue was momentarily stunned.
He suddenly started to understand why this woman had always resisted him, and perhaps... this was one of the reasons.
Although he had never explicitly said it, this woman clearly saw through him as someone with a strong male chauvinistic streak.
Whether as his wife or lover, once becoming his woman, he naturally expected her to depend on him.
But, this woman clearly did not like this state of affairs, whether it was for independence or a sense of security, she was unwilling to depend on others for her survival.
And in the larger Yan Family environment, women had very little status, whether it was Old Sir Yan’s first wife, or the wives of Yan Feiqin and Yan Feiyu, almost all existed as mere labels. They lived well but had little to no voice in their husbands’ lives, and lacked even the basic respect.
So she resisted, resisted him as a person and also resisted the Yan Family.
Thinking of this, Yan Sijue grasped her hand.
Mu Yiliang gave him a strange look: "What’s up again? Can’t I even shop online?"
He raised an eyebrow: "I’ll help you choose."
Mu Yiliang was so surprised her jaw almost dropped!
"I’ve heard women consult men’s opinions when buying clothes." Yan Sijue said while sliding the mouse across the screen, "You should also ask for my opinion."
Mu Yiliang gave him a horrified look: "Young Master Yan, who did you hear that from? Don’t you know most men have no fashion sense? Very few women actually consult men’s opinions when buying clothes, you know?"
Yan Sijue expressed displeasure: "I’m your man; shouldn’t you dress for me to see?"
"Wrong!" Mu Yiliang defiantly raised her chin, "We women dress up to impress other women! Besides, you’re not even my man now!"
Yan Sijue’s forehead twitched hard!
This woman was truly born to oppose him!
He restrained himself for a moment before saying, "You don’t want to spend my money, I respect that, but if you need anything, you can tell me anytime."
Mu Yiliang paused, slowly turning to look at him.
"Young Master Yan, was that really you who said that?"
"Who else?" Yan Sijue frowned slightly, then held her tight, "If my actions make you uncomfortable, you can tell me, I’ll try to correct it, but I absolutely won’t allow a second time of you secretly leaving!"
Mu Yiliang felt a bit disoriented.
Hearing this from him, even the word "correct" had more of an impact on her than if he had declared his love outright.
She knew how big a concession this was for him, that he was willing to humble himself for her, to even reflect on himself...
She had to admit that, in that instant, her heart was heavily touched.
"...Thank you." She blurted out.
Yan Sijue smiled slightly, biting her earlobe: "Since you’re moved, shouldn’t you show some sign of it?"
Mu Yiliang thought about the consequences of kissing him that day and firmly dismissed any notion of a "sign," turning back to the computer screen: "I already said thank you!"
"So perfunctory?" Yan Sijue grumbled.
"Young Master Yan, don’t forget, right now you’re the one pursuing me, I have no obligation to respond to all your advances." Mu Yiliang smiled brightly, "That’s the most basic principle, you should remember that!"
Yan Sijue snorted softly, finally biting her cheek fiercely before being satisfied.
******
Five more days flew by.
There were only two days left until the deadline given by the other side, yet Yan Sijue still showed no signs of acting.
Mu Yiliang received messages from Xiao Qi and Jason, who seemed to have decided to attempt hacking into the FIS system, but, besides it being very difficult, even if they managed to break in, the system might not contain the relevant information.
Such evidence was more likely to be on Yan Sijue’s personal computer.
But who knows how many laptops this man had used, and who could tell where he kept it? Moreover, Mu Yiliang didn’t want it to come to this. After all, if she really got hold of the evidence and gave it to the kidnappers, wouldn’t that be harming Yan Sijue... she didn’t hate him to that extent yet.
It’s just... she still felt very uneasy inside.
During the day in the office, seeing this man finish processing some documents, Mu Yiliang presented him a cup of coffee.
"You’ve worked hard, have a rest!" She smiled very obsequiously.
Yan Sijue squinted his eyes.
This woman suddenly behaving like this towards him couldn’t mean anything good!
He picked up the coffee, sipping it leisurely but never taking the initiative to speak. In the end, it was Mu Yiliang who couldn’t hold back.
"Um... time’s almost up... in two days, Robert might be in danger..." She blinked.
Yan Sijue raised an eyebrow: "Oh, you’re worried about that big fool?"
Mu Yiliang’s lips moved, almost cursing!
If it weren’t for Robert, would she have spent the past half month here, being teased and bullied by him? This man actually said this with an incredulous tone! How infuriating!
"Rest assured, I’ll bring the man out safe and sound." Yan Sijue gritted his teeth.
She cared so much for another man but never took him seriously... to be honest, Yan Sijue kind of wished that big fool would suffer a bit.
But he didn’t want her to be sad or disappointed, so he agreed.
"After all, the other side isn’t to be underestimated, I need time to prepare." He gently reassured, "And rest assured, even if you delay two days, Robert’s life won’t be in danger."
Yan Sijue knew the other side’s methods well and wasn’t worried about Robert’s life. Moreover, with Robert’s appearance and physique, he’d be exceptionally safe in that man’s hands.
