Chapter 912: Chapter 911: Elder Su Comes to Jinjing

"Don’t be fooled by the fact that the Li Family and the Xiao Family have managed to coexist peacefully for years. The truth is, even though both are part of the three Supreme Clans, they never interact with each other. Doesn’t that speak volumes? You better not cause trouble for me. Stand firm with the Li Family’s camp, got it? Look at your cousin, Li Xinghan. He’s never had any dealings with the Xiao Family."

"Alright," Li Aiqi pouted, ending the topic.

But... are we really certain that Li Xinghan won’t engage with the Xiao Family?

Perhaps once he didn’t, but the future remains uncertain...

——

Lu Mian was curled up in her room, her desk piled high with stacks of documents, discs, and various books.

Everything was tied to one theme.

"Embryo Transplantation"

She had learned about this from her uncle. Though initially shocked, it felt eerily logical. In the past two days, through relentless research, she’d gained a preliminary understanding of the subject.

But along with her understanding came an unsettling question—

As someone who was merely an embryo, finding her biological parents had become even more challenging.

Think about it: what parents would ever harbor emotional attachment to just an embryo?

Perhaps, in their minds, she had long since faded into oblivion.

Or worse, she was merely a laboratory experiment—a union of her "parents’ contributions," which might well have been donated by complete strangers...

Exhausted, Lu Mian rubbed her temples and leaned wearily against the back of her chair. She had never been brave enough to investigate her biological parents; some wounds could be endured once but were unbearable to open a second time.

Before her thoughts could spiral further, her phone vibrated.

Su Luo: [Grandpa’s in Jinjing and insists I invite you out for a meal.]

Having declined countless invitations to meals with Su Qinghe, Lu Mian stared at the text for a moment, then composed a reply with one hand.

[Time, location.]

——

Following the time and location sent by Su Luo, Lu Mian arrived right on time.

She stepped into the restaurant, idly twirling something in her hands with each stride—a rhythmic motion that matched her pace.

When she entered the reserved private room, Su Qinghe, Su Luo, and Su Qinghe’s grandfather were already seated.

"Mianmian! Come over here, quick!" Su Qinghe’s grandfather, leaning heavily on his cane, stood up shakily, scrutinizing Lu Mian from head to toe. "You look thinner since coming to Jinjing!"

Su Luo gave her grandfather a disdainful look. "You’ve got filters over your eyes. Lu Mian’s clearly gotten heavier!"

Lu Mian couldn’t help but chuckle. She settled into her seat and placed the object she’d been twirling onto the table with a sharp *plunk*. The talisman card made of precious metal shimmered with a faint glow.

She smiled lightly. "Su Grandpa, I’ve definitely put on weight."

"Oh, that’s good. It means the Xiao Family is taking decent care of you," the elderly man replied, letting his gaze briefly flicker across the small round talisman card on the table. His expression grew complex.

Lu Mian caught the fleeting moment instantly. Pinching the talisman card between her fingers, she spoke with layered meaning. "Su Grandpa, so this is a Yun Family talisman card."

"You... you’ve figured it out?" Su Qinghe’s tone faltered.

"I have a sworn brother, Yun Sang. He’s from the Yun Family and happened to recognize this talisman card."

Su Qinghe’s gaze subtly shifted; his aged eyes, murky with the passage of time, paired with his world-weary face, made him seem like an elder steeped in countless stories.

But his demeanor quickly regained composure.

"This talisman card was given to me by the Yun Family. Previously, when I suggested you move to Jinjing, I worried that your straightforward nature might land you in trouble without any connections here. So, I passed on the talisman card to you—it might help ward off calamities," Su Qinghe explained sincerely, his words calm and composed.

Lu Mian made an acknowledging sound, a faint smile lingering as she twirled the talisman card between her fingers.

After a pause, she spoke again, her voice soft: "I heard the Yun Family is searching for a girl..."
