The Mistress Is Reborn As The Fiancée
Chapter 43: Press Conference

Chapter 43: Press Conference

The sterile hum of the office air conditioning was momentarily disrupted by the soft click of the door opening. Flynn, engrossed in reviewing a stack of client reports, looked up to see Ma-ri standing in the doorway. She was dressed in a sleek, form-fitting dress that accentuated her curves, a stark contrast to the usual business attire worn in the office. Flynn raised an eyebrow, not really surprised by her unexpected visit.

"Ma-ri," he said, his voice laced with a hint of amusement. "What brings you here?"

Ma-ri smiled, a practiced, alluring smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I was just in the area," she said, her voice light and breezy. "And I thought that i would check on my favorite brother-in-law."

She glided into the office, her movements fluid and graceful, and perched on the edge of his desk. She reached for a crystal water carafe and poured herself a glass. "Is it a problem if I check on you?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with a playful challenge.

Flynn smiled politely. "Not at all," he replied, his voice calm and even. "Especially since I have essentially taken your father’s office."

Ma-ri’s smile widened, a hint of something predatory lurking beneath the surface. "Oh, don’t worry about that," she said, her voice dismissive. "He is a big boy, I am sure he will find something else to do. Besides," she leaned closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, "this company probably needs some young blood, don’t you think?"

She leaned back, her eyes scanning the office, taking in the sleek, modern décor. "So," she said, her voice regaining its playful tone, "how about lunch? My treat."

Flynn looked at her, his gaze unwavering. He recognized the subtle undercurrent of her invitation, the thinly veiled attempt to charm him. He knew that Ma-ri’s visit was not merely a friendly gesture; it was a calculated move, a piece in a larger game. It was so predictable that he was a little annoyed that they did not bother to give him something more challenging.

"Thank you for the offer," he said, his voice gentle but firm. "But I have a lot of work to finish by the end of the day. Perhaps another time?"

Ma-ri’s smile faltered, a flicker of disappointment crossing her face. But she quickly regained her composure, her smile returning, albeit slightly strained. "Of course," she said, her voice light and breezy. "Work comes first."

She stood up, her movements graceful and fluid, and walked towards the door. "Well, I won’t keep you then," she said, her voice laced with a hint of playful regret. "It was nice seeing you, Flynn."

"You too, Ma-ri," Flynn replied, his gaze following her as she left the office.

As the door closed behind her, Flynn’s gaze drifted to the window, his mind pondering Ma-ri’s visit. He knew that she was trying to manipulate him, to charm him, to turn him against Areum. He recognized the subtle tactics, the carefully crafted words, the calculated gestures.

He knew that Ma-ri, like her father, was driven by ambition, by a relentless desire for power and control. He knew that she saw him as an obstacle, a threat to her family’s plans. He knew that she would stop at nothing to achieve her goals. And there was the added thrill of taking away her more accomplished cousin’s man.

He sighed, his gaze drifting back to the stack of reports on his desk. He had no time for games, no patience for manipulation. He had a job to do, a promise to keep. He would not be distracted by Ma-ri’s attempts to charm him, nor would he be intimidated by her family’s schemes.

His thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of his phone. He glanced at the screen and saw Tolu’s name displayed. He answered the call, his voice calm and composed

"Tolu," he said, "what’s up?"

"Flynn, you need to check social media," Tolu’s voice crackled through the line, urgent and laced with concern. "There is something... something about Noelle."

"What is it?" Flynn asked, his brow furrowing.

"Just check it," Tolu insisted, his voice tense. "You need to see it for yourself."

Flynn hung up, his senses heightened, a premonition of trouble settling over him. He opened his laptop, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he navigated to the trending social media platforms. His eyes widened in horror as he saw the posts, the articles, the videos.

Someone had leaked the news of Noelle’s marriage. The carefully constructed facade of her single, glamorous life had been shattered, replaced by a storm of speculation and scandal. The comments were vicious, the accusations relentless. Noelle was being branded a liar, a fraud, a disgrace to her fans.

Flynn’s heart pounded in his chest, a surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins. He knew that this leak would cause irreparable damage to Noelle’s career, to her reputation. He knew that she would be devastated, her carefully guarded privacy violated, her carefully constructed world crumbling around her.

Without any hesitation, he jumped out of his chair, his movements swift and decisive. He grabbed his jacket, his phone, his keys, and rushed out of the office, his mind focused on one thing: getting to his wife.

He didn’t have time to explain, to make excuses. He had to reach her, to protect her, to help her navigate this crisis. He knew that she would be facing a barrage of questions, a relentless onslaught of media attention. He had to be there for her, to stand by her side.

As he rushed out of the building, he failed to notice Ma-ri, who was just about to step into her car. She watched him, her eyes narrowed, her expression curious. She had heard him say he was too busy to have lunch with her, but now he was running out of the building like a man possessed.

"Where could he be going to?" she wondered aloud, her voice laced with suspicion.

She decided to follow him. She could not shake the feeling that something was amiss, that Flynn’s sudden departure was connected to Noelle. She couldn’t help but wonder what was going on, what secret they were hiding.

Flynn sped through the city streets, his mind racing, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. He knew that Noelle’s label would be in chaos, that they would be scrambling to control the damage. He knew that she would be under immense pressure, facing a media frenzy.

He arrived at the label’s headquarters, a sleek, modern building, and found it swarming with reporters, photographers, and fans. The atmosphere was charged, the air thick with tension. He pushed his way through the crowd, his eyes searching for Noelle.

He found her in a conference room, facing a sea of reporters, their faces eager, their questions relentless. Noelle stood at the podium, her posture rigid, her expression strained. She was trying to maintain her composure, to project an image of calm and control, but Flynn could see the fear, the vulnerability, the desperation in her eyes.

"Ms. Noelle," a reporter shouted, his voice cutting through the noise. "Is it true that you are secretly married?"

"Ms. Noelle," another reporter pressed, his voice aggressive. "Why did you hide this from your fans? Are you ashamed of your husband?"

"Ms. Noelle," a third reporter asked, his voice laced with accusation. "Are you trying to deceive us?"

Noelle hesitated, her eyes darting around the room, her gaze searching for an escape. She knew that her answer would determine her fate, that it would shape her future.

When she had married Flynn, she had hoped to keep it secret after all they were not supposed to last. A year would have been enough time to solidify her position as responsible, Grandma Jia would have handed over her shares to her.

Somehow, someone had ruined all those plans for her and she was certain it was Ma-Ri, no one had it out for her like her cousin did.

"No," she said, her voice barely audible, but amplified by the microphones. "I am not married."

Flynn’s heart sank. He had arrived just in time to hear her deny their marriage, a desperate attempt to salvage her career. He knew that she was lying, but he also understood why. She was trying to protect herself, to protect her dreams.

He stepped into the conference room, his presence immediately drawing the attention of Areum who looked like she had seen a ghost. His gaze remained fixed on Areum, his expression unwavering.

Ma-ri entered the conference room a few seconds after Flynn, and stood at the back of the room, watching the scene unfold. She was confused, but also intrigued. She wanted to know what was going on, it seemed that someone had leaked her cousin’s marriage certificate. Ma-Ri wanted to hug whoever it was that had done this.

She watched as Flynn turned around and walked out of the conference room and she discretely followed him.
