Chapter 247: Chapter 252: Stay if You Should, Roll if You Must (2)
After a chaotically taken shower, Ling Momo clutched her cellphone and climbed onto the bed with a dejected slouch. She remained silent for a while before quietly typing another line of text and sending it once more.
"Are you very busy? I’m going to sleep now, good night!" She then added a smiling face emoji, but as Ling Momo looked at that smiley, she felt somewhat unsettled inside.
Ling Momo stared blankly at her phone for quite some time before gently turning it off and placing it on the table next to her. She turned off the light, tucked herself in, closed her eyes, and prepared to fall asleep.
But Ling Momo couldn’t fall asleep no matter how hard she tried. She tossed and turned in bed for a long time, knowing she shouldn’t reach for her phone, yet she still couldn’t help but pick it up again and unlock the screen to look.
A heavy emotion lingered inside her, growing stronger and stronger, making her restless as if only by continuously looking at the WeChat messages from Enson on her phone could she find some semblance of peace and calm.
Enson.
Enson.
Ling Momo murmured the name silently in her heart, staring absentmindedly at the phone screen.
On the screen, there were all the WeChat messages that Enson had sent her from the beginning until now. His words were simple, direct, and plain, yet they were so touching.
"Momo, I believe in you, your efforts now will surely lead to future success!"
"There’s no excuse for betrayal."
"If an excuse really needs to be found, it’s that he just doesn’t like you enough."
"Betrayal isn’t something that happens by accident or carelessness, no man accidentally trips and falls into another woman’s bed for a romp!"
"Love has rules, every man knows them, yet he broke them. This could only mean one thing, that he never really liked you that much."
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here for you."
As Ling Momo kept looking over these messages, for some reason, the warm feelings she had when she first read them turned into anxiety.
This anxiety was a kind of bewildered and unmistakable panic, as if something was missing inside her, an emptiness that seemed impossible to fill.
Ling Momo found this feeling especially unbearable, making her irritable and restless. She couldn’t help turning on the lamp beside her, sitting up in bed, and clutching a plush toy, then blankly staring at the pitch-black night sky outside the window.
Why hadn’t he replied to her WeChat message?
It had been over five hours.
Even if he was busy, he should have replied, right?
Could something have happened to him?
Various uncertainties popped into Ling Momo’s mind, piling up and leaving her more and more wide awake.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when suddenly the phone made a ping sound, and Ling Momo immediately lifted her head, reaching out quickly to grab the phone.
She was nervous, her eyes closed, and her fingers trembled for quite a while before she took a deep breath, lowered her head, and saw the incoming WeChat message.
It was from Enson.
The repressed excitement in Ling Momo’s heart surged the moment she saw it; her fingers swiftly opened the WeChat message from Enson, which contained only a few brief words.
"Sorry, I just saw this."
Ling Momo’s heartbeat accelerated as she stared at the message for a long while before finally replying, "It’s okay."
