The Mistress Is Reborn As The Fiancée
Chapter 46: Why She Resisted Him

Chapter 46: Why She Resisted Him

Flynn raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable.

"I went out," Flynn replied, his voice calm and even. He started towards the bedroom, intending to change out of his suit, but Noelle stepped in front of him, blocking his path.

"Out?" she repeated, her eyes narrowed. "Out where?"

"Just out," Flynn said, his voice laced with a hint of weariness. He tried to sidestep her, but she moved with him, maintaining her position.

"You did not go back to work," she said, her voice laced with suspicion and drew close to him, sniffing the air and scrunching her nose before stepping back. "And you smell like booze."

Flynn sighed, his patience wearing thin. "I went to a bar," he said, his voice flat. "Is that a crime?"

He tried to move past her again, but she blocked him once more, her eyes flashing with anger. "I saw Ma-ri," she said, her voice sharp and accusatory. "I know you were with her."

Flynn paused, his gaze meeting hers, his expression unreadable. "Ma-ri followed me," he said, his voice calm and even. "I did not invite her and she was not at the bar."

"And you expect me to believe that?" Noelle scoffed, her voice laced with disbelief. "After everything I warned you about?"

"Believe what you want," Flynn said, his voice devoid of emotion. He reached out, carefully lifting her to the side, and resumed his path towards the bedroom.

"Are you throwing a tantrum because of what I said at the conference?" She asked and he stiffened then looked lazily at her.

"I don’t understand how having a drink constitutes having a tantrum." He asked. "I’m supposed to let you have all the fun?"

"This marriage. Us..." Areum said and gestured between the both of them. "None of it is real."

"Why would a peasant like me think for one second that a Queen like you could want me?" Flynn said bitterly.

He continued to walk towards the bedroom, but before he could reach the door, Noelle darted in front of him, blocking the doorway, her eyes blazing with a mixture of anger and frustration.

"Don’t walk away from me," she said, her voice trembling. "Not again."

Flynn looked down at her, his gaze meeting hers, his expression unreadable. The air crackled with tension, the unspoken emotions hanging heavy between them.

Before either of them could process what was happening, Flynn leaned in, his lips finding hers in a sudden, passionate kiss. The kiss was deep, demanding, a silent expression of the emotions they both tried to suppress.

Noelle’s initial reaction was one of surprise, her body stiffening in protest. But as the kiss deepened, as the warmth of his lips enveloped hers, she found herself responding, her resistance melting away, her body softening against his, her arms going around his neck and pulling closer to him.

The kiss was a whirlwind of emotions, a mixture of anger, frustration, and desire. It was a release, a moment of raw vulnerability, a fleeting glimpse of the connection that she was trying so hard to deny.

When Flynn finally pulled away, his breath coming in ragged gasps, Areum’s eyes were wide with a mixture of shock and confusion. She raised her hand, her palm stinging as she delivered a sharp slap to his cheek.

"That was not a part of your job description," she said, her voice trembling, her eyes filled with a mixture of anger and hurt.

Flynn stared at her, his cheek burning, his expression unreadable. He did not apologize, did not try to explain. He simply turned and walked away, leaving Noelle standing alone in the living room, her hand pressed against her stinging palm, her heart pounding in her chest.

He walked out of the suite, out of the house. He needed air, needed space, needed to clear his head. He walked for what felt like hours, the city lights blurring into a hazy glow, his mind replaying the kiss, the slap, the jealousy and disappointment that swirled within him.

He did not regret the kiss even a little bit. He had wanted to kiss her, had needed to feel her lips against his, to remind himself that she was real, that she was his. But he also knew that he had crossed a line, that he had blurred the boundaries of their arranged marriage.

He knew that Noelle was confused, hurt, angry. He knew that she was fighting her feelings, trying to maintain the facade of their agreement. But he also knew that she was drawn to him, that she could not deny the connection that was growing between them and that probably confused her even more.

He stopped walking, his gaze fixed on the distant skyline. He knew that he had to be patient, to give her time, to let her come to terms with her feelings. He couldn’t force her, could not push her. He had to trust that she would eventually see the truth, that she would eventually realize that their marriage could be more than just a contract.

He decided to hail a taxi and head to his apartment where he had not been in ages. He needed some time away from Areum, her presence was intoxicating and she also needed space from him. Most especially with that kiss that had happened unexpectedly.

He knew that he had a lot to think about, a lot to figure out. It had felt like an easy task at first, being married to the woman he had sought for years, but now that he was living it it was harder than he thought. But he also knew that he would not give her up. He would not surrender. He would fight for Areum, for their love, for their future. He would wait for her, no matter how long it took. He would be there for her, always.

He just hoped that it would not be too long. He hated how she resisted him but he also understood why she did it.
